Miss the old Joo.. He made table tennis really entertaining.
Koji Matsushita too
Back in the day where joo never did any chops away from the table with his forehand. It made him so much better
+Gustav Mårdby Idk. He lost a lot of points when he was back from the table had had to do a slow topspin loop. Now he gets those back with a heavy underspin, and is more consistent about it. He still attacks all the same balls that he attacked here, and plays very aggressively as a defensive player, but I think adding the forehand chop gave him another dimension. You still see him throw in some slow forehand loops to change it up from time to time, but more often than not waits until he has a higher percentage attack to break out that forehand attack
Gustav Mårdby
Look at 8:27.
The best TT period ! Missing those days
In 2003, Joo Se-hyuk's form was beautiful
Joo was fast and could counterpunch effectively in those days. Ma Lin was very strong against defenders but Joo was just very good in this match.
The best defense in the world .We have ever seen 😊😊😊
That same year, Jan Ove Waldner had a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Joo Sae Hyuk.
If you see the match, the way he handled Joo, you can observe why Waldner was a true Genius of Table Tennis and above these made in china machines.
Ok,Waldner was genius but of all the Chinese players Ma is the least robotic.
In fact Ma Lin was the only chinese player who had significant problems against defenders. I always had the impression that he didn't feel comfortable when he was forced to open the racket. That is why his topspins against heavy underspin looked quite awkward.
They aren't robots , you just have minimal understanding of the game
@@dickn.ormous1064 I think Xu Xin is probably the least robotic of the chinese players I've seen.
@@dickn.ormous1064 Ya...robots are efficient. I said Xu Xin is the least robotic.
The true Giants of the sport. Legends. Best in the world.
ma lin didn't shake joo's hand, disgusting ma lin
Because this video doesn't show.they shake hand in the original one.
@@猜猜日日聲聲 you sure? He really looked like he just went away, do you have the original video? In chinese I guess, because I really did not find it
It's impossible and it would be a shame to China
1:01 Creepy reflection
I don't know why people like the new ball the old ball is far more entertaining
What is the diference??
the new ball was introduced to make the game less entertaining and slower.
ma lins loop was so weak back then!
Can I find on youtube a whole match Joo Sae Hyuk against Ma Lin?
Ma Lin has a long movement for his forehand-loop, that Takes so much energy. Also he cannot change the mode easily from slow to speedy spin and the reversed, which enables Yoo to find an efficient distance from the table, from where he can play his defensive game.
You could expect more from Ma Lin but he gets tired because of his technique.
Someone mentioned Waldner against Joo elsewhere in this thread, but Waldners game against choppers is a completely different thing.
4:05 I love his backhand serve
a match for history
I think the difference between now and then is how the Chinese have developed their technique to attack at all times possible
00:35 LOL there's a sheep marking the score
ma lin must have been very upset ... LOL
When table tennis was entertaining
no plastic balls
go watch the Lebrun brothers these days, especially Felix with his amazing penhold technique
@@cldptyes maybe, but you cant replace old times
7:28
Great point for sure. When I watched it, I had the feeling that Ma Lin thought that he knew very well what he was doing in that last moment of the point (looking at how he hit the ball before...): He tried a centered drop shot, but expected much more top side spin by Joo. He was just mistakin'...
Ma Lin's defense improved within the years
Fantastic player Ma Lin, but not a fan of his personality and I feel like he looks down upon players such as Joo. Legendary match!!
the chinese are certainly robotic clones
Ma Lin the Best
What a fight.
Ma Lin bad looser 9:58
Hey see you are so jealous - and you are so bad at English spelling too😂
@@chadeli8271
I speak Spanish. I think Ma Lin ended the match angry
👋🏾
How old was Ma ling at this time?
23
No...he looks 53 almost.. (sorry ma lin)
Yes, they were both 23 at that time
23 but Ma Lin looks like an old man, i dont know why...
If ML won this match he knew he would have had a huge window to be world champion vs Schlager.
Undoubtedly, but he was weak against choppers, having lost their 2 previous encounters.
Also,if Samsonov had beaten Kreanga he would have been World Champion 'cause he owned both JSH and Schlager.
at the end of the final set, Malin begin feel that he will lose, so his style a little bit change with chop after spin.. it's give opportunity for Joo to attach and get the point :-)
Wth Ma Lin threw his racket up in the air????
What blade and rubbers use Joo ?
7 28 - OMFG!
Chop god _ JSH.
вот это матч !
lol that is funny as much it is true , Indeed the best wttc ever
Attitude of a douchebag Ma Lin at the end, no handshake. Well done Joo, even in the final, the best defenser ever ! (Matsushita at the second place)
Ma Lin does not like to play far from table
ma lin is mad coz he is bad Kappa
i look ma lin , make me LOL
馬琳輸得心心不忿
Oh my god 😁😁😁
must be extremely taxing playing someone like Joo
i think most of the player need to learn from Joo to plays as always (cut ) the ball to slow down the speed of the ball in order not to (jump) out of the (feild)....
slaughtered Schlager? what are you talking about? Liqin usually slaughtered Ma and Schlger kicked Liqins butt
watch?v=2xt4pX9Usqc (Schlager kicks Ma)
when two friends can't agree on what game they want to play
If Ma Lin had beaten Joo, he'd played against Schlager, and "slaughtered" him, but strangely enough Ma Lin has yet to win the WTTC, but has been so close so much, and also lost what should've been easy games.
Colton Brown Even if Ma had beaten Joo, he still would have had to go through Kreanga to go to the final, and Schlager, who was playing very well, to win.
Schlager beat Kong Linghui and Wang Liqin in this tournament and Ma Lin himself in the subsequent team worldcup. I don't think that anyone could have managed to "slaughter" him in those times. Especially not a player who was strategically and tactically one-dimensional like Ma Lin.
@@NoSpeechForTheDumb The team World Championship is best of 5 as opposed to best best of 7 format so it favors the weaker player. It was probably the only win over Ma Lin in God know's how many attempts (their first match was in 1996)so I think Ma Lin would have been the favorite.
@@dickn.ormous1064 Ma Lin was often favorite in WTTCs and never managed. Besides being technically one-dimensional he struggled with his mentality. That's why he lost to Joo (and almost every other defender he ever met). Schlager on the other hand was mentally flawless in that tournament. Looking at how many match points he saved against Kong and Wang, it may be assumed that he was almost unbeatable at that instance.
@@NoSpeechForTheDumb Both Kong Linghui and Wang Liqin had average serve-receiving skills and exploitable bh. Ma Lin was a more difficult player against Europeans just ask Samsonov who had no chance whatsoever against him.
His match up with JSH is irrelevant.Schlager himself was pretty useless against lefties losing to He Zhiwen at the WTTC in 2005,he was anything but multi-dimensional.As He Zhiwen said he played with many changes but had too many loopholes in his game.
Ma's loses at the WTTC were against teammates who had the advantage of being familiar with his game,it's the same problem Waldner had against his teammates and hardly reflect the dynamics against foreign players.

Great sport.
