People aren’t like cookie cutter mould, they have personalities and interests. Everybody has been pushed into a rat race to achieve high paying stressful job and the never ending grind is just too depressing. Maybe these people aren’t “resting” but they’re actually mentally tired? People are literally dropping like a fly due to stressful job in my country. We work to live not the other way around, I worked 12 hour shifts, I worked even through sickness because there was a deadline, even work from home was so stressful that I was having sandwiches and noodles at my work desk for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I literally started losing hair and sleep. I am not suggesting people in their 20s and 30s to not work, but there is more to life than work. Humans need to have active social life, romantic life and should be able to take out time for hobbies. We aren’t robots. Maybe they need counselling, seeking help shouldn’t be a taboo. Korea has set up its youth for failure by setting such high unattainable and unrealistic standards and then wonders why the birth rate is falling and young ones are “lazy”. Maybe it’s the parents and the government that needs to do the introspection.

Nowadays, even to land a 20-25$/hr job you are required to have 2-3 years work experience, with a degree from an exceptional university or college. Most people just aren’t going to be meeting these requirements in the first place. The jobs that they end up getting pay less, have almost zero benefits and worst of all often have a miserable working environment with toxic coworkers who love playing game of thrones in the name of office politics. Imagine spending your entire childhood studying every moment of every day, including extra classes on weekends and breaks to get into a good college, missing entry by a few points on your entry exams, and then knowing you’re going to have to go to an inferior college, which means no top employers will ever consider you, and even if you get on with a good employer all your coworkers will look down on you and bully you because you didn’t go to one of those top schools. Then you’ll be passed over for promotions, paid much less, etc. Your odds of getting married will be way lower. Your kids will get bullied because they’re not from a wealthy family. South Korea has its own version of Industry 4.0, which was launched during the former administration of lady president Park Geun-hye.
Liberal ones wanted it as comprehensive as in the case of China’s similar initiative by attempting to build parallel products to reduce its dependence on foreign products.

This relentless economic pressure chips away at our earnings, leaving us with less and less, despite our unwavering efforts to keep up. It is not merely the weight of our daily struggles that burdens us, but the profound erosion of the value of our hard work and resources that truly underscores the gravity of the situation.

Korea should focus on making sure that decent working-class jobs are available that one can support a family on. Limit factories and warehouses to be employ no more than 50% foreign-guest-worker labour. Reduce the amount of visas available for manual labour.

Why would anyone would want to work more and rest less?! Seriously. We should all aim to work smarter and not harder. We only work more because we get hourly and we don’t control our own time. If we didn’t get paid hourly and are in control of our work and time, wouldn’t we be creative to find a way to make our jobs and life easier and have more time to do other things in life, like maybe starting our own business, spending more time with our loved ones, taking care of our family, taking more care of ourselves like RESTING!!! If you are working and ended up doing more work, you’re doing something wrong. And how long we work shouldn’t even be compared to the quality of out work. It doesn’t mean that if Jimmy worked 50 hours a week and Anna worked 35 hours a week, it doesn’t mean Jimmy’s work is better and of a quality. Is Jimmy working harder and not smarter? If Jimmy found a way to work smarter and less and he didn’t get paid by the hour, wouldn’t he find ways to make his job and life a little bit easier and find ways to work less?! What kind of a stupid title and stupid question this is?! So stupid!

Many students are facing overwhelming stress from the heavy load of schoolwork, and it’s understandable that they’re feeling burnt out. When parents add extra assignments on top of everything, it can lead to exhaustion and leave little room for relaxation or socializing with friends, which are so important during these formative years. The pressure to excel and be at the top can feel suffocating, especially when it seems like that’s all that matters. It’s important to remember that life is too precious to be consumed by academic stress alone. Many young people long to explore their own dreams and aspirations, but some parents may unintentionally impose their own desires, making it difficult for their kids to envision their own careers and passions. It’s vital for both students and parents to find a balance that fosters growth, happiness, and personal fulfillment.
