🎥 Welcome to my RUclips Channel! 🎥
My name is Paul Martin and I am a Japanese sword specialist living in Tokyo, Japan ⚔️
I used to work in the Department of Japanese Antiquities at the British Museum, London, I have a Masters in Asian Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and am currently a Trustee for the Nihonto Bunka Shinko Kyokai Public Foundation (NBSK).
🇯🇵 I also work closely with many sword institutions in Japan, including the Nihon Bi-jitsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK), providing specialist translations for books and ex-hibitions.
I am a recognized specialist by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT:観光庁), and have my own regular column at JAPAN-Forward (Sankei Shinbun).
I also lecture at several facilities in Tokyo (Honganji Japonisme Academy, Samurai Museum, Nezu Museum) and around the world.
My goal is to make the Japanese sword accessible to the world. To introduce the Japanese sword to new audiences from a Japanese perspective.
🎌 The sword in Japan is not merely a weapon, it is a sublime piece of functional art, with deep spiritual and historical significance to the Japanese people.
Just like Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms, the Japanese sword is an enduring symbol of Japan.
It is my hope to share my love and passion for Japanese swords with all of you here on RUclips.
That is why I created this Channel for the promotion and preservation of Japanese swords and related craftsmen

Beautiful sword. Even the red samegawa fits well to the rest of the koshirae.

Thank you very much. Fittings need a bit of a clean up since going through other processes, and as I keep saying, my fittings are amateur, but it has lots of personal meaning.

Awesome Paul. Sorry you couldn't use it in the comp mate.
My 9yr old daughter used her Tanjiro katana (blunt) for iai yesterday. Needs work on her water breathing techniques haha.

WOW! the Saya (鞘) is so beautiful, I love the entire project Paul, Congratulations and would love to see you being able to enter it into the competition.. You've inspired me to want to create my own! Respectfully all the best especially for a positive outcome your way re the copyright stuff.. “An intention synchronistically organizes its own fulfillment.” ― Deepak Chopra, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” - Walt Disney ,“Imagination is everything. goodafternoon
new saya is looks much more expensive!
    beautiful koshirae!
but katatemaki is not usefully for me in iai.
I use basic tukamaki in iaido!

How on earth does that saya infringe the copyright of anything?!?

    • @Paul_Martin_The_Japanese_Sword
      @Paul_Martin_The_Japanese_Sword  3 года назад +2

It’s not the saya alone. It’s the whole combination of the koshirae, but I am in full agreement with you. How can you copyright a certain combination of various sword parts that have already existed in that style for centuries.

Wow that is very cool! I’ve had an idea kicking around for years, hopefully I can get started on it in the next year or so. Still bummed about the shinsa news but maybe they will change their minds.
