@@pastorbrentreactsI don’t claim to know all things Ren, but I do know he was bitten by a tick about 10 years ago. He suffered with undiagnosed Lyme disease for YEARS! Very very sad! I do know most of his videos are done in ONE TAKE! 🤯That’s major Talent!! Sick Boi would be a great next video! Tells a little of his story. He is an inspirational young man indeed. And growing in popularity by all the reaction channels, and many many fans! I’m so proud and happy for Ren, I believe he’s been making music for a very long time, and happy that he is finally getting the recognition he deserves! Pretty Amazing huh?!

Subbing for more Ren, haven’t even finished the reaction yet 😂🖤 here’s some info 🖤
    🔥🔥🔥
.Welcome to the Renaissance! Ren is my favourite artist of all time. I say artist because he is a multifaceted diamond! From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell.
Ren is 33 from Anglesey, Wales originally but spent most his adult life in Brighton, England. He has been very ill for years, at one point being completely bed ridden. He was misdiagnosed for years, being told he was bipolar, had M.E and more and was prescribed medications that made him worse and ended up in psychosis. It turns out Ren had Lyme disease which has caused havoc on his body. He’s been living in Calgary, Canada all year receiving intense medical treatment for his brain damage and mast cell activation disorder amongst other things that were caused by the Lyme disease.
He started off making beats at 12 and selling CDs then moved on to busking. He was part of a band called Trick The Fox and was signed to Sony but they didn’t renew the contract after his health deteriorated. He then started The Big Push. They went on hiatus the end of last year after 5 years partly due to his move to Canada and also because the other members are also soloists and were moving around too.
I have a list of songs to check out of all styles. Obviously this is no where near everything but gives you places to start. 🖤

My brother, you will find that Ren is all of the things that you have raised...he shares the struggles of his faith journey, he feels lost, he has a good grasp of the human condition, his theology could use some help, but his talent with words, in multiple genres, instrumentally, conceptually is elite and masterful. He deals with many serious issues in vulnerable ways that make him lovable even in his flawed self...I would love to sit down with him and have a very long and serious conversation about where he is mentally, physically and especially spiritually...it would be fascinating and perhaps helpful. The Renagades who post in the comments will guide you on where to go next, but enjoy your journey and I will tag along.

If the RENegades come here, they will let you know what a struggle Ren's life has been and what a wonderful human being Ren is. The majority of Ren's songs convey a strong message that has been helping people talk about their hidden issues and getting to open up and get help.
Other songs are just pure fun on Ren's part.
There are also extraordinary collabs with other artists that you should check, but go slow and "digest" each song with care and I believe you can become a better person, as I like to believe I am after being touched by Ren.
When you feel more confortable around this treasure of an artist, please react to Ren's Eden...

My opinion only, Ren has been tested more then most if you learn a little more about his journey that has lead him to his music. It gives you a understanding and his music has that much more of a impact. He may not hold religion as a guiding light for his vision, But I honestly believe God is working through him on many many levels. He mentions faith in many of his lyrics. Try his Letter to God ! . I think he envisions unity of belief unity of people and unity of economy's. And most everything brings the division and seperation into a light that has been in the dark far to long ! Check out his interviews the one with Knox Hill is very good long ! but informative then his 1 million subscriber thank you.Even further check out unrest when he was still on the verg of suicide and still very sick and in so much pain for so many years.. And with all that said he is a amazing artist and so talented I have difficulty seeing his equal. And he obviously loves making music. And I love listing to his art !!
A Renegade !! lol And Welcome

I believe that God uses all things. He used an evil dictator and the Edomites to fulfill a prophecy in the O.T. God can use whoever he wants for whatever he wants and it’s always for his glory.
I also enjoy when people use music to help them with the things they are going through in life. I did the same with my rap. I stopped shortly after I met my wife but I had a few songs out there. Writing is cathartic and the creative process helps. So I am 10000% excited to be able to see how REN has overcame these trials.

I’m a little late, but welcome to the multitalented genius Ren. This masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg. A powerful icing on the Ren-cake if you will 😅 He is a relatable voice of comfort and hope for everyone dancing in the darkness. He is eloquently, with all the authenticity of someone who is painfully familiar with it, letting us know that it is human to not be perfect and that we are not alone.
I trust that other RENegades will fill you in on his backstory and probably recommend Sick Boi for insight into his frustrations from being misdiagnosed for years. I will just add a suggestion to check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and stunning.
Also if you want to understand the man behind the art (and why we all love him so dearly), check out his 1m subscribers video on defining success. Ren is not just a brilliant artist but a genuinely good human being who wants to inspire positive change in the world.
Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️

After all of that, Ren says that the light and dark live side by side whithin us as part of human nature. He awakens our empathy for all of those struggling with whatever demons they have. Ren sufferred and still suffers for 13 years. He has constant pain and sevetal serious medical conditions from being misdiagnosed and sufferinf from the long term effects of Lyme disease and autoimmunity and MCAS. He is multi talented and will always remember and shine light on the problems of mental illness and chronic health issues.

One aspect I've noticed for myself is that the "Whooo Whooo whoo" parts, the 'opera' part as you named it, was Ren's version of make a joyful noise.
On my first listen when he sang that in the intro I felt jaded and annoyed by it. But by the end of the song, when he rose up and faced down his inner demons and launched into the reprise, I realized that the sounds were his hope and his joy. His unashamed peace and joy with who he has found himself to be. And I felt ashamed of myself for my jaded first impression. He found something in himself that I never have and my own bitterness made me want to reject it.
What I've taken from this is that all of your initial and final thoughts came together to the right conclusion. The bad Ren was mental illness. It was also his inner demon. His inner doubts, inner critic, inner self hated. AND as revealed, that inner voice that we all have IS Satan. By whatever name, whatever form, whatever religion or lack there of. That negative inner voice has been with mankind since the beginning. And maybe mankind needed to give it a form. An identity they could envision so they could recognize and combat it. Satan. Lucifer. Mephistopheles. Morning Star. It's been given many names over ages but it is all the same. Inner darkness.

Ren has psychosis, not DID. The difference is that in DID, the other personas take over, and in REN’s case he hears the voice, but the voice can “only” talk.
I’m convinced I briefly had another persona take form in me. The mind is a bunch of competing layers, not a monolithic person. In my late teens, I was dating a girl in college. She was super toxic… not malicious, but she was dealing a lot of personal trauma herself. She was constantly on the verge of suicide, an my 18yr old self was nowhere near qualified to be her emotional animal.
It didn’t even occur to me that having sex with her so she wouldn’t kill herself was itself a form of rape. She was holding herself hostage. Her big tactic was when I’d say “this specific thing you’re doing bothers me.”, she’d respond back with “So does that mean you want to break up with me?” Which left me in the position of dropping my complaint so I could reassure her I still loved her, she was worthy of love, etc. with the subtext being that if ii didn’t convince her I was all-in, she’d die and it would be my fault.
So one time she did it again, and… it was my voice that said it, but I don’t remember deciding to say it. But I answered her “yes”. And at that point, I was committed. The alternate personality that I had created, so it would have the strength to risk her dying (still not sure if I didn’t believe she’d go through with it, or if I didn’t care if she did), was done. That part of me re-integrated with the rest. She never did kill herself, for whatever that’s worth.
We both were on a study abroad program, so all of our classmates (me and my four roommates, plus her and her six roommates) saw only that she was in pain and it was my fault. For the whole semester, I was stuck in another country, surrounded by enemies. I made dean’s list, though… nothing to do but study.

@@pastorbrentreacts - Thank you. I’m better in some ways. I had to escalate my demonstrations of love, over time. So I guess she was my fiancée by the time other-me ended things with her. I was so vehemently against marriage afterwards, it broke up my next relationship entirely. Took me about a decade to sort out my feelings about that.
And I learned how to act super romantic… so much so that it now feels like lying and manipulation. These days, I’m painfully honest, even when it’s involves over-sharing.
She often drastically misquoted an early feminist thinker who posited that since men have all the political power, any heterosexual act is by definition the man raping the woman. Combining that with her suicide threats, she was effectively forcing me to rape her (and raping me at the same time). The guilt and shame of that is still with me, because regardless of her making me do it, I’m still the bad guy in this story. They had to invent a whole new sexual orientation for people like me: asexuals… I’m not attracted to anybody.
So I’ve put a lot of time and energy into understanding how I’ve been damaged by what she did. There’s no fixing it, but I’m more or less at peace with this new equilibrium. Which is a lot of why REN’s song resonates with me so much. He had undiagnosed (or MISdiagnosed) Lyme disease for years. During that time, he developed psychosis. When he says “I have stood in the flames that cremated my brain” he means it… the infection caused neurological changes that can never be undone. He talks about learning new coping mechanisms, not a cure. And he uses his talents to advocate for mental health awareness.
I’m a somewhat active member of the asexual community, I advocate for how feminism (real feminism, not the man-hating garbage I was taught in the 90s) benefits men, as well as for male sexual assault victims (I support female victims as well, but there are plenty of strong women fighting that cause, so I mostly just stay out of their way). I don’t have the reach or the talent Ren does, but I try to do what I can with what I’ve got.

If we were truly our own worse critics we'd be immune to the criticism from others as their words would never be able to cut our self toughened skin.

    • @pastorbrentreacts
      @pastorbrentreacts  6 месяцев назад

      Hey there Tommy,
Thank you for your thoughts on this. Here's my take on it - and you are 1000000% free to agree to disagree. This is a safe place where you can voice your thoughts.
I don't think we wouldn't be immune to it. That implies that the only one who could hurt you is yourself. Words do have power. They have the power to bless people and they have the power to curse people. Being our own worst enemy at times doesn't mean we don't get hurt by others. Being our own worst enemy at times is buying into the harmful things that other people sometimes say. Other times, it could be giving into our vices. Other times it could be regretting a decision we've made.
Basically, I don't think it's that black and white. While people have the ability to choose to ignore people who hate on them... that doesn't mean it doesn't affect them. We've all had someone get under our skin at some point - myself included. People can be incredibly mean... and I think we've all been on the receiving end of it at some point in our lives. I know for me, high school was that time.
However... if we make a blanket statement that we would be immune... it's implying a few things.. either it's the victims fault for letting those words affect them, they're suppressing their feelings by refusing to work through it, or they're not human. There's no one immune to things.. but we have all experienced our own selves believing the words that others say at some point in our lives... whether it be a parent, a friend, or someone else. I don't believe that victim shaming is right. I do believe that feelings are as powerful as hormones.. because think about what Serotonin is, or what Endorphins are... or pheromones... they have a lot of power in someone's life. I don't believe that anybody here is bionic (even though that would be sooooo cool) so that means they must be human.. The only other thing they could really do is suppress their feelings...which I also don't think is good... leading back to that very thing... we are our own worst enemies... when we don't talk about what happened. We don't give ourselves the opportunity to cope or process whatever happened. We buy into the lies that someone else says about us.
There's a time in everyone's life where this applies... mine as well. This is what I'm talking about when I say we are our own worst enemy. It's not just a simple phrase.. there's a lot of depth to it..
Also, you're right... our self hardened skin should be able to withstand the blows... but sometimes they can't. Darts get through and it's painful.. it's not your fault..
Everyone is going to handle things differently. Everyone is on their journey through life.
And I get the feeling based on how you worded your comment that there's stories. And those stories hold weight because they follow you, and they influence decisions to trust or to walk away. I don't have to know the stories to know how powerful they are - I see them everyday. I have the same kind of stories, the ones that made or broke me.
I do know one thing though.. you are valued and you are loved. And I appreciate you for being who you are and sharing your thoughts. I'd love to hear your thoughts back. :) Stay awesome Tommy!

@@pastorbrentreacts I do agree with some of what you've said, but i like to pick up a few things.
The original statement was about being "Your own Worse Critic" that seems to have evolved into "Your own Worse Enemy", these are different situations.
I won't go into the "Enemy" side as that's not what i was saying but I do agree that, unless we have a Nemesis, then we can be our own worse enemy but i caveat that by saying that we can be our own best ally also.
I do believe that words have no power other that what you/we give them, i shall use an example later on.
This is about "Us" saying the worse about "Us" to "Us" as individuals.
If we are our are own worse critic, there is nothing, no words, that others can use that we haven't already said to ourselves. I don't think that this is the case.
We often live within our own bubbles, interacting and talking to certain types of people in certain ways, This leads to familiarity of thought and process. It's this familiarity that means we can only expose ourselves to ourselves within our own experience (i hope that makes some sense :)
That's why people outside our bubble can expose to Us things that our own bubble hide or protect Us from. And it's because of this that we don't fully see ourselves as we are, but we see ourselves as defined within that comfortable bubble.
It's like someone using the saying "I'm not a racist BUT...."
That is their own bubbles experience that is making them think that what they are about to say isn't Racist. However everyone outside that bubble will have a different view.
I will concede that within our own bubbles we could be our own worse critic, but soon as we encounter someone outside our comfortable place, i believe they can be much harsher than we'd ever be to ourselves as they can see our whole selves not the part reflected back by our bubble.
As for the power of words,
If you hear a word that you don't know the meaning of, the meaning of that word will pass you by and you can't be effected by it's intent, it has no power.
If you are in a foreign country and someone says something to you that you don't understand, what power has the word/s got, would you know if it's a blessing or a curse? You may infer something from how it was delivered but that doesn't give you the meaning of the words.
It's only after you learn the meaning of the word/s that it is given power.
It's knowledge that is the power not the word itself. Once i learnt this i became a much more serene person and certainly open up to introspection.
It's when i changed my stance on religions. I used to be staunch Atheist, and the bubble i lived in helped to confirm that. Once i realized that our bubbles define how we see ourselves i started to press outside my bubble. I taught myself Hebrew so i could read the Bible as it was written, i studied the apocrypha to make sure that i know about the whole story, i've read the KJB to see what Translation does the the meaning and intent of words. I've read the Torah to see if there are differences, I'm currently learning to read Arabic so i can read the Qur'an as it was written.
I studied the ancient Greek and Roman Gods, i also intend to do the same for other current major religions when the time allows.
This study outside my Atheist bubble lead to change my position, I now consider myself a Deist/Agnostic Humanist, I am now fully willing and prepared to be proven wrong in my stance and i just wait evidence that will do that. Until then i will use what i have learnt to try and make myself more accepting of others, especially those that are outside my growing bubble.....For example, i really try not to judge people anymore that's an example of Jesus' teaching that I'm am fully behind, but there are things that i just cannot forgive.
Personally, I am Autistic with an IQ beyond 150, i really don't process things the way that 99% of people do, I am logical, dispassionate and struggle with empathy, I can empathize but it needs to be in direct correlation with my own experience, i can't "Imagine" what others are feeling/thinking if I've no frame of reference.
I had a normal upbringing, there are no skeletons in my past, no trauma, quite an uninteresting life compared to so many, but i couldn't be happier than i currently am....with the exception of having no bills to pay that is :)

He's just using religious archetypes as a device to explain the multiple aspects and effects of the "negative energy" we all carry within us - self-doubt, being one of them.
Ren isn't "religious" per se - he briefly toyed with a variety of spiritual explanations and solutions for his sickness and ultimate psychosis - so I figure that's probably the inspiration for his use of religious metaphors.
Personally, I see the song as a rejection of the demands of religious dogma. He found healing in final acceptance of the imperfect nature of our being. Trying to attain perfection, and continually beating ourselves up over our inevitable failure can lead us to a very unhealthy state of mind. When I rejected the impossible demands of Christianity, I became kinder to myself, and far less judgmental of others.
After his spoken epilogue, I'm pretty sure that you understood the truth of what he was saying, and your confused "what could it all mean?" summary belied that you were struggling to acknowledge the veracity of his message. Think on it, Pastor.

      Thanks for your response, Brent(?).
"Hi Ren" is clearly a very weighty piece of work, and your reaction was understandably brief - it's a lot to get your head round. I'd be really interested to hear from you a more considered analysis, or general thoughts on the content of the song, (once you've had a bit more time to absorb it!) It's very much in your field of interest, being fundamentally about "good/evil", or as I would phrase it, positive/negative energy. It wouldn't be the first time a reactor has revisited, to talk more about one of Rens' songs - instant reactions can sometimes be difficult.@@pastorbrentreacts

    • @pastorbrentreacts
      @pastorbrentreacts  6 месяцев назад

Thanks for your recommendation :D Eventually, I'll go back and look at it. There's a lot to unpack with Ren - so I'm finding out. And you guys have been awesome with filling in gaps that I don't currently know. It hurts my heart to know that Ren is struggling the way he is.
I think it's healthy to have different opinions especially when it comes to music. Are there certain things that mean specific things? Sure. I know there's a lot of things I don't know and I don't claim to know them all. There's ALWAYS more beneath the surface. This was the very first song I had ever heard from him. Naturally, you're right, I'm gonna miss a lot. But going with what I had to go on and what I knew going into the song, that's what I based my reaction on. If I heard something, I would talk about it. Do I think there's more to his music than just what I said? Absolutely!
It's no different than if a student goes to a medical school to become a doctor.. they don't know the things a seasoned doctor is gonna know. Renegades have been with Ren for a while, there's gonna be things you guys know that I don't. So, I think revisiting will be something I end up doing after getting to know Ren through his music.
      I appreciate you! :D

I really have an issue with giving "the evil" the name Samuel L Jackson.
I understand from where that is coming from BUT Samuel L Jackson IS NOT "the characters he is playing as an actor" so to make him by his - real name - "the persona of evil" is not fair at all...please choose instead the "played character name/role name" he played which gave you that sentiment.
To be real it is actually disrespectful in behalf of his outstanding talent as an actor and for his craft. Because it is way more difficult to play an evil character "believable" than a good character.
That is no "critic" or "hate" but just a "request to think about it"
Besides that "the good" can not exist or "shine" without "the evil" and vice versa anyway = the one needs the other for its existence.... just to express it philosophical.....in life it´s all about "duality" or as the asiatic approach says "it´s all about the balance between the "Ying and the Yang". ..and as Ren said that ( - meant is duality -) seperates us human beings from demons, angels and gods because those embodiments do not have to face "duality" they are either just solely good or just solely evil as their given characteristics
