  • Here is my ‘We Are Wexford’ poem brought to life by 60 people from throughout County Wexford. Filmed on peoples phones between May and July 2020, this film was commissioned by the Arts Council in May as part of their ‘COVID-19 Crisis Response Award’. Due to the lockdown, people worked remotely and picked a line of the poem and recorded it on their phones and sent it to me. Of the 400 videos received, these were the 60 videos chosen. So, if you have 3 minutes to spare, please sit down and watch this.

My Murphy ancestors are of Wexford. My great grandfather Patrick Murphy was a boatman there until coming to America in the late 1870s, after marrying Mary Lacy. Would love to visit someday.

A magnificent Irish County where where me mate , Noel and I spent one glorious summer, GET THIS, in the summer of 1976. Spent a couple of days in Wexford then travelled over to Ballyhack and Arthurstown. The people there were absolutely wonderful. We were treated like kings. Noel's nan was originally from Arthurstown and his mum went to school there, during the war. A few of the men in Ballyhack, brought us to Cork to see the ALL IRELAND HURLING Semi-Final between Wexford and Galway. We had a grand time, especially since the lads in Purple and Gold won the match. The train ride back was quite the party. I think the drink had something to do with that. LOL. Having family from back home, we knew all the songs. The lads were astounded that Noel and I, 2 lads from Canada, would actually start a few of the tunes. We had to tell them that our families were originally from this area. It's been so long since I was there. I'd love to go back and hopefully one day, visit there with me wife. My wife is from Liverpool, the unofficial capitol of Ireland, LOL. Her roots are Irish as well. Anyway, a grand video and ta for this great video.
