Egypt is invading the airwaves with the first satellite channel to broadcast in English and French in the Middle East.
Based in Cairo, Nile Television transmits 16 hours a day, mostly showing Egyptian music videos and news.
Cairo has long been considered the Hollywood of the Middle East, but now Egypt is branching out.
The ancient country is joining the satellite revolution, spending millions on a service to communicate with Europe and Africa.
Officials in Egypt are declining to put a figure on how much it costs to run but the sophisticated technology indicates that Egypt is spending millions of US dollars to stay on air.

"This is our attempt to say this is Egypt from an objective perspective, without the stereotyping of Western culture and orientalism in general...This is our attempt to say there is another side of Egypt which perhaps you may not have seen, and that's what Nile TV is all about...It's all part of the global game if you will."

Part of the game is for Egypt to draw in more tourist dollars.
With its colourful promos and features Egypt hopes to sell an attractive image to the outside world.
The head of the State Information Service, Dr. Nabil Osman, is a key player behind the scenes.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I think imperialism and colonialism are relics of the past. Why don't we say that we have joined the procession of competition... and in this field of media as in any field you have the sharks and you have the sardines. You have the whales and you have the little fish around the pool. So we have joined the competition. So our Nile TV and this is my personal vision... It's our CNN."

While Nile TV may still be one of the smaller fish in the sea of global communication, the government is dedicated to ensuring that Egypt will be both seen and heard.
