    www.amazon.com...
Dr. Doug Lisle is an evolutionary psychologist and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness. He and his colleagues (Jennifer Howk and Richard Seidel) have developed a revolutionary method for approaching life challenges and improving self-confidence and self-esteem. They describe their approach as Esteem Dynamics - an approach with clinical insights derived from evolutionary psychology.
Central figures having major influence on the development of Esteem Dynamics include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Robert Trivers, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered world-leading theorists in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world’s greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort, and weds Dr. Lisle’s 30-years of clinical experience to the deep insights into human nature only recently available via evolutionary psychology.
Dr. Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, and was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. His research and clinical interests include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety and depression, the genetics of individual differences, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, Dr. Lisle lectures widely on health and wellness.

Hi Chef A.J., I'm Audrey, who asked the question about the junk food at work, as a nanny. It was so sad. Their pantry was 3/4 full of junk food, and get this, the mom is a Pediatric neurologist. Well, guess what? I had sent that question a few months ago, and since then, I quit! Yayyy for me, it's just my pantry now!

Recently, my husband and I watched the Netflix series "Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones." He is doing a low fat WFPB diet to reverse diabetes, so he's already on board with me. But, his immediate reaction was this: wine, olive oil and nuts are good for me! Of course, this is months into a Starch Solution diet. I wasn't happy! I agree with Dr. Lisle: people can learn about the Blue Zones, and find something there to focus on which isn't the most critical thing to work on. Plus, this: I felt sort of discouraged considering that having a tight community is so critical to longevity. Like most Americans, I don't have that. To stay where I am, I would need to join a church which means I would need to fake a belief I don't have.

Your husband is the perfect example as to why programs like these are not that helpful. Additionally they spread much unnecessary anxiety. I am sure you have plenty of community if you were really to examine it scientifically.

Chef AJ: I would love to hear more about Dr. Lisle's views on ADHD, particularly in relationship to executive dysfunction. He would probably call it "low conscientiousness" and he wouldn't be wrong about that! I understand that ADHD distractibility might have been beneficial to hunters in the past, but many jobs now require hyper-attention to dull, repetitive tasks. This is true even in the professions. How can we help people who struggle with this?

Remarkably forthright on the Blue Zones, I've always had a niggling feeling that the 'solid' points about mostly unrefined plant food diet, movement from walking, gardening etc., clean less polluted surroundings were far more important than the fuzzy stuff of social relationships, sense of belonging etc. though fhese may have had some role. Circumcision too, sensible answer. The nanny's job good idea to consider a new job. Thanks for a good video.

I thought when stress hormones are coursing through the body on an ongoing basis that affects the immune system, and that could make you prone to break down in different systems. Ongoing stress like if you’re living in a house of clutter, and you keep planning on clearing the clutter, but you just don’t get to it…??? I’ve heard that ongoing stress releases cortisol, and not good for the heart ❤️ ???

So agree with the ADHD thing. As a classroom teacher I’ve seen kids who’re supposed to be such concentrate for long periods if they are adequately interested in something. Plus young boys tend to have a lot more energy to burn and as Doug says, it’s unnatural to expect them to sit in one place for long periods doing stuff they have little interest in: they’d much rather be outside playing ‘cops and robbers’ or something similar.

Love Dr Doug. There isnt anyone who I agree with 100% so I'll continue to glean from him. However, "Feelings Buried Alive Never Die" and people can die of a "broken heart" Unresolved trauma is a real problem that causes physical issues. For instance, studies show that people who experienced child sexual abuse are more likely to get certain autoimmune diseases. Cortisol, adrenalin, and other hormones most definitely effect all functions of the body and stress effects those hormones. PTSD has a PHYSICAL effect on the body. We are spiritual, emotional and physical beings. I am really surprised and saddened that Dr Lisle doesn’t agree but i still love him and Chef AJ is one of my favorite podcasters, even though i dont agree 100% with her either. People who get mad and unsub when they disagree with something are quite immature. What a way to go through life....letting ego get in the way and not capable of learning from others if you dont agree 100% with them on every little thing.

Because there wasn't a more accurate way of diagnosis before now. I'm 68. There was nothing or no one to pick it up until recent years. Females present differently to males and it takes a skilled and educated professional to get a accurate official diagnosis. It's different brain wiring as well as the inability to produce enough dopamine. It ruined my life in several ways and in retrospect I see that and saddens me. Many also have Autism as well, which actually more of the brain wiring aspect. For a long time it was thought that A D.D was a male only thing. A D.D. and A D.H.D are two different manifestations. For females it is A D.D. the attention aspect without hyperactivity. So it's more internal.

I enjoy Dr. Lyle’s ideas but I do disagree with his assertion that there is no ADHD. As a former elementary teacher I can promise you that there really is such a thing and it isn’t subtle. It’s easy to observe. As to the cause…. Don’t know, but I know parents try all kinds of natural treatments, dietary interventions, no screens, exercise… and yet the behaviors remain in many cases. These behaviors interfere with normal functioning and learning. I don’t have all the answers but I feel it’s important not to minimize or deny very real learning and attention and regulation problems that children- and older people have.

Please stop using the word 'retarded' Dr Lisle 39:08, it's deeply offensive to people with learning disabilities, the same way the N word is offensive to black people. I've heard you on other videos using the same word :(
