    There used to be a trolley-bus line that ran up and down Graham Avenue -- brutish-looking green and gray buses with their roof contactors sliding against and drawing electrical power from wires suspended overhead. The line gave way to _gas_ buses in mid-1960, but I still remember being fascinated by and fixated on the hot-blue sparking from the buses' electrical contacts as the buses drove off. I was four years old at the time; you just don't forget some things. Graham Avenue may still show signs of the rails planted there for the old trolleycars (streetcars?) that rode on them before the trolleybuses came along. PS: I miss the rain.

    • @Neville60001
      @Neville60001 Год назад

      The city of New York should get rid of the buses and bring back the streetcars on that street, _if_ it can.

    @ 14:37 secs, on the right, and in front, building with the clock was a bank. I forgot the bank name. Also, building on the left and across the street, with the word Rainbow, that was a Woolworth building and shopping mall. That was my hanging spot with the guys from the block. We'd go there and play video games, nascent as they were but great fun. We also, took lots of pictures there as they had a photo booth. @ 16:57 secs, there is a dental office. That was a pet shop. We shopped there for all of our pet needs. We had an amazing aquarium set up as a result of the now defunct pet shop. @ 17:44 secs, there is a project there across the street from you. In the mid sixties, we were so poor that we use to go there and collect our government cheese in the basement of that building. It was distributed once a month. Crazy times but I wouldn't trade them for the world. @ 22:26 secs, Cricket phone company, use to be Katz's Deli. The best damned Knishes in the world. I mean it. Also, Glory shoes, use to be the best darned bakery for a latino kid growing up in the hood. It was called Valencia bakery. They had the best sugar donuts this side of the river and best warmed bread with butter. They had to kinds of breads: Pan de manteca and pan de agua. Lard bread and water bread respectively. So fucking good. @ 23:58 secs across the street on the west side of the avenue, there is a boarded up store front. That was actually a Chinese Cuban restaurant for about 30 something years. It was an awesome eatery at the time for the locals. Not the cleanest of places by todays standards, but we had some great meals there and times.

    14:27 on the left there is a bus and there is an advertisement for "CHERNOBYL" on it. In America, this show is probably popular. And I have not watched it, although I live in the country where it happened. Our city is about 200 km from that place. Though I was very young then, I remember the day when the explosion occurred at the nuclear power plant. And he remembered me well because early in the morning the police drove through the city’s streets and loudly shouted that the residents would close tightly the windows and doors in the houses, take off their laundry from the balconies and bring them into the house. No one knew why they why they say that. For several days the government kept the accident at the nuclear power station in secret and people did not know what was going on. The radioactive cloud passed over our country and flew further towards Poland and Germany, but it was already safe there. We learned more about danger from European sources than from our own government. My neighbor worked as a fireman at the time, he was called and he went there. Fortunately for him everything went well, he even later got a family and he has healthy children. But some liquidators of the consequences of the accident were not lucky. They all drank red wine there, at least two glasses of red wine a day. It is believed that good red wine helps to remove strontium and fight radiation. Nevertheless, many people from the firefighters-liquidators died. My mom's friend had a husband, he was also a fireman and worked there after the accident. When he came from there, he fell ill and became very thin. He was given a disability and retirement. He lived for 7 years and died later.
    I did not watch this series, you need to choose the time and see. I wonder how they show our country.

      If AK walked the other way on Broadway. The next street was Rutledge St where i lived from 1954 to 1968. All good memories. I remember when they were building the Lindsay projects. We moved when they knocked down the entire block on Rutledge where PS122 was to build a bigger school. Went to Transfiguration Elementary school(Marcy ave and Hooper St.) which has been closed for years because mostly a Jewish community.

    @ 7:26 secs, there was a building there called the 610. That was the address, but also, the name of the club. It also went by another name, Montañez, named after the proprietor. It was in fact, a strip joint with full nudity, back in the 70's. I was a teenager then and I was also, hanging there with some close friends and family. It was great. I use to see lots of Hassids hanging there slipping girls a few dollars to grope a few of the chics. @ 20:40 secs, I use to play at a small club on the weekends, called "La Casita", located on Cook st. It was located between, Graham ave and Manhattan ave, on the north west corner. I developed my chops playing there with a bunch of amazing salsa, Latin Jazz musicians. The proprietor was a guy named Frankie. He played with a very well known group at the time called Frankie Danté and his orchestra. What an amazing place and time that was. This was at the beginning of the 80's.

  • @LoiLoScope
    @LoiLoScope 5 лет назад +1

    Dear K., you seem to somehow have a horror of rain. Some time ago, you posted a video that was supposed to be a "severe thunderstorm". May I tell you that such kinds of rain and thunderstorms are a normality for us here. Something else is what we experienced in the last week. There were the first really warm days, after which it cooled off very strongly in the evening. It then came to thunderstorms with tremendous downpours and very high wind speeds. In some places in Germany there were also tornadoes. In one place the rooftops flew by in rows, and houses were destroyed.
    So a bit of rain does not stir anyone here. However, there were also cases of hail where the individual hailstones were as big as golf balls or tennis balls. That's when it starts to get scary for me.
    New York City is on the same latitude as the Italian metropolis Naples or especially the bay of Paestum. Since you are in the US probably more interested in sun than in rain.
    BTW:
    >>> How about your DJI Osmo? - I think the Osmo camera will only become a real competitor for the GoPro Hero7 Black with the next model. For the currently sold model, there should be at least a fundamentally improved operating system, so a huge update.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  5 лет назад +1

      That’s a scary thunderstorm and weather event! Wow!
      I’ve returned the DJI Osmo Action to the store. The software is very buggy and not polished. I don’t like the colors of the camera, and it has audio syncing issues.

    • @LoiLoScope
      @LoiLoScope 5 лет назад

      @@ActionKid - Ha, wow, that's interesting: Sync issues. - This is a matter of software used to encode and decode the video recording. And probably also a problem of the protocol for storing the additional data in a video. Forget the matter and wait and see how it looks in half a year or even a whole year. Until then, however, there may be a successor to the GoPro Hero7 Black. Then it may happen that thoughts of an Osmo camera vanish in the air.
      Incidentally, protect yourself and do not lock yourself by constantly walking around in New York and consuming shoe soles.
      Sit somewhere where it is especially beautiful. Place your camera on a tripod, search for the right time-lapse speed and let the camera run for a few hours with additional battery. Eat some fortune cookies and rest. I bet that resulting video will find many friends.
      With best regards, M.
