mywifefarts what's the argument for why it had to be the converter? I have a similar issue with my truck, and have. Been trying to figure it out. Why would they use the old converter?
I want to make it clear that I didn't post this video to bash "Edge" converters. I loved what Andre at Edge built for me. It worked great. Then it started to whine. It was still under warranty and After talking to the builder, I had no doubt he would've fixed the issue. the problem is by the time I was able to work on the car and pull it out, the warranty had expired. at that moment in time I just decided to try another company/brand. The problem being a bad converter was confirmed as soon as the first start of the car with the new converter.
Well on the bright side, it does sound like a supercharger, lol. But I have the same problem as well, not even two months after my transmission was rebuilt. I’m having the shop look at it.
I walked in to my local trans shop and explained logically why this noise had to be the converter and not the trans pump like they kept insisting. Had them rebuild my trans anyway. when I paid and picked up the trans they said the pump looked good but they rebuilt it anyway just in case. so I installed the fresh trans and the same converter and surprise surprise filled it with fluid, started the car and there's the fucking whine like I knew there would be. Drove back up to the shop on the following monday and said listen, still whines. All this guy had to say was "looks like you need a torque converter" WTF!?
mywifefarts that sucks. I was very lucky to have a very reputable transmission shop nearby me to fix my transmission. The owner was so nice, he literally went out to my automotive class and rebuilt my transmission in front of the whole class! Literally everyone I know who is a car enthusiast has had all of their transmission work done at his shop. I wish more shops were like his.
Well I don't regret having it rebuilt. they do good work. It's just the fact that I knew what the problem wase in and why. Those guys obviously just wanted to sell a transmission.
mywifefarts I took my truck to a “reputable” transmission shop, I suppose they did good work and for a busy shop they were very accommodating. But I’ll be damned if I didn’t tell them I thought it was the torque converter... they found a cracked flexplate and replaced that but the transmission still makes noise! I’m sure they removed the transmission from the freshly impacted bolts for the cross member etc. but I’m shaking my head because why stop at the flexplate when I mentioned the TC and it’s right there! And someone tried to loosen or tighten the drain plug in the Trans pan and didn’t use two wrenches because it was loose... if they had drained a quart of fluid or dropped the pan they would have seen the magnetic debris I knew was in there. So now I’m going to a different shop lol! The AOAO where I’m living hates me or I’d do it in my parking space while the rats and roaches watch...
2011 Crown Victoria 4.6 How would one diagnose the converter from the pump I'm not sure which one it is it just started today. It is raining here today and to be honest when I left the stoplight I hit the gas a little hard and the tires spun that's when I started hearing it after that. I have not been on the freeway yet but back roads at 40 miles an hour seems a drive like it always has nice and smooth
Sold the car this past spring. What I was using when I sold it was a 4.30 gear set with a Detroit trutrac. A 9.75" Circle D multi disc with a 3800-4000 stall range
The torque converter. I doubt I had 6000 miles on it when the issue started. I bought a different brand and never looked back. Still running strong today
mine only makes the winding noise in gear and the more I rev the motor the louder it gets. I get nothing in idle. is that the same symptom that you had?
Why wasnt ur car not moving in reverse or drive in this video .. so was it the torque converter that wasnt make ur car not move And mines like that but that not that loud
No that didn't happen to me. A cavitating pump can sound like that too. If your pump is shot, your transmission won't be able to create line pressure to charge its circuits to engage a gear.
The Edge converter in this video was perfect for the first summer I used it. Then it developed a whine. At first it would only happen once the car was driven enough to get the trans warmed up. It gradually got worse as time went on until it sounded like what you hear in this video. At that point it was constant no matter if the car was warmed up or not. Bearing failure I'm sure.
Thanks for posting. This really helped me out. I didn't know if the sound I had was pump or TC.
I'm glad it was helpful. I actually had a transmission shop repeatedly tell me it was my pump even though I argued logically that it couldn't be.

Can you tell us the symptoms of it..like delayed shifting or no shift? And what about reverse.. does it work fine?
What torque converter and gears you running
Sold the car this past spring. What I was using when I sold it was a 4.30 gear set with a Detroit trutrac. A 9.75" Circle D multi disc with a 3800-4000 stall range
hey soo what did you change exactly to fix this issue
The torque converter. I doubt I had 6000 miles on it when the issue started. I bought a different brand and never looked back. Still running strong today
Why check engine didn't pop up
mine only makes the winding noise in gear and the more I rev the motor the louder it gets. I get nothing in idle. is that the same symptom that you had?
Yes that the symptom
So... did it only do it in gear? Or in park/neutral as well? Did the vehicle still drive ok?
only did it in gear still worked great up until I pulled it out. Just didn't want to wait until the bearing completely failed
mywifefarts thank you for the answer!!
Why wasnt ur car not moving in reverse or drive in this video .. so was it the torque converter that wasnt make ur car not move
And mines like that but that not that loud
Had my foot on the brake. The converter performed great as it always did even up to the day i pulled it out
My jeep makes the same noise and now wont move in any shift did that happened toyou?

What kind of car is this?
@009 ford crown vic with a 9.5 inch 3400 stall torque converter at the time.
Did u fixs it
I did. Put a new one in.
Hi besides the noise did the car have sluggish acceleration and lower mpg??
I don't know if its that its not that load

Same as my car damm it
Sounds like a weind supercharger lmao
Would rather it have been..lol
Oh okay was it expensive
Yes The Edge cost me around $600 and only lasted 1 summer. I went a different direction and spent $1200 on an unbreakable Circle D
mywifefarts oh okay im going to buy a torque converter and have it replace
You can probably get a remanufactured oem for way less than what I paid for either of these.
mywifefarts theres one at AutoZone for $130
@@JAMIE_ATKINS 515hp g8 circle D 3200 lasted me 2 months I waited 5 months for the converter hope you have better luck I'm going yank now
Is it true? She farts?
