Lucy's mother's reveal was a gut punch in the best way. Seeing Hank go from the father we all wanted saved to being the bad guy was also really well done.

I'm honestly surprised how good this show was. I played Fallout, it's a lot deeper than people think. The show actually takes consideration with the game mechanics of some characters having more "Luck" than others, Charisma. Aiming. The are all accurate to the lore. It's not supposed to be realistic it's a satire of that world. I'm glad they got an Emmy nomination.

The "spy device" was basically a bluetooth earphone. All he did was pair it to the Pipboy, there's no actual bug planted in that. It makes sense that such a device would only be short range and meant for an accessory, not spying.

Also, the Fallout universe doesn't have the same level of microchip technology. The listening device is less advanced than what we have on our world.

It's also possible that Vault-Tec's outer walls block signals.

Cooper's wife actually is very unlikely to be in Vault 31, because it was for the "Bud's Buds" project and only contained junior executives like Hank. Barb was clearly further up the food chain (Hank "picked up her dry cleaning"), and so is probably in a more exclusive location for top execs. She also nods to someone in the shadows at the meeting, which suggests she might be enmeshed with another faction (I won't spoil anything with speculation).
I would assume Barb somehow gets her daughter after the bombs start dropping and leaves her ex-husband. We only see the initial moments of Cooper fleeing with her, after all.
As for the shitty reception of the listening device, my immediate assumption in that scene was that the Vaul-Tec HQ probably has protection against external signals like that so he had to be inside the building. If you're familiar with the Fallout universe, it's very plausible because it was peak late-stage capitalism and cutthroat corporate espionage.

The nod was probably towards US government members who eventually would be the Enclave. How and why else would the Enclave be working on VaultTec's cold fusion technology. I always wondered why the Enclave had it, and not VaultTec. That would explain it.

It's interesting to me that all of our main characters got something they believed they badly wanted - Lucy found her dad, Maximus became a knight, and Cooper became a real cowboy instead of just playing one in the movies. And once they got it, it looked very different than they'd imagined.
And our fourth protagonist, Norm - the guy who never cared about anything or wanted any responsibility - has taken on the role with THE most responsibility possible, as the sole person trying to save Vaults 32 and 33.

    • @AretaicGames
      @AretaicGames 25 дней назад

Norm also thought he was "too chicken" to leave the vault with Lucy. And yet, he ventured into Vault 31 alone and unarmed.

Good news from just a few days ago from the head of TV, Vernon Sanders (from Variety):
Sanders: We’ve been fortunate because this was the vision all along. I think we’re ahead of schedule, in terms of being able to get Season 2 back. We don’t have an exact launch date yet, but we’ve already gotten scripts in hand, and I think the fans of Season 1 will really love where we’re going for Season 2.

Last of Us and Fallout were both incredible shows and they were also completely different types of adaptations for completely different types of game. As a gamer it makes me very happy to witness a time where these productions are getting the attention and care they deserve by the creators to make the best possible show depending source material and not just being thrown at a studio to just make quick bank on an IP.

Excited to see Fallout having about 16 Emmy nominations, including Walton Goggins for Outstanding Lead Actor!
Loved playing Fallout: NV and I'm really wondering how they're going to bring that to live-action. I'm sure in the next season they'll get more into what happened the day the bombs dropped. Maybe they decided to drop it earlier than Barbara wanted them to and was forced to go along with it to appease the clients, which was why Janey was with her dad when it happened. Maybe it was someone else. It's also possible that someone from Vault-Tec intercepted Cooper and Janey while they were riding away and only took Janey under Barbara's orders.

The Ghoul slow mo, and blowing people up with his bullets is from the game. In the games, there's something called VATS. Where you can slow down time and target specific body parts. And the explosive bullets is a perk called bloody mess that blows up enemies' body parts you target. There are hundreds of references like this to the game, just too many to name. For me as a fan of the games , who has played probably over 1,000 hours. It's a 5/5, this was done with so much respect to the games , it made me smile and get emotional throughout the show. Loved ❤ your reaccion, thank you

12:00 The flaw in the armor isn't one easy to take advantage of. A 10 mm pistol still isn't going to get through. The armor piercing rounds the Chinese used in Alaska, which couldn't breach the armor in other places, apparently could, though. Which Cooper knew because he was there. That's why there was a focus on the bullet he was holding.

This show blew all my expectations for video game franchise adaptations out of the water. I think we really are living in a new era of media adaptations. The comic book movies of the past paved the way for the financial viability of video game adaptations like this. I also have a slight personal bias because I love love love the Anti-Capitalist message of the games and subsequently the televison show. This was a phenomenal watch along fellas. Thanks for finishing the show out.
EDIT: ENDING LORE: Im sure there will be tons of people pointing this out in the comments here but im gonna do it too anyway. The guy in the meeting at Vault Tec in the last episode with the Rob-Co nameplate is Mister House, he is a now a shrivled husk of a body with his brain plugged into a giant computer and runs the Vegas strip. If I had to guess, because the New Vegas game where you learn about Mister House(thats Rob-co guys name) is the most popular in the series thats where season 2 is taking place. Also, since Mister House was one of the heads of industry pre war, Ill bet Hank thinks hes still alive and can help him in some way. Also possible that there is a seperate place for the highest echelons of management IE The Ghouls family. Its probably more likely they are in LA in vault 31 just cause the opening of the show was showing us The Ghouls kid with him in LA when the bombs fell. But then again we got that line from The Ghouls wife in the hot tub that "a few hours drive isnt gonna save them" maybe that was some misdirection/foreshadowing. Who knows. I do know im super jazzed and I wanna play the games again. This show has me missing the world of Fallout. The gameplay is pretty simple all things considered. I want to go back to poking around computer systems looking for lore tidbits.

Without miniaturization made possible by transistors, you'd need a chunky radio transmitter to be able to communicate long distance. That wireless earpiece was the best alternative to be inconspicuous.
I'm glad that purists that dislike the show are few and far between, because as adaptations go this is probably the best one so far, taking as much from the source as possible and changing (you know, _adapting)_ where needed.

One of my favorite things about the Fallout universe is how deeply weird it gets when you start digging into the fringes of the canon. Like the radiation cults that might actually have something going on, and the hinted existence of Lovecraftian entities, the little green men aliens that are out there doing god knows what, talking stone heads in the desert, rumored ancient lost cities hinted as having possessed incomprehensible technology (or actual magic). Even on the more mundane end of it you have shit like immortal ghoul gorillas raising wasteland Tarzan in the ruins of a zoo and self-proclaimed comic book supervillains clashing over control of their corner of the Wasteland. The whole universe really is a grab bag of classic Pulp and Weird Fiction tropes and I love it.

Both The Last of Us and Fallout as games/shows are amazing and well executed. Imo, Fallout is slightly better because of the humor. Without the humor the show/ games would be too edgy and bleak. The humor in the show is also in the games. Fallout 4 is easy to pick up and the gameplay is fun. If you want a good story Fallout New Vegas is the game to play.
You don't need to play every game because while the events impact other games they're separated by a decade, if not more time, and they're isolated in those terms, not many reoccurring characters.
So don't be overwhelmed by the fact the games started in 1997. I've never played Fallout or Fallout 2. Don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I think the binge model happens a lot because statistically they are more successful vs weekly for new shows. Probably why they only go weekly with sure fire shows since people fall off them or wait to binge at the end but forget. I like this path because its worked with the Boys and so many shows of binge first, if successful weekly next.

After watching your reaction, it finally dawned on me that the whole Fallout season has basically been a retelling of the Wizard of Oz with Lucy as Dorothy, Maximus as the Cowardly Lion and The Ghoul as the Tin Man. Just like Dorothy, Lucy leaves her home in a devastating whirlwind event and is transported to a strange world with odd creatures and has to travel on a quest to meet a mythical figure who changes her perceptions of her reality. And when the quest is over, the answers are nothing like what she expected.

The Fallout games are a series based around player choice, when you would get to the end of the first few games you would actually get several vignettes of the various factions you helped or hindered through out your play time as well as the wrap up to your own personal story.
Some would be destroyed based on your choices, some would prosper, some would fade into history while others went on to shape the future social and political landscape. To a degree there are "good" and "bad" endings so there are no graphic novels for the main series as there is not a set singular way things could have played out.
The TV show will essentially be one of the first times they may have to write themselves into a position where they will have to officially canonize the evens of the past. Also I'm simplifying here, technically the events of the first game are fully cannon.
There is also a meta perspective of the series, as the first 2 games in the main series were produced by the same group of creators who eventually lost the rights to the current holder of the IP. When that happened the current holders somewhat soft rebooted but still kept the naming convention to keep the older player base.
The previous holders where allowed to do a side squeal by permission of the new holders, New Vegas, which generally speaking makes 1, 2 and NV a trilogy (though not really sharing or continuing a single story) and makes 3, 4 and Fallout 76 very near to it's own thing.
I would say the best way to absorb Fallout lore outside of playing the games yourself would be to watch a few summary videos of the previous game's stories. There are plenty so an overall time line video would be a good place to start.
Glad you guys enjoyed the show, been a huge fan since the 90s and though they did an excellent job. Appreciate the reactions!

I've seen the theory that Vault-Tec was planning to drop the bombs and start the war, but someone else beat them too it and caught them off guard. That would explain why Janey was out in the world instead of safely sealed in a Vault with her mother.

My personal speculation as to why capitalism, represented by Vault Tech, is a main villain of the Fallout universe dates back to the game's origins. The game Wasteland, a post apocalyptic RPG, created by Interplay Productions, and published by Electronic Arts, came out in 1988 to critical and financial success. However sequels to the game were put on the back burner by EA. Since EA owned the rights to Wasteland, Interplay had to create something new to get around the licensing issue. That new game was Fallout. The success of the Fallout games eventually caused EA to rerelease Wasteland in 2013, followed by a remaster in 2020. inXile Entertainment, a company founded by former Wasteland game director Brian Fargo was able to finally make two sequels, Wasteland 2 & 3 (in 2014 & 2020 respectfully).

I have said it in other places what this show did right, when it comes to fallout games and making a TV show is they lifted the universe not a games story. You talked about in the episode and I agree if they had tried to lift the story of a specific one of the games it might not have worked as well, maybe maybe the original Fallout, but even then, no I think lifting the universe and not the setting is best

If people can adapt a book into a movie, which has been happening for several decades, then I don't know why it's taken so long to adapt a video game like this show. Take the world, the story elements, the game play, the way that characters behave and interact and the dialogue that happens, and use that like the foundation that you build upon. Now that someone has shown how to do it, I hope we get more "good" adaptions. I'm nervous about the Legend of Zelda movie.
