Another nice video. Instead of cutting it in half, consider cutting out the belly. Since you have an air compressor for your blaster, you may want to look in to air powered tools. A mini die grinder that takes 1/8" bits is very handy. You can get a large variety of bits for them and they cut the metal pretty fast. You can get inexpensive air grinders on Ebay. The really cheap ones are hit and miss. Sometimes they are good but sometimes they aren't centered and vibrate. I started spending around $75-%120 and have had pretty good luck. Always get the extended warranty. Regarding vents, you may not need as many small ones or any on the toes. Try skipping one. If it still works then skip others. It will save time if they aren't needed. If just the one you skipped doesn't turn out you just have to fix the one. If it works, you'll have confidence in "not" adding the vent. Just so you know, I've cast well over 2000 bronzes since 1982. When I started I knew absolutely nothing and I'm still learning.
very nice work! You might want to get a (2nd-hand, don't buy new, waste of money) Foredom-like flexshaft handpiece+motor. That's way easier to handle (and less loud) than a dremel. Greetings from Holland
to light your furnace light some twisted up newspaper on fire first, place it in the furnace and then turn on the gas. The newspaper will simply burn up after the furnace is lit and the whole process is much less dangerous
Great video! - Just a little tip - maybe you need to scale your piece up in size so your not chasing tiny little details - a bigger piece would give you more flexibility and be easier to work with. Still a nice job...
Can you tell me about the plaster you use to pour over the wax model - it gets subjected to intense heat during burnout and casting, and then dissolves in water ( I assume that's water) is this normal plaster of Paris or a specific kind of plaster? Thanks, I like your style.
The investment plaster I use is called “Ultravest”. I get it from a company in New Mexico USA. I’m not sure what is available outside of the states though.
You can. It’s just harder. You have to be sure to vent any air pockets that might be left behind. And make sure you are using a flexible rubber so it won’t distort the wax when it’s pulled out of the mold.
Heat up your silicone mould before pouring wax inside. It Will help with air bubbles.
The boys love watching your videos. Eli can’t believe you can sculpt it to look so life like.

I plan on making some bigger pieces but the size of limited to the size of bronze I can pour.

It’s a special plaster. It’s called investment. I use “Ultravest from Rio Grande jewelry supply.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonderful excellent job,
My question is ... what is the first hot mixture that you put in the lion mold?
Microcrystalline wax. I later melt it all out and it leaves a void the exact shape of the lion. Then I fill that void with metal.
thank u
love your videos. What kind of wax did you used? Do you have a special blend of waxes?
It’s called micro crystalline wax. I buy it from a local foundry in Minneapolis.
Nice
👍👍👍
Do you need to add pins (Chapets) to hold the core in place?
I didn’t with this because the core was attached solid enough. But one or two wouldn’t hurt.
That wax Is it that same material for candles light?
No. The wax for candles is paraffin wax. This is microcrystalline wax. It burns out a little bit cleaner and gives a better surface finish.
Hi, what materiales you use for the investment?
Am from Algeria can i find the special plaster Wich you used Easley ?
The investment plaster I use is called “Ultravest”. I get it from a company in New Mexico USA. I’m not sure what is available outside of the states though.
What kind of plaster do you use?
It’s not plaster. It’s “investment”. It’s like a plaster but made to withstand the heat. I use Ultravest from Rio Grande jewelry supply.
@@lundgrenbronzestudios thanks 😊
Can you mold the sculpture that is mouth-opened?
You can. It’s just harder. You have to be sure to vent any air pockets that might be left behind. And make sure you are using a flexible rubber so it won’t distort the wax when it’s pulled out of the mold.
@@lundgrenbronzestudiosThanks! But… maybe you could do a tutorial ?😂
Do you have a burin tool?
I do not, what is a burin tool?
@@lundgrenbronzestudios it’s a carving tool that’s used in the makings of the bills and it was used by the Greeks for detail work on sculptures
