They went from Longyearbyen (Lyb) to Svea in the island Spitzbergen in Svalbard. There is no road between Lyb and Svea and the harbour is frozen in winter. In my time ther the used the Cat D11 to push coal to a flattbedfeader on Kapp Amsterdam when it was boat loading. The load was coal from the mighty Svea Nord mine and the boats where PanMax boats. Today they are tearing down Svea and bring the whole place "back to nature"

@@bobrown1970 interesting 🤔. Thanks for your reply!. They use large dozers in Pennsylvania coal strip mines.. but was wondering why there? I understand now. Thanks!
You’re be surprised at how quickly you lose traction in snow. That steel will slide in a hurry... especially side hilling. I’ve gone on many fun rides downhill. 😂
I never heard that it was any problem with the undercarrige on these Cat machines, they are realy something for themself. It is no road between Longyearbyen and Svea so in winter they used bulldozers the bring goods and equipment between Lyb and Svea ca 55 km. They used D7 and D8 for this missions, when it was heavy loads they used one dozer in front of a big sledge and one in the back, this was an impressive sight. The men who had the job were quite impressive also. The weather on Svalbard is usually real terrible, if you look you see that it is no vegetation and trees so the wind was out of this world. On the way down to Svea, last part of the trip you have to travel down a glazier where everything could happend and happend. I remember back in winter 2004 it was day after day with blizzard and in the end an Hägglunds BV206 arrived in Svea and that trip back to Longyearbyen was out of this world, anyway in the middle of nowhere av big sledge was left in the middle of "the road". The bulldozer crew had to abandon it due to the weather, so imagine when a D7 and D8 have to give up due to a blizzard.

How long do the tracks last

With the snow the tracks and sprockets and rolls were well lubed and the finals probably ran cool.
Believe it or not snow will wear the heck out of an undercarriage

Amazing.. Big trucktor and strongly 🦾🦾
why are they driving around there? What is their destination?
Svea, which seems to be a very small settlement that needs a hole dug.
I been to Svalbard in winter.
The point of this exercise being? 🤔
Hardly worth the cost to dismantle, and where are the roads anyway? Look up Svea on google, and maybe the answer has something to do with coal?
Where is this? Which mountain ranges?
Svalbard->Spitsbergen->Nordenskjöld land on the winter road between Longyearbyen and Svea. Northermost settlement in the world at 78 degrees north.

Pero la pregunta del millón 👉🏻para donde van esas máquinas y por que borraron las huellas ?🤔
WOW SNOW
I LIKE SNOW
And what did the D11 do?
Demolish old cole mine
What else do D11s do? PUSH THINGS... AND PUSH THINGS VERY WELL. 😂
I know a few companies that will fire an operator for running an 11 in 3rd gear. 😂
Why?
@@irazu2008 wears an undercarriage out far quicker. 2nd gear is plenty fast
Track chains and roller aren’t expensive in the scheme of things. Stress less and get something done
It's there for a reason.

What a great way to run in a cat

What job are you doing in the frozen wasteland with a D11
They gone demolish an old coal mine with its structures far away out in the wilderness on Svalbard.
