I hav just watched the first ever episode of rainbow.Bungle scared the living day lights out of me am 46 year old man goodness knows what niigtmares children must of had by watching the early episodes of rainbow..i am so pleased that Jeffrey came to the rescue and made rainbow of what it is today. R.I.P. Geoffrey.
It's really great to see this clip of one of British TVs first "fly on the wall" documentary series. Apparently every day the film crew would turn up and film wherever they were doing. So gritty and realistic.
So my friends gave me this nickname : Zippy. At first, I didn't know WHY, then, one day, my mom heard the nickname and she was like "yeah Zippy fits her, to be honest"... Days later, they said "watch Rainbow and you will know" FEELS GREAT :')
@@pamelabibby8642 I can remember one where Geoffrey had a walking stick. I can remember him being really grumpy in it and hobbling around with the stick... in fact, it's called Social Behaviour and I've found it: ruclips.net/video/cTv_RwkT_Ds/видео.html
in the first two series of rainbow...1972 and 1973... the had two puppets called ....sunshine and mooney... mooney looked like a little purple george and sunshine looked like a little version of zippy...they should release all the rainbow episodes onto dvd...... classic national gems every episode....why they have not so far....???..... its a cult show for many adults..... happy childhood memories...... also a british iconic show.
This was back when John Leeson (K-9) played Bungle and Peter Hawkins (Daleks and Captain Pugwash) voiced Zippy before being replaced by Roy Skelton (also Daleks) in 1973. This was also back when Sunshine and Mooney were part of the show. They got eclipsed by Zippy and were killed by Chuck Cunningham Syndrome, fading into obscurity and allowing Zippy to take over their position as the stars of the show.
I think that zippy sounds like spud from Bob the builder and I think it's the same person who plays spud and he plays spud so it's not just you who thinks zippy sounds like spud I think zippy really sounds like spud
I was certain I could remember a time without George. I remember him turning up and thinking "who's that". Which nicely dates my first memory as late 1972
Where were George and Geoffrey that day? Bungle probably killed them or eaten them, he could of eaten Rod, Jane and Freddy and no one would know about it. At 0:45 Bungle's face and eyes are crisscrossed, scary and staring right at you I can see the suit actor's mouth moving. 2:41 those are claws of a werewolf. That is not a friendly Bungle that is a dangerous animal.
I met Malcolm Lord (I wonder if it was him you met?) It was 2014 at a pub opposite the theatre in Lincoln. It was a bit of a random coincidence as I'd posted a load of these videos up! Though of course he was the latter era Bungle (and worked the George puppet a bit before). He was working with Bobby Ball who was in the pub as well. It was a jam night and I played guitar in the band while he was singing. So, a pretty memorable night :D
***** Hi there, very sorry for the slow reply, I didn't get notified of your follow-up- I'm guessing RUclips was going through its notorious 'change'! Thanks for the reply, and it would be absolutely brilliant if you could upload them. This one's low quality and a download that someone else uploaded and deleted. As for the others you mentioned, never seen them. Well done on finding the DVD, have looked everywhere- including real shops :D! Great channel by the way, and of course I've subbed :)
Thank for Roy Skeleton that it was changed & definitely improved. Sounds like they got the water idea from Bruce Lee, bit of a horrible song about the cat in the well ! 🌈 😆
@@TheKingOfPoop100 Peter Hawkins (the original voice) didn't pass away until recently, he left along with the main presenter and was well known as the voice of Daleks plus cartoons like Jimbo and Penny Crayon
That's what I want to know. I can't really see the resemblance myself (other than that they both have blue eyes), but everyone else seems to think it is. Telltale apparently had 6 members overall, so, as Fraser is obviously not the drummer, the tambourine player, or the woman... that only leaves the guitarist (who people are saying is Hugh Portnow), this guy in the straw-hat, or that one last member of the band that we never see in any of these uploaded clips. It's been driving me up the wall for years. lol.
Lúthien Tinúviel I totally agree with your comment, and it's a little frustrating not being able to find a clip of Hugh Fraser from the '70s to compare, but I'm also sure he's not on this one! Poirot started in 1989, plus he's in an episode of Tales Of The Unexpected from 1983 on here (with a dodgy moustache). He can't have changed that drastically from looking like the fisherman chap to that in such a short time without a hefty nose-job etc. :D
IThinkYouLookLarvely On reflection I'm inclined to agree with you both that it isn't Hugh (sadly). I have the Tales episode on DVD, and even with the moustache he's still recognisable. I'd love to find a publicity shot of Telltale!
shaitarn Thanks for your reply- I had to look a few times to check if it could be him! There's a chance we're in luck. There's a poster who's commented below with a very good knowledge of vintage kids TV who has a DVD with a few more episodes from this era. I missed their reply a months ago when YT didn't inform me of it, but have replied now and hopefully a few will be uploaded if ok with the poster. (Surely with Mr F in at least one) :)
IThinkYouLookLarvely Unless he's spent all his Poirot money on having the episodes he appeared in destroyed... But please let me know if he does upload them - I'd love to see them!
Interesting stuff, I guess you're from the UK? Can't find any others with this Bungle, though seen a DVD still from what I guess is the 2nd episode Farm Animals- looks dodgy, Bungle appears to be riding the presenter! Can only guess there's more from this series about on DVD or even video, or just unreleased. It's just my friends and myself think this Bungle is hilarious, the actor and the look (the latter of which changed for the 2nd series). John Leeson should get an award!
I'd have pooped my pants if I'd seen the original Bungle when I was little!
I know! It's the stuff of nightmares!

Bungle has been on Geoffreys marching powder for sure
I kept telling people Jeffrey wasn't the first presenter but no one believed me.
No you are correct yes I can remember this guy .but he was only here a short time
Despite Bungle looking different, I think when they sing ding dong bell is just the funniest thing! I love Zippy
Hugh Fraser is the Telltale singer on the left here, doing the "I'm glad..." bits. Yes that's right, Captain Hastings mon amie.

3 people did zippys voice. The second one was the best. He did it from 70s to early 90s I think.

damn you can hear K-9's voice in Bungle ! amazing
The sponge excuse always works well with the bar of soap scenario, this Bungle must love the showers by the look of shock in his eyes... 😂
This bungle is almost Alan Bennett-esque.
Has bungle had a stroke?

No, he's been painting his twanger.
wow..that first bungle was scary.... looks like he has just been glue-sniffing..... he looks high.
Never watched rainbow🌈 that far back, ever, so this looks seriously strange, don't you think, mind the theme music is the same, interesting.

Also this Zippy sounds a bit like Ann Widacombe.
