Really great video that helped me setup my new network when I ran into something over my head. Thank you. Looking forward to checking out some more now!
Great video! I thought my DNS settings were not working, and I had to set it up on the DHCP level as well, but it turns out the old DNS queries were just cached. Thanks for the hint! :D
That's awesome! I hope you find the series (which is ever-growing, with new videos added every week or two) to be helpful as you learn to use your new MikroTik device! Enjoy.
Hi, I noticed that telemetry/spy/data-collection services on operating systems like windows 11, ChromeOS and android phones send DNS queries directly to upstream name servers, even though the DHCP is configured to use the local pi-hole as DNS. How do I block all DHCP clients (and not the static-ip nodes) from sending DNS queries (port 53) outside the network? Thanks in advance.
i dont know if i am the one not doing it right but after setting up pihole with mikrotik my entire network becomes slow and some sites dont even work at all
How about ipv6 support on the router? More and more advertisements are using ipv6. The Pi-Hole supports ipv6 but what about the MikroTik router ipv6 support (ipv6 DNS etc)?
Hi there after following your channel here i went out and bought a Mikrotik RB 4011 router and a Cap Ac Dual Band. When can you do video setting up CAP AC Dual band wired to a Mikrotik RB4011 dual band router? When connected pc directly to Rb4011 with cable my internet speed is well over 500mbs, the minute i connect wirelessly from my pc to the CAP AC AP, my internet speed drops to below 80mbs. Is this normal with Mikrotik, can you do a video on setting the CAP as a bridge, wired to a Mikrotik Router. The rest of my settings are pretty standard , no fancy firewalls or anything as my setup is for home. i have also setup a pi hole and then the internet speed drops even further is there specific settings to change on the router to do?
Is there a way to specify the source address used in DNS requests ? The reason I am asking is because when the mikrotik is resolving DNS queries on behalf of the LAN side of the network PCs, using the internal DNSs of the company which are located on the other side of an ipsec tunnel ..apparently Mikrotik tries to use the closest to the destination (DNS server) source address so it sends the query "from" the external interface which also happens to be the IPSEc vpn tunnel terminator, and therefor it not part of the flow that is encrypted through the tunnel.. so the DNS query fail..and , either you install a DNS server in the LAN or you set the DNS server configuratino manually .. Hope I explained myself. thank you
I have a RouterBOARD SXTsq 5nD which connects to a cellular Network Tower for internet and from there, it's connected to dlink router. Problem here is when I visit websites, suddenly, ads are opened in new tab of my browser. And i am sure that it's something that has to be changed in mikrotik router because this happens on government / College websites which are ad free. Please inform me what can be done to block this type of ads.

If I wanna turn off "user peer dns", the status is always "searching". Is there something I forgot?

Do you still ip address of your submet in pihole query? Or do you see only the gateway of mikrotik?

Just use ad guard dns It's free and It's blocking ads
Install just Brave and be happy. It blocks ADs smarter.
