What settings did you use? I’m having issues with mine cutting 1/4. I’m new to this too.

I’ve used a ton of different settings, speed 400/power 100 has worked good, but faster with less power and multiple passes has given me good results too. You should have no issues with 1/4” ply. Might want to confirm your focus is set correct too.

Can it engrave to a specific depth?

You can adjust the speed and power of the beam. So you can adjust those to get the depth you want, from just toasting the surface, to cutting all the way through.
