- Film, TV and Radio Star Steve Coogan in his early 20's on Pebble Mill at One with Alan Titchmarsh, demonstrating the impersonation skills which kick-started his career.
This may be the earliest TV interview with the man who went on to bring us a cavalcade of comedy characters over the past 30 years, and who has developed his acting skills to become a leading actor on British Television with his film Philomena and his portrayal of Jimmy Savile in The Reckoning.
Broadcast in March 1990.
Even at this young age you could see his talent in abundance. Easily this countries best ever impressionist back then and still today and all of his comic characters are superb too 😉
Except for that David Bowie one.
Fascinating clip - you can see EXACTLY where the inspiration for the Radio Episode of 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' featuring Alan interviewing the impressionist comes from, two years later - it's uncanny! Thanks for uploading this great little slice of history. 👍
“Do Alan Partridge. That’s why you’re on the show. Do it.”
@@Mishima505 'What's a semiologist?'
@@CottonBud he’s a person
"Do your Frank Spencer"
@@CottonBudI’m not telling you
Amazing to think over thirty year later he’d still be living off of his Alan Partridge character.
Amazing to think Partridge 1st appearance was within 1 year of this.
Funny comment from Titchmarsh at the end there. 'Nice to see you at the top of your career'? He's gone a bit further than Pebble Mill over the years!
“Do your Alan Titchmarsh. That’s why you’re on the show. Do it!”
He's bounced back!
Still one of the goat for impressions and didnt even like doing them much!
The Kenneth Clarke is ruddy bloody glorious
Still love him today.
I’m glad he’s getting chance to do some great acting work now, his eye for detail and subtle body language bring a lot to challenging roles. Stan Laurel and Saville are brilliantly portrayed. His discipline in acting is what underpins Partridge, along with choosing excellent writers and supporting staff. I can’t think of a thing he’s done that I haven’t enjoyed.
Lovely stuff.
Coogan deserves a lot a credit. He's probably the only English comedian who can do a truly convincing Irish accent.
Well him being Irish does help.
He spent a lot of summer in Mayo in the west of Ireland. His Mayo accent is incredible even to Irish people!
You can see how the penny dropped with steve having the person who inspired Alan Partridge interview him
3:04 STOP GETTING BOND WRONG!!!😄😄😄
Brave to do Jimmy Savile and did a very good portrayal.
Imagine how colourless the politicians are today.
Interesting the low baritone really is the most versatile of voices
Aw, lkok at lttle Stevie in his Bros jeans, bless him!
Apologies for the awful spelling in my last comment!
Alan partridge meets Alan partridge.
Literally. This interview ended up being parodied on the radio series of KMKY.
Fabulous!!! ❤😂🎉😂❤😂🎉😂❤😂🎉
Ha ha! Excellent Ken Clarke.
He seems very composed, self assured and is quite brilliant at the impressions. I wonder why he can't do Richard Burton?
I think most impressionists can't do certain voices/accents. You go with the ones your vocal cords and mind can copy. Coogan's range is very broad.
Probably just feels he doesn’t have the voice for it. Very few could do Burton.
I bet he can do him but not to the standard he’d be happy with.
Genius.
Steve looks really Irish
Which is weird as he has no Irish blood in him whatsoever.
Iittle bit of Alan in the final second
It's a shame his career never really took off.
I wonder if he was absorbing Alan's performance?
He had no idea he one day would be playing Jimmy saville
Jimmy Saville played us for years.
He looks a bit like Marc Marquez from MotoGP
ah haaaa!
Alan Titchmarsh / Alan Partridge. Hmmmmmm?
I want that haircut.
He used to be good at impressions.
James Whale 🐋 Gave Him his break
James Blunt.
What a pr'ck - I bet he'll go nowhere.
Mee deee oker
