I am in Winston-Salem, North Carolina just for your notes. Looks like folks listen from so many places! Satisfying sense of unity in such amazing times--lovers of this music.
Very, very nice! Sitting here with a glass of wine & my cat on Christmas eve - and this music is making our evening so mellow and pleasant. Thanks Brent!!
This is beautiful! For anyone who wants to know, I think the first song is called 'Codail A Linbh,' the second song is 'Beati Quorum Via,' and the third song is 'Maria Matrem Virginem.'
It's not Dante's Prayer, but The St. Petersburg Chamber Choir, led by Nikolai Korniev. Loreena first enjoyed their work via the CD A Russian Easter (Philips), and their performance on “Dante’s Prayer” is an excerpt from “Alleluia, Behold The Bridegroom”, which you can also find on A Russian Easter.
Loreena McKennitt is where I first heard it. I bought Russian Easter and that's where it was sourced for this playlist. I didn't post a song list, and I don't think anybody commented that they thought it was Dante's prayer. I'm just curious about the comment.
Explore you tube under sacred choral music, modern and historical. European liturgical music but also look up the Russian stuff too like Rachmaninoff or Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, There's tons of stuff out there. CBC radio 2 has a website with archived concerts for free, you could fish around there. Glad you enjoyed the playlist.
PAUL GIULIANI A modern Irish vocal ensemble called "Anúna " does Celtic style crossover/sacred choral found early in this selection. Try also the Hilliard ensemble (not on this selection), particularly an album they did with Saxophonist Jan Gabarek. There's a track to sail away on... ruclips.net/video/kMbaVenF4Ug/видео.html
+trombettaio I lost the notes for this long ago. Sorry, all I have is a file with numbers for tracks. Early cd burners didn't read the titles and this was a mix I made back in the olden days. I'm pretty sure they are both by a vocal ensemble called Anuna but I don't know if they wrote the pieces. The second track is called Integra both are on an album called Omnis. I think.
Thanks for the link, Brent, a wonderful version of the piece. We listen to your "A Choral Christmas" mix every year - it's a lovely addition to our Christmas.
It's currently April and I can't get enough of this playlist - looking forward to times of kindness and generosity again. Many thanks Brent.
Thanks! I'm sure Easter makes a good excuse as any!
Brent: I cannot get enough. Playing it repeatedly. Thank you for sharing with all!
Nice to hear that! Glad you're enjoying it.
