Thanks Tim. I have tried to replicate these steps using Tableau Cloud, but I have been unable to activate the Google Analytics 4 option as a connector. Do you have a post that details how to set this up using Tableau Cloud?
Hi Tim, Thank you very much for this video. I'm trying to publish the ds of the GA4 to Tableau Server the "Publish" button is greyed out. I edited the Authentication section and it made no difference. Any ideas? Thx.
Hi Tim, Thank you very much for the great video. We used our Tableau dashboards on Tableau Server. To update the extracts, it is necessary to embed passwords in the workbooks. For the Google Analytics 4 data source, unfortunately I can't embed a password in the new connector to trigger an update later on Tableau Server. Do you have an idea / solution? Thank you very much / Many greetings Steffen
I appreciate the build chart section, but how are we building a dashboard with multiple filters on this connector? I'm having to pulling in one dimension at a time for charts therefore none of my charts have a unifier?
Hi Tim, this is a great video tutorial! Thank you. Do you happen to know if the GA4 connection limits us to 8 or 9 dimensions? or can we pull in as many as we want?
Good question. You can always check the connector details on the exchange exchange.tableau.com/products/867 it’s as 23.3 onwards so you’ll Need to upgrade to keep using google analytics
I connected the GA4 with Tableau, however, the data is mismatched, some metrics reporting zero, while on GA4, there is real number; And some column even failed to report on Tableau while it does exist on the GA4 platform.
Hello! Does anyone have an issue where after connecting the data, it only displays three months of data? Even though I selected the date range to start a year back, the earliest the visitor data starts to display is February. Any help would be appreciated!
The biggest issue between the UA and GA4 connector is that you can't change the date dimension directly in the data source tab which is incredibly frustrating. Date is also not an automatic dimension, and its allocated as a whole number instead of a time specific dimension when first importing the data source. If you need to edit the connection for different dates I find that it doesn't allow this and breaks if you try to update static extract dates in an existing data source. Also, I have come across a bug where if you try to re-name the data source for easier navigation it also breaks... Essentially trying to "save as" the report and update dates for the next month is literally impossible unless you choose the non-static data options. Good luck if you have calculated fields for YoY and MoM data... because this connector is the most delicate connector I have ever used. I hate to say this but going back to excel sheets will likely save my sanity over using this connector. My suggestion is if your trying to make your dashboard dynamic find a way to convince your clients to use Google BigQuery or the way Tim does it with FiveTran/Snowflake, that is your best bet.
If I were to pull the data to the database and then from there work with Tableau without using any third party like fivetran. How will I achieve it ? What will be the best way
You’d need to write your own script to pull the data from the app and load it to the database. If you don’t use a third party you’ll have to build and test your own pipeline.
You’ll need to at least share the code. Errors can happen for lots of reasons. Start by checking your credentials then check you have access to the api and then from there test the query again. Usually if it all is correct it just works
Hi, I can't understand why (maybe because I have a free trial) when I try to connect GA4 I always get this error and it's happening with all my Google accounts. Unable to complete action Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database. Error Code: 276CCE7F There is something wrong with connector: Internal Error - An unexpected error occurred and the operation could not be completed. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I was getting nervous ….
Awesome, Tim! Especially your valuable comment regarding Fivetran -> Snowlfake --> Tableau
I had added connector file in tableau repository in connector folder but it is not showing inside tableau software. What to do?

It does limit the total number of each yes.
very nice tutorial , it would be great if you load a tutorial for configuring for tableau server , thanks!
Will do once I have more time and access to a serverz

Strange should work with the trial until trial expires. Have you tried on another machine or via web edit?
I am facing the same issue, How to solve this problem?
