  • As we all know, the Toronto Blue Jays are Canada's team! For Canada Day, we asked them...can you tell us what these popular Canadian things are?

My favourite Canadian slang story: My work group went to a Blue Jays game and we were in the front row of the 200s. One of our colleagues was continuously berating the other team's left fielder (not sure who, it was White Sox in 2012). A few weeks later, some of us went to Philadelphia also for work and we were telling some of our US-based colleagues about how our one colleague was endlessly chirping the left fielder. Our US friends had NO IDEA what we meant by chirp; they thought he was making bird noises, because blue jays are birds and birds chirp. We had to explain that chirping meant trash-talking usually in the context of sports.

I'm struggling to believe a large percentage of the Blue Jays team haven't ever even acquired, let alone spent a Loonie or Toonie.
These are entertaining regardless. Also, get poor Gausman a Nanaimo bar, the man loves sweets for crying out loud!

@@TheSmithhhz As someone who despises cash, I get your point. I still think it comes up a lot in Canada, it's like enshrined into our lingo to talk about it somewhere.
I still gotta think by talking about all the times they come to Canada and talk about the "great food" and places to go, they would have had to spend some money somewhere and come across the lingo.
I guess I was expecting like one or two of them to not know, but for like 80% of them in the vid to think they're cartoons (which is a great answer btw) was a bit surprising to me.
