I happened to be at the vulture garage in Spence’s Bridge when he was filming this. Never heard of him or his shop before that day. His truck absolutely blew me away, and Karl was extremely friendly and happy to answer any questions I had, even though he was working. His friendliness actually caught me off guard. He is a straight up good person and one hell of a talented fabricator. The truck he built is stunning
Most parents, (mine included), tend to punish kids who take things apart due to their curiosity. I'm glad to know that there are folks like your's who encouraged their youngsters and supported their quest for knowledge.
Looking back it’s pretty much the most amazing thing my parents did. They never stopped us from trying different things even if it ruined our backyard lol my mom and dad would just laugh and look at all the part and junk and tools on the grass. “At least we don’t need to cut the grass” lol
This video is amazing, the filming and cinematography was just WOW. I understood every word when you were describing different types of metals, the textures, the colors and how they react to time. Here in Saskatchewan there are so many vehicles doing time in the fields, pastures and delapitated structures. Just waiting to be saved. Let see the interior of Brenda's truck! 🤟
Karl I don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said already ! I’m a car guy too and metal man pushing 60 ! 😳 And all your contents has put the fire in my belly ! I love all your posts ! From Down Under 🦘 Cheers Andy
No BS, mistakes not hidden, the ability to beat the snout out of it, and most important, The last words, ''I'm just going to do whatever I want with it'' This IS what Heart and soul of hot rodding looks like!
I have watched this video numerous times I really enjoy it it is an inspiration to hear someone with as much passion as I about metal shaping and nature and building. Many days I enter the shop and this is the first video I listen to and watch on the TV I have on the wall while I work
Beautiful video! I get goosebumps when I see certain details of the cab I'd not seen in decades. I fiddled with one in high school and junior college back in the late '70s and early '80s. I never finished it and wound up donating it to a church auction for my grandma's church. I had other projects by then, including an old military jeep. But I never forgot my '38 Dodge.
Credit to everyone involved in the making of this pretty cool short film, Carl thanks for sharing your knowledge and attitude to "You can do it" . 👍 Thanks
Well Karl , I now know why I have been drawn to your work , you are probably the coolest guy on the planet in my eyes , All up front and nothing hidden . I just love that vibe .Viva la difference !
Karl Your artistry is awesome! To follow a passion is what makes a craftsman and to persue the extreme of ones craft makes a Grand Master. There are so few of those. A s you never stop learning until the day they put you in a box. Have enjoyed all your vids and tips. Keep it up as you are just a pleasure to watch and learn from. Huge Kudos man. Tuning in from Melbourne Australia.
I had a similar childhood of disassembled toys and soldering irons. I'm already coaxing Little OMG (my three year old son) into the life of never ending projects. He was sitting on the couch watching this video with me and declared that he wanted a truck... one that makes fire! so I think its going in the right direction so far. So thankyou Karl (good thing you did a video on the flame throwers already)
What I liked about this video is that you told us the story along with pictures and videos. never got boring and you stayed glued to the TV. Well, Well put together. Plus, I already watching your channel.😁
Karl, I love your truck! I have a '65 Nova Gasser that I built. It's nothing like your truck but so similar at the same time! The little details, the repurposed parts! I mostly repurpose old metal into art. The creative process is so important to me. You see I have Parkinson's and the creative process is so very therapeutic, I literally can't I've without it!
Love your ‘how to ‘ videos, and great to see someone honing these skills which are deemed too hard generally these days. I hope you can keep making a living out of it. I would love to do what you do. Building these cars, I agree is a form of art and expression of your skills. Not everyone will like it but not everyone likes Picasso either! Keep it up and keep sharing your craft, there are people out here that have never seen how this stuff is done
Absolutely brilliant. Karl I doff my cap to you. Keep up your fantastic work. As your mind to me works perfectly. Its just a shame that here in the UK. All your dreams your passions would only ever stay that way. Nothing you have created or dreamt about would be allowed any where near a public road.
I was right there with you taking all my toys apart as a kid. Thankfully my parents embraced that and that made me who I am today. I've got a Model-A I've been messing with for a while and this doc has definitely lit my fire again. Thank you
That’s what they’re built for! Total enjoyment. It’s so funny that we posted it yesterday and yesterday I was back in Cache Creek for Graffiti days for the first time since I built the truck
The mind of a true craftsman should never be wasted. Thankfully your father was supportive and you desire shows in the quality of work. Thankyou for sharing your experience👍🏻
Your story is inspiration to me brother! I love metal and just shaping something that’s known as indestructible and making something completely differant. My journey is just starting. I grew up building crazy stuff. Built a go cart out of a snowmobile and a junked odessey chassis at 14 and life changed for me until recently I started my own journey….
Great video! I have a whole new appreciation for you and the truck... as much as the truck is a showpiece, it's not a museum piece... it's meant to be flogged...thrashed...driven... and best of all... enjoyed!! Nicely done!
Pure inspiration dude loved it. One day when im stood next to my truck at a show and somebody askes "what inspired you to build this? " my answer will be KARL FISHER
Karl! Ahh man what a fantastic bit of film and insight into your life and work, I love to see your enthusiasm and genuine love for your art and you come across as a very friendly guy too, its very refreshing to see, keep up the great work dude and greetings from the uk
Hey Karl, awesome video about you and your truck. If you play long enough with a toy, something will give or break. You have the knowledge to fix it. Take care and be safe.
It is awesome to see you get the credit I think you deserve. I started watching your geeky how to videos that are so full of awesome content and techniques to where you are now. Fantastic work!
Also, I love to watch people bending metal into vehicle's. I think that is the sweetest and coolest thing. I do Upholstery for a living, but if I would have knew about metal like I know now, I don't know. But, I Love doing Upholstery, it's my gift.
I realized several years ago I didn’t need all the fancy tools to fabricate something custom. I made turn signal brackets for a square body from a piece of sheet metal, cutoff wheel, hammer, welder and vise.
Hi Karl, I spent the summer of ‘81 throwing hay bales on the north end of Okanagan Lake outside Vernon. I love that area (doesn’t look like it’s changed much). Great videos!
Loved this video Karl. You deserve it. I have to say, that being 72, retired, and fascinated with metal working (I built a machine shop in my garage). I have watched you, Paul Brodie, and Fitzee and a rare few others. You and Fitzee are my "go to" to learn. I have started taking on metal shaping, at an elementary level, in my garage, and amazed myself at how useful the techniques I learn from you guys are. I have reconstructed totally destroyed parts, and brought them back, that previously would have just tossed and got a new one. Kudos for you guys.
From childhood until now, you've always had this gift, just imagine what you'll know 25 years from now ! And you're not that person trying to keep up with the Jones either, your gift is how you see everything and the wheels inside your head, Make it Kustom. That was a great video and very well done !
That is an awesome piece machine-art. I just love watching a craftsman working on his own ride, because there are so many features or special little touches that might not go on a vehicle you build for someone else. You will probably never be finished the truck, as it is an extension of yourself and you both will keep evolving. day by day. I hope you never stop pushing yourself, so that your wisdom and skills can continue to blow peoples minds in the future. Stay safe, happy and healthy in all your future endeavors.
Damnit Karl!! It's Sunday, another lazy day. And you got me wanting to go work on my crusty 94 accord coupe dx. I need your tools. I've got tubs of "pieces" too. Mostly metals, some glass. I can do what you do, but never had the tools. A teen in the 90's working the Norfolk VA shipyards taught me SO MuCH about fabrication. Great Doc fellers, and excellent job Karl spreading the disease
KARL! You are awesome man!!!! I love ya man and I love how yo built your truck, just so awesome! I have to meet you and take one of your classes to up my game. I wear your gear with pride here in Arizona, b/c you really inspire me to build and push my skills in metal forming. Thanks, Carl Carlson
All I can say is wow. Great video and Carl you’re an amazing fabricator and creator. Couldn’t believe you were in Canada when I looked up your shop, I didn’t know talent this good hung out north of the border. Proud Canadian from Nanaimo on Van island 🤘🏼
That was awesome ! Loved it ! I've told you before and I'll say it again, that is my most favorite custom in this world ! If I was offered any vehicle in this crazy world , that JAPHANDS CUSTOM would be my top choice ; bar none ! What an excellent video that will be watched over and over again. Absolutely made my day ! LarryMac
Wow. What an awesome video! You had some great support in your youth. I think in a similar way,but i never realized i could do what i imagined. 30 years ago, i wanted to learn to shape metal, then life kicked in, shit jobs and no money and no place to do what i want. Times have changed, the last 8 years, start learning. Built my first toy, and now i want more. Karl, you are an inspiration, i thank you for sharing your skills and your exceptional story. Great job on the video!
Nice doco, I just love that little truck, it's so mechanically functional and raw, every component has a story and your use of materials especially the brass, so sweet, great job. Your an inspiration Karl, amazing work.
“ If you do what you love, you’ll never “work” a day in your life.” That love shows in your creativity. Thanks for posting this. Great video.
Thanks so much glad you enjoyed it! And you’re absolutely right! Cheers

Hey Steve! We met a lot of great people that weekend including yourself. I’m always happy to chat. Thank you so much!
Artistry in metal meets artistry in media. What a great result. Near brings a tear to the eye.
My mom cried lol 😂 🙏🙏🙏🙏
What a beautifully produced addition to your lifes biography Carl. That's a precious piece in the collection. ✌

People ,with that same love of metal, shaping it and modifying it truly understand the passion that goes into the creation of a work of ar
This video is amazing, the filming and cinematography was just WOW.

It’s amazing how there are still so many vehicles available to be built. But one day they will run out
Karl
I don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said already !
