  • Hobart City Councillor Louise Elliott says the statue of William Crowther being toppled in Hobart’s Franklin Square symbolises the “many things wrong with today’s society".
“This is a real low point for Tasmania, a really sad day for Hobart in my perspective," she said.
“I was really emotional seeing that on the ground this morning, it’s so symbolic of so many things that are wrong with today’s society.
“It seems there’s a huge double standard in place where only some people’s hurt and offence matters, only some people’s history and culture matters, and only some people’s history and culture is worth saving.”

As far as multicultural influences goes it's everywhere these days. Some good things and others not so much. At the end of the day, we are all human beings. I love my heritage and I think its important to be proud of your heritage no matter what culture you come from. The important thing is to integrate and make a positive contribution to the community.

won reparations, won land in Palestine from England, Balfour declaration
The very fact most of this history is cen sored should make you hear well and truly bells ringing.
The only nation that defeated Germany's army was Russia, sacrificing 27 million Russians and how does the west
pay respect and gratitude is through disdain. Who then has coup d’état the west? is it the same group who coup d’état Russia in 1917? hmm

Yeah, funny, as a Tasmanian, I cant identify anyone there that looks like Aboriginal. If you look up photos of the original aboriginals in Tasmania (very old black and white photos), you will clearly see what these people looked like. Sadly, they have gone.
If you do a google search of the last Tasmanian aboriginals, it will show Truganini (1812-1876) and Fanny Cochrane Smith (1834 -1905).

Andrew, interesting to me that you questioned a Tasmanian councillor in regard to a kookaburra in Scotland and here’s why, kookaburras are not native to Tasmania and in fact are classed as a noxious species and have no protected status. If that kookaburra was in Tasmania, it could be legally destroyed.

Certain groups always cry foul when they are in a rich nation, not wanting to create their own success they use crybully tactics to demand their desires that are never satisfied.
Unfortunately the nation will only ever be free from its burden from crybullies is when that nation goes broke.

If the aboriginals don’t want to respect our culture, I can’t see why we would respect theirs. I know where there is aboriginal caves on Wilson’s promontory. The aboriginals have been looking for these caves for years. I would hate anything to happen to those caves.

Even IF true, tribal peoples all over the world "souveniered" the skulls of others, also various other body parts, some of which were enthusiastically eaten.
See for example Harvard psychology Prof Steve Pinker's: Better Angels of Our Nature, also Rob Mundle's books on Cook's voyages and Jared Diamond's: Guns Germs and Steel and Historian William D Rubinstein's articles..
