  • Peyo Yavorov
Peyo Totev Kracholov, more commonly known as Peyo Yavorov, was born on the 13th of January 1878 in Chirpan. He is one of the most prominent poets of the Bulgarian literature. As a representative of the symbolism, melancholy, sadness and sorrow are typical themes present in many of his works. While he is most known for being an author, the poet participated in a revolutionary organisation (VMORO), which was reflected in some of his works (¨Armenians¨ and other). During this period, he also worked as a telegrapher and wrote poetry that is both dark and filled with sadness, but also romantic and symobolist. Soon after, he met a woman that inspired him to write one of his most emblematic poems - ¨Calliope¨. Thanks to it he entered the modernist circle ¨Misal¨ (¨Thought¨). Peyo Yavorov has written a number of collections of poems, thereby making the way for the development of the Bulgarian poetry. In his life there were two principal muses - Mina Todorova and Lora Karavelova. They both inspired some of his most beautiful works, like “Two Lovely Eyes”, “Shadows”, etc. The life of the poet was marked by many sufferings, which influenced his style, making him tragically unique. Undoubtedly, he is one of the best Bulgarian authors and every single one of his creations is worth reading and analysing.
    House Museum
The Peyo Yavorov House Museum in Sofia was founded in 1963 and it used to be the place of residence of the poet and his wife, Lora Karavelova, from 1912 to 1913. Among the exhibits are photographs, original manuscripts, the first editions of his works, the library of the poet, as well as paintings, sculptures and a weapon collection. Many personal belongings of Yavorov, Lora Karavelova and Mina Todorova are also displayed. The authentic look of the drawing room and the cabinet has been preserved - they haven’t changed since 1912. This cultural monument is also part of the National Literature Museum.
