The time they give you to print and look through the charts varies depending on the agency/cruise line. The longest time window I had for that was 30 minutes and in another audition I had to have them ready right away, like 5-10 minutes to print them. In some auditions, you'll play to backing tracks all the way, in some auditions without them and in one audition there was one chart with a track and two with just the click. One audition had a short snare solo/march, so be prepared for that kind of stuff too. Grab a Mitchell Peters snare etude book and just sight read that stuff.
Interesting! I audition for three agencies and Celebrity Cruises (Got into all three, decided on Celebrity of course lol) directly and they usually gave me an hour to look things over with pre-selected pieces of music. The pieces certainly changed accordingly.
@@RobertRodriguezdrummer I auditioned for a couple too. In the end, Suman offered me a 6 month gig on Norwegian Cruise Line that I took and I'll be starting in March. Joining the ship in Rio de Janeiro and leaving in Reykjavik. I'm just out of school so can't be too choosy, but I've heard NCL is a decent line to work for. Your videos on this are pretty darn helpful by the way. Cheers! :D
@@mikkovaltonen3564 That's fantastic! Congratulations, NCL is a great company to work for. Some of the ships might even give you your own room if you're lucky. The big thing is passing the time when you're not playing. I spent my time working out and playing cards lol I'm really happy to hear my videos helped! I remember when I first did my contract I felt a little blind sided so I thought a video would be really helpful to those interested.
I love music and love playing it even more. Having said that, I would rather scrub pots and pans on a cruise ship than work as a musician on a cruise ship. Unless I played only what and when I wanted to. I’m 99.99% sure that that gig just doesn’t exist.
It's one of those gigs where you truly have to love performing. That being said, you can certainly make a living with your original music. It's just a different path entirely. I'm not sure you would want to scrub the pans though man. lol I had a lot of friends who worked in the kitchen, they said it was non-stop

Good suggestions, thank you for sharing.
Thank you Robert!
Are they currently hiring ambiance personnel? You know "guy hanging out at bar." "Guy lounging on mezzanine."
