I know it won't be your most popular video, but I really like this type of video from your channel! Reminds me of the 'old' days in discord on VC Chat.
Also, Amtrak employees are awesome, some of the best people I've met while traveling. I love the redcaps especially, could always count on them to get my grandma onto the train.
If you've made it this far, I think that frustration with self employment always being on the back of your mind is probably the worst part about it. I don't even make money here and what's next is always on my mind. It also sucks not having team or a network of people who will just work with me on things like this. I never had that kind of friend group and wish I knew people who could edit because God knows I love audio, video, and putting it to music but I hate editing.
Keep up the good work Alan, you have one of the best communities on RUclips. We want you to succeed because most of us share your vision of a better world.
I agree!
Not all Amtrak employees are great in my experience
@@Cal90208 True, it happens often. But it happens everywhere, from mc donalds to airlines. Unfortunately, it is not a job for everyone to travel, to be away from home, to work heavy hours. It can happen that some employees are Rude. But I don't think it depends on amtrak
@@Cal90208 well of course, but I've had mostly good experiences... Like I said
I took the California Zephyr from Denver to Glenwood Springs back in February. One of the most beautiful, breathtaking journeys I’ve ever been on. When leaving Denver, we literally climbed above the clouds into the Rockies. It was almost like being on a plane. The train crew could not have been nicer, either. It reminded me of how important long distance trains are. Looking forward to getting onto more of them.
I was planning on going to Flagstaff, AZ on the Southwest Chief but work got in the way
Question: is it helpful when the audience provides topic suggestions?
I'm hyped for more music mixes!
All transportation is subsidized. Roads are funded by taxes. Air traffic control is paid by taxes, so is tsa, and airports are subsidized. Railroads if anything are underfunded.
class 1s need incentives to upgrade track and do local freight. We can't pay for people's yachts, but we can pay indirectly via carrot on a stick. Amtrak funding is needed more.
I absolutely love the California Zephyr. I take it to Glenwood springs all the time from Chicago
Really appreciate these down-to-earth videos every once in a while. Personally, I think a lot of RUclipsrs could benefit from this format since it helps them remind their viewers that content creators are human and may have a lot going on at times. It's healthy to be able to be honest every once in a while, because otherwise you'll end up in a situation where fans expect too much or react negatively if you suddenly stop posting / start diversifying out of the blue. Genuine communication is key, not just to keep fans updated but to keep their expectations at that manageable level. So, all in all: nice to see you getting some air and being down to just talk with your viewers.
Edit: Also love that you try not to be derivative. A video can be well made, but if it's been done fifty times over then what's the point? The energy is better spent on something new at that point, especially if it's less about earning a buck and more about creating interesting content for viewers to enjoy.
I hope to get on this train soon enough
I took the empire builder from Portland to Chicago (then the wolverine home) in summer of 2021 (before the delta wave); it was super awesome and on time, even with the 52 hour journey. Definitely recommend the roomette.
What do you think about the mixed use development being built to replace the parking lot of the metro park station?
Luckily you were inside, smoke sucks. Schools close down when there’s smoke in town.
I live down valley of the Moffat Tunnel east portal in the very first little town you come to! My house is right next to the tracks, get to see the Zephyr every day. It's a crazy busy route with both the Amtrack and the cargo/coal trains, but they do a dang good job keeping to a close schedule for the Amtrack all things considered. My town has gone through several efforts to try and get the train to stop: there's still a legal station with its own siding and everything where they blow their whistle every time they roll through. We'd have to bring the platform up to code and guarantee a high percentage of ticket sales, so we just don't have the money to do it. Know of any grants available for that kind of initiative?
What was your favorite section of the route?
That's one topic I'm not entirely well versed on, but I'm sure that Colorado might have a state program to apply too for more funds.
I adore capital corridor, I use it more than any public transit system in my area.
This was a nice, chill video. Appreciate hearing your thoughts on RUclips and such!
A euro trip sounds wonderful
Please don't over stress yourself with these things there isn't a single video of yours I haven't enjoyed.
Beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️
have you ever read capitalist realism by Mark fisher?
You should go to japan
Britain's rail network is nice.
When it's not under turmoil like it is rn.
Just go up or down the ECML by the time you pass darlington the views get good with the line running near the coast.

Neat video man, I agree with you on the daily life of a RUclipsr, I get the same struggles sometimes..
Keep up the good work
good to see you coming through my home state. cheers!
Writing this while on the Dallas DART Light Rail. Awesome video, so chill yet packed. Keep it up man, once I get this paycheck im definitely picking up one of your shirts.
You're always welcome to visit us nerds in the UK Alan. Also, as a freelancer commercial photographer, I totally get your thoughts on the freelance life and the pressure to create and be original. I am getting into doing personal projects along side commissioned work, and your comment about comparing yourself to ALL your past work really struck a chord with me. When you think about it, it's a bit ridiculous to expect that every single thing you do will be better than the last thing you did. That's too much pressure to put on yourself. In your situation, I appreciate and respect your desire to have an original take on things and not just be a copycat. I know exactly the channels you're referring to and it's so boring. My only thought on that for you is that the way your mind works, the things you notice, your opinions and your style of making videos are what keeps me coming back. So even if you tackle the exact same subject as another video, it's still going to be different and unique, as long as you just be yourself.
10:55 Beautiful Footage of the Hogbacks of Western Colorado
I took the train out west years ago and ultimately moved out there as a result (I've subsequently moved back). Amtrak is a great way to see the West.
Your fireside chats are some of your best content, and that's saying something.
Thank you for the praise; I'm always here to help on my route. Thanks for Sharing Alan, I'll see ya on the rails
On the Glassboro Camden Line…you and me both Alan! I live between Glassboro and Vineland and have been rooting for it forever. Please give me some hope that the thing will be built…
It'll get built, we're going to make it happen.
I will be graduating from Rowan in December and I am like "even if its not full service, just do a train for the University's centennial next year because history" kind of deal.
Speaking of Patco, how long has the Broadway/Walter Rand station been closed because Google/maps doesn't know. I remember seeing it fenced up when I started using NJT last year (I relied on my parents to get me back home before that). That is a huge shame as its a Transportation Center
Also the main reason for my parents doing that was to prepare me for Europe, where I studied abroad in Madrid. I never used the city (blue) buses in Madrid, but I did use the green (regional) buses to get from Pinto to Parque Warner because they abandoned the dinky they had because it only got 100 riders a day on average. Like excluding the fact its bisected by a rail line, it could be just about any regional park in the US-even its brief sister park of Great Adventure in Jackson which is even worse off than Glassboro (like the 412 is like twice hourly M-F which is actually decent, which I don't think a Patco or River Line Branch (it would make sense to turn back in Pennsauken or do express from Glassboro to Trenton) could really improve upon, maybe every 20 so Walter Rand and beyond would be 10-15mins
Walter Rand is still open, but the one outside entrance is close because its slated to be redone soon. The other entrance is inside of the one main building.
Yeah, things started going quicker after my Birthday (February 23), then again I was in Madrid and their theme parks reopened that Friday (although my group went to Escorial to I was playing phone tag with the Spainards till the end when I met Discovery Line at Parque de Atracciones for their Magic Festival. Things then kind of slowed a bit after July 4 so it feels like the days are long yet overall things are flying-its odd
Hey I love the train club lay out I am a train buff to My father worked for the New York New Haven and Hartford Rilroad He got me into Lionel Train O Scale back when I was like 5 years old Only one 3/4 plywood sheet I not have 11 done It is a work in progress I have 2 3/4 plywood sheet ready I have sent to michigan for track
