- 🇻🇳 Greeting from Saigon, Vietnam! With rising gas prices, money's tight! So today my buddy @Macoi24 and I decided to go for an economical dish - economy rice! Or as it's know in Vietnam, cơm bình dân. This is one of my favorite things to eat in Vietnam as you just get to pick a ton of dishes you like and stuff your face full of delicious goodness. Sometimes it's tricky to find a good place, but with Max here, there's never a need to fear. I always end up trying new dishes, and today was no exception. I came face to face with a dish I never though I'd enjoy. Hope you enjoy.

So I was talking to one of my patients who is Vietnamese ( I live in Canada) and he was a young 16 year old student eager to learn French but finding it difficult. I encouraged him to continue and explained how knowing a foreign language can really connect people of different cultures and that connection is truly priceless. I talked about you , your RUclips channel and how you have accultured yourself so beautifully in Vietnam. Well you needed no introductions as this young Vietnamese student knew about you, had been following you for years and used you as a role model into motivating himself to learn French ☺️☺️☺️ Way to go Chris! Nothing more rewarding than seeing a RUclipsr having such a positive impact on others ☺️👌
Hey Busybee, the older Vietnamese generation speak French very well. Perharps the younger generation's perception changed.
@@tomn8212 in Canada French is one of our official languages especially in Ottawa the Capital of Canada where most good jobs require French hence why my young student was learning it. Although I am French ( born in Paris France) I can say that French Colonialism did not have a positive impact on Vietnamese people so I don’t see why the younger generation would want to preserve any remnants of it. The elder spoke Vietnamese but 6 decades of French Colonialism resulted in some knowing French. The French are still in many ways omnipresent in modern Vietnam ex Baguette of Bahn Mhi or so popular laughing cow cheese ( La vache qui rit) which was super popular in 1970’s Paris believe it or not!
@@Busybeeee I disagree. Its trendy to demonize colonialism and the west but the French helped Vietnam in many ways. From establishing a written language, to building modern infrastructure to raise the standards of living. Everything from western medicine to education, and to water, sewerage and sanitation management and electricity,
Even today in 2022, when we talk about "developing countries" what are they "developing" to?? They are developing to western standards of living.
I think people grossly under-estimate to positive influence of the west in the world, and they under estimate just how poverty stricken and broken most 3rrd world countries were before western influence.
@@tubester4567 before "western influence" "3rd world countries" were teaching algebra in universities meanwhile Europeans where burying woman alive.

Khổ qua = bitter melon. Khổ - translated into English means “suffering/ hardship “. Khổ quá- too much suffering. But Khổ qua means you wish that your hardship/ suffering is over, the word “qua” means “over”. People normally eat “khổ qua” in Chinese New Year meals to wish their suffering to be over… hope I explain well.
Chinese New Year is for Chinese people and we are Vietnamese. So the correct word is LUNA NEW YEAR which means we are celebrating at the SAME time as others but not the same.
That’s one of my favorite dish I love. I think the foreigners never has a chance or even want to give it a try. Oh man, I hated that you reminded me that incredible dish made me feel I need it right now. Oh god, I’m crazy about its taste.

mắm tôm sống mới nặng mùi, chưng chín lên thì nhạt mùi đi như mắm tép, mắm cáy, mắm rươi, mắm nhum chưng thôi. Cứ chưng lên hết kể cả mắm ruốc, mắm nêm... thì nhạt mùi bớt nhiều, bụng dạ yếu cũng ăn được
Các em đã có hiểu về ẩm thực việt nam rồi đó .về cơ bản trong một bữa ăn Gồm cả Dùng nhiệt. Lên mem .ăn sống Mọi thứ đều có gia vị riêng Mùi hương màu sắc riêng. Anh không tự khen vì cũng đi nhiều Nước. ẨM THỰC việt phong phú nhất về cách chế biến

Ooooh, sugarcane with passion fruit sounds like a great idea. The normal sugarcane juice with kumquat is already delicious but I think the passionfruit would take it to another level.

I definitely need to try the sugarcane passion fruit drink when I come to Saigon. The sweet and sour taste is should similar to the Brazilian sugarcane and lemon drink.
Vietnamese people often do sugarcane and kumquat, which would be similar to your sugarcane and lemon. But the passion fruit combo definitely sounds killer.
A very small plate of food is 10 quid in a London restaurant including a glass of orange juice
So out there is still cheaper than London

"Qua" tiếng Hán Việt 瓜 là Quả. So Khổ Qua 苦瓜 = Quả Đắng, Bitter Gourd
