I am ashamed of my country’s government stance on this. Can feel the pain of the parents,Apologies and condolences to the victims families on behalf of my country
Tighten the rules? Chodi just passed Jan Vishwas bill which makes it easier for companies to sell such substandard medicines to Indians without any liability.
The Indian Pharma industry is going to face the heat with this much growth. They better tighten their quality standards. This cannot be messed with. Lives are at stake here
The person like Umesh Sanghi (the advisor for Pharma) is exactly the reason for this kind of incident. He came out with a story to protect his interest and it end there. Crazy enough, people believe in it because it protect India interest.
Thank you Bloomberg. Please also investigate the recent blindness and death cases in poor countries that were linked to eyedrops exported from India. There may be a common thread of poor quality Indian-made drugs that do not get past internal quality control standards in India, being dumped on poorer countries due to India's poor export quality controls. As India's own population is not being affected by these wholly export-oriented low quality drug manufacturers, Indians may not care about the deaths of people in poorer foreign countries caused by the low quality rejected drugs that India exports elsewhere.
A court in Haryana's Sonipat, where Maiden has its main production facility, ordered jail for company founder Naresh Kumar Goel and technical director MK Sharma for exporting heartburn medicine "not of standard quality" to Vietnam.
As a indian i sympathize with the parents who lost their kids 😢. Also as a indian i can tell you that my people are very iggnorant & dishonest as if they can never do any wrong or make mistakes. Taking responsibilty is something most indians struggle with. Ego is more important then being honest. There are a lot of indians in the western hemisphere that still get drugs from India to save a buck. Generic medicine that no one really knows whats in it. Plus lets be honest, looking at the horrible state the pharmaceutical building in Delhi was i would never buy any medication from a run down shady looking business. Maybe if some indians kids died India would do something about it. Hope the families get justice.
Why was Maiden Pharma only authorized for export, and not for internal sales in India? Is it because the Indian Government carries out more stringent tests on internally marketed drugs compared to exported drugs, which are mainly destined for poorer developing countries with much lower capacity for drug quality control and testing (or for suing India in case of tragedies)? Did India hope to get away undetected with its poor export quality control, while capitalizing on the potential for soft diplomacy with those poor countries?
People still remember Austrian wine diethylene glycol poisoning, or melamine in Chinese milk. The reputational damage would be far greater if the government doesn't deal with it immediately.
This kind of things destroy the name and the trust of buyers of indian made products , people trust in "made in germany " , "made in japan " "made in england" because there is some security in their manufacturers and producers but wen we see this king of "cheating" in índian produts people have reasons not to trust the same way many people dislike chinese products .
It’s a shame that the world (or at least a large part of it) doesn’t get together when something like this happens, and refuse to buy any of that companies products. When their sales dropped to zero, and the offending company faces financial ruin, you bet you would see something happen. It seems financial pressure works better that the threat of force. When children are involved, we should all be outraged!
This is the problem with the Indian authority in general. They try to brush off every allegation using nationalist sentiments. Accountability for sensitive products like medicines should be a high priority, no matter whether it's sold at home or abroad.
Atleast show us a definitive picture and the name of the cough medicine so that the viewers know what to look out for. Granted people in 1st world countries won't prob see it, but these videos ate watched by everyone with an internet connection. Even in poor, 3rd world countries, internet connection and cellphones are common. Might save more lives since who knows where and how much of this stuff is still out there, or worse, still being made.
I think the govt doesnt believe in this is due to the fact that no casualties were reported in india where people also consume the same drugs. But a thorough investigation should be carried out and the offenders should be either thrown in prison or extradited to these countries to face the law.
Nigeria is the largest pharmaceutical producer in Africa. Why didn’t Gambia buy from Nigeria but India? I have never heard this issue happening with Nigerian medicines.
This not the first time this happen with índia origin medicine , for years i ear of the danger from buying drugs online because of dangerous origin .i have read a news report related to drug security , some bad people in Brazil , eastern europe and china sell dangerous drugs online and many o these are india origin .

These tragedies call for justice. These drug manufacturers must be held accountable for their wrongdoings. We as consumers should boycott Indian made drugs if there is nothing is done about their practices.
Indian mainstream media (politician bosses + anyone who can post journalists ) is busy checking what Bollywood actors are wearing for underwear today ...
Indian media is consistently muzzled by PM Modi's government. They are not allowed to report any truths that might 'tarnish the reputation' of India or the government. So they have to do other silly things just to survive. It is dangerous to be a truth-seeking journalist in India today.
Sadly but true. If that would happen in the U. S there would be consequences. But you can't blame the U.S for other countries failing to take more steps. Their government must speak up and bring pressure. They could also send people to investigate and extradite anyone responsible
@chetankrishna6635 yep anyone like for example the person who was reporting of the story. He was investigating. Also a private detective, family member, a CIA agent. "Extradite" of course they can request an extradition with solid evidence. It is the duty of every State to exercise its criminal jurisdiction over those responsible for international crimes. The International Criminal Court can only intervene where a State is unable or unwilling to genuinely carry out the investigation and prosecute the perpetrators. The reason it won't happen is because of resources. It's easier for their government to pressure than anyone else
Big Pharma is a huge exploitative industry globally. While, India needs to improve on monitoring and regulation, it is also a fact that Indian generic medicines are also a boon globally. Many in poor countries cannot afford to buy the drugs made by companies in the West. Video should have been more balanced, rather than focusing on one aspect solely.
I honestly dont understand why youre discussing these dubious schemes. There are plenty of options like Cannafarm Ltd and similar ones that are fast and profitable.
