this is an awesome breakdown and teaching/learning moment - thx for talking about this! There was a bunt play on Mon. Aug 29 w the Jays and Santiago Espinal in extra innings, Sac bunt to 3rd situation. S.Espinal totally directed his bat towards 1B instead of 3B - it was so infuriating to watch.
Exactly. My rule on bunt is "if in doubt, get an out." We normally just get the out. I bring my 3B. Leave my 1B at first (unless hard at him) as P can cover left side or bag, if needed. And what you said is why we almost always bunt for hits (rather than sac) because defenses force plays and usually often get nothing and, occasionally, throw it away.
Playing show 14 & looking up stats from that year. Trying to see how close the video game can mimic season. McGehee was a rookie w Marlins & grounded into 30 something DP. He batted behind Stanton most time. I wld hv had him leading off. Couldn't hit for power & got lots of doubles. Over 60 outs by 1 player is too many. Poor lineup management! You wld think managers would sac bunt or call fr steal when u hv a guy who hits grounders all time.

What's a bunt?
in highschool as well, kids try to do too much and doesnt even get an out. Get the sure out if its too shady for you.

This is why baseball is a dying sport. Bunts should be outlawed
Bunts work for shifts and other scenarios. They’re supposed to be limited.
This makes no sense
Bunting puts pressure on defenses. Plus, if defense plays closer to defend, you just opened hitting lanes for the hitter.
@@daytripper1860 I understand the strategy, it’s just a boring aspect of the game that is already boring
@@Cofitube94 Appreciate your opinion. I think otherwise, but have coached baseball for 40 years so I am biased.
