im doing this right now, and im in 7th grade, and extremely stressed, but hopefully our boat will make it through the course without falling into that water.
Take it to next level, MIT. Do the Thor Heyerdahl challenge in a cardboard boat or, if feeling particularly "Will Hunting" cocky, the Red Bull Flugtag challenge xD
Amateurs. Some of those people weren't using cardboard paddles. Also paper tape and paint hold up much better in water than duct tape. I don't see why they're saying it's more challenging without duct tape.
As a former inhabitant of the Amazon, I think I would do fine in this regata. I've made a boat out of palm leaves and gum. Also made a raft out of political campaign ads which to be honest, didn't sink unlike our government did. In other words, I was freaking poor and had to move across a river with pirañas and fish that crawl into your pp whole. Damn... I miss the jungle.
suddenly I understand why our country is falling apart.. these are some of the most ridiculously poor design decisions I’ve ever seen anybody make how is this MIT? this is what you expect out of a neighborhood boat contest..
Ideal boat has already been designed, hence wankery. Aside from practical application of learning not very progressive. Should design a unique challenge in a nascent field with an objective that actually impacts the real world. That would take this to the next level.
As a higher education institution, wouldn't you think that the infantile thrill of falling into the water is outweighed by trying to consume less natural materials in order to help our earth? Why don't you think of using recyclable materials to construct those boats and you would be really intructing your students to a worthwhile cause.
Carlos, I can't think of any math involved with recycling. Don't really see how your concern is important, students are there to learn practical stuff.
We did this with duct tape instead of paper tape and often times the duct tape failed because the adhesive isn’t made for paper applications

Did he fr just say building a cardboard boat is more challenging to engineer than a formula one car..
Hi I need help building a scale model. What formula do you use to convert the actual weight of pounds for a model

Why not take a proven boat shape?
Aren't they allowed to use the internet?
Multihulls are also allowed?
Cambridge University do this on River Cam.
I wish I have the money to study at MIT. Just the best university...!!
That is amazing will always be my dream collage

That many students in pool at once with that few lifeguards at bay means this is more than a lesson about survival of boats.
