I'm working on a film right now that is about to spend $4,000.00 refinishing a wood floor because someone used gaffer tape on it. Before you put any tape down, try a small piece in a corner or closet area first to see what it does to the finish. Also, the longer the tape is down, the more impact it may have on the finish. When it comes to any floor with a finish, it's best to ask yourself if you really need to tape it down or not. Painter's tape tends to be the best for floors, but sometimes even that tape can pull up a finish.

I would totally advise not putting any tape over the "entry point" of a media card. During ingest, I've once seen a person pull off the tape, accidentally stripping away the gold reader on it.
also it's possible to strip the casing apart, since it's really thin plastic when you pull on the tape, you can easily open up te plastic casing of the SD card and break the clips. Must say there really isn't much to this gaff tape video...

Conveniently there is a little slider to prevent accidental erasure after a shoot. Always a better option imho.

That little slider on the card is designed specifically for that purpose. Tape is unnecessary.

im here from a penn and teller fool us video where they implied this tape was the key to the trick so i wanted to see what it was exactly.
I don't know about any of this video or music production stuff but I see the use there. I recently discovered Gaff tape and having been a heavy duct tape and gorilla tape user over the years, I instantly love it. You won't really have something falling apart at the perforations like you will with duct tape. It doesn't care that you dumped water over it, it'll stick back. The adhesive isn't leaving junk all over. It's stronger than gorilla tape and easier to use.
Don't get me wrong. Gorilla tape is strong stuff. But it stretches and the material slides away from the adhesive. Gaff just holds. Curious how it breaks down over time compared to other tapes
paper tape is better for marking, some wood floors can have their coatings pulled off by gaff tape
Had that happened on a waxed tile floor. After removing our backdrop paper we left *quickly*. :-)
Did I miss the memo saying that they were renaming GAFFER tape to Gaff tape? Is this a cost-saving initiative? Maybe it's an AV industry thing?
i can verify the 'do not use duct tape'... lol for a play we taped down a runner (rug) to mute sound behind the set wall... it was hardwood... after 3 weeks when i went to pull up the rug... i gave a short yank to get it up at a corner... note I am not really that strong and am nearly always played out by this point from a month of pre/post production mania... when i pulled further i stipped off a layer of REAL (not laminate) hardwood O_O. It was only my good luck to find out the whole stage surface was to be replaced anyhow in a few months LOL So ya I promised a new role of gaff tape the next time if i had to use it lol.
I had a short gig with a supposed 'major' AV company (Rhymes with 'weeman'). They insisted 'one non broken length of gaff tape and to double up everything. I chuckled and said I've never heard of anyone doing it that way (total waste of tape) and they told me their way or the highway. They also bought their gaff in bulk from a cheap supplier...half way through it would stop coming off the roll making taping near impossible. This is also the company that has you AV work in a full suit.....a 'full suit!' . At least these 'brainiacs' keep the industry interesting for the rest of us.
My High School Performing Arts department uses gaff. This tape is the most useful thing ever
DONT YOU DARE TEACH PEOPLE TO PUT GAFFTAPE ON POLISHED FLOORS. Paper tape or painters tape for marks, no wasting that precious expensive tape.

Originally called Gaffer tape because it was the mainstay of movie gaffers on set. Still use that monicker✌️
Cool, thanks. I'd like to use black gaffer's tape to label my containers that about 11cm. What point (0.5, 0.8, 1.0 or another point) and brand of pen with white ink is best for gaff or gaffer's tape- the most readable but the lines are not so thick that the letters are crammed?

The last thing you want to do is tape in sections because that creates tripping hazards. Using an entire roll of $30 gaf tape is cheaper than paying put for someone's broken arm or face.
So gaff tape doesn't necessarily stick better than duct tape?
It's used more often because of it's higher heat tolerance and it leaves less residue behind? That's it?
Gaff tape is also low sheen black so that it is not seen when the lights are shining.

Covering a san disc SD card with gaff tape will void its warranty.
Paper Tape is better. Cheaper and worldwide available.
Лепить гафтейп на деревянный пол- плохая затея, можно повредить покрытие. Лепить гафтейп на сд карту- очень плохая идея, можно повредить контакты и просрать материал. На них как бы есть маленький переключатель для блокировки материала. Так заморачиваться, тратить дорогую ленту, чтобы просто сделать петельку на рекордере, вместо того, чтобы просто взять веревочку,- тоже дурацкая затея, где мутка важнее прихода. Только совет про то, что не обязательно покрывать тейпом весь провод- ничего так, приму на вооружение, хотя лучше потратиться на тейп, чем на новый осветительный прибор или, еще хуже, создать травмоопасную ситуацию на съёмках.
