This is a awesome review of the 1982/83 G.I. Joe Vamp with Clutch. I recently bought one for myself and I love it, it has great detail and in good condition for it's age. Thumbs up for your review HCC788.
I never had this when I was young, but I recently acquired the VAMP after getting Clutch early in 2022. One of the holy grails in my collection that I am still rebuilding. Reacquired several pieces that were lost in 1999 in a storage locker auction as well as several pieces that I never had
Checking YoJoe.com, there is an image titled "Weapons Profile" that says the gun on the hood is a 7.62mm machine gun. It makes sense to have a front-mounted gun in case you need to deal with "Sunday Drivers" while your main weapon is fending off an aerial assault.
this was the very first GI Joe toy i got (for passing 4th grade i think) - i was cool with it but then my mom said something like "why don't you pick out a few of the figures so you don't just have the one guy" and that turned into Stalker and Snake Eyes and maybe one or two more
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the thingy on the VAMP hood is a camera. Again, it would have been cool to see something like this and the Stinger in the movies, so many iconic vehicles and their drivers were passed over. Seriously, Hollywood?!

The machine gun looking thing on the hood of the Vamp is a Progressive insurance Snapshot system.
Got this for my birthday in '82. Was an awesome gift! Thanks for the share.
Good review, very thorough. My childhood Vamp I had broken roll bars after several years of play.

If I go deaf I will be sad I can never hear the VAMP's squeeky wheels again.
Question: Would the 1982 machine gun fit on the 1984 VAMP? Thanks.
@HoodedCobraCommander788 Did GIJOE loose the trademark to Clutch's codename? In the 2008 re-release his codename is now Double Clutch.
what's the difference between this and the Sears exclusive version? thanks
WD-40 should get rid of that squeak without damaging anything. Just a light application should do
That was a great toy
Is his helmet green or gray? It looks different all the time.
Cool! I have this one, but the steering wheel is broken! I do not have the driver! I have one like it!
Wish I still had mine, got lost in moving.
I have two vamps but I have broken the roll cage of both of them... I wish to buy a Gijoe RAM, Silver Mirage, weapons transport and Mean Dog.
Wasn't Clutch in a creamish yellow uniform in the cartoons?
I have a straight arm Clutch. Despite a broke thumb and missing helmet, I’m very proud of him.
Never owned one damn it ....
