      [THE-SUPREME-EMPEROR] agreed. Bird was PF at heart, but with McHale he saw someone that would be great. That’s what makes Bird so great imo, he didn’t care about his personal stats. He’s probably the greatest team player ever

      Kevbot As a Small Forward, Bird lacked speed and perimeter defense, and as a Power Forward, LeBron lacks a post-game.

  • @stephenlnoe
    @stephenlnoe 6 лет назад +19

    Bird is the best all around player all time IMO. In every aspect of the game he excelled and his fundamentals were the best from the first day he entered the league. I believe MJ got a lot of his game from Bird especially when MJ learned how to post up. Bird could play inside, outside, fast break and one on one. All aspects were strong against the best defenders in the league. Bird's sole weak point might have been one on one defense but in team defense he was better than anyone to ever play by getting key steals, blocks and rebounds.
    Let's put it this way,
    I paid to see Bird play and MJ too, neither one of them disappointed and I got my money's worth.

      MJ and Lebron are better all around talents😂. Offensively its a comparison, but defensively, MJ and Lebron are on a different level. Larry Bird was insanely efficient and was skilled in the post and was also a pretty good rebounder in the fast pace that was the 80s. Larry Bird is also a top 10 passer. However Jordan and Lebron were better scorers and defenders. Lebron is almost as good of a passer. And the only reason Bird was such a great rebounder was because of the incredibly fast pace of the 80s. MJ averaged 27+ and 30+ in the playoffs in the slow paced 90s. Lebron also averaged 25+ and 27+ in the playoffs in the slow paced 2000s. All with less help than Bird who had Parish, Mchale, Johnson, Walton, and other all stars.

    • @alecvip7562
      @alecvip7562 2 года назад +1

      @@Krazywillz21 those "all stars", while were good, were nothing without bird. In 1989 when bird was out for all but 6 games, the celtics with all those hall of famers fell from the top all the way to just above average. Larry bird controlled the game so much more than people realized.

    • @alecvip7562
      @alecvip7562 2 года назад

      @@Krazywillz21 my point stands tho. Despite them being in the hall of fame, they were carried heavily by bird. Some years before 1989, when mchale was out with an injury, they barely took a hit from him not being on the team. As far as rebounds goes, larry had to not only share touches with mchale and parish, but also played small forward (which you already mentioned) in a time where players played their position. I won't argue defense, but bird has good defense too. He actually averaged more blocks per game over his career than lebron has. Take that however you'd like. As for the playoffs, I think you should watch the games instead of just looking at the stats. Larry controlled the game far beyond than just points made.

    Greatest clutch player & passer I ever saw. He was an all around player. Injuries, not just to him but his teammates, kept him from winning more championships. I don't know if you can say he was better than Jordan, but I think you was better than Magic. The reason being? Rookie of the year over Magic, averaged more points, more rebounds, a better free-throw and 3-point shooter, a greater clutch player. I honestly think that he was a better passer as well, as great as Magic was at passing. I think he got more out of his team than any other player I've ever seen, he Made Parish and McHale great players, he made every teammate of his better, not to say that Magic Johnson didn't, but I think that Magic had more help, he had Kareem. As far as Jordan? The greatest individual player I ever saw, not the greatest team player however. All of that has to be considered, not just ability. Bird if definitely underrated , maybe is too dificult to say that he is better tha MJ, Russell or Kareem, but he is better than Magic, in my opinion, i mean, the only difference between them is that Magic wins more championships, but if you see the Showtime Lakers were too dominant because they always had a superteam, c'mon man the second best player in the team was Kareem, maybe
    the top 5 players in the history of the game, if you see the second best player from the Celtics was Parish or McHale. Bird demostrated to the NBA and the world that you dont need to be the best athlete in the league to dominate the league, you just need the fundamentals and the hard work, something that differences him to the others great player as Jordan, Russell, Lebron or Chamberlain in their respectives eras.

      @shermanrobinson1178 6 лет назад

      Marcos Martínez Bird was not better than Magic. Other than shooting there wasnt much of anything Bird was better at than Magic. And Magics last few seasons he was 40 % from 3, so even that changed. He was a better passer, a phenomenal rebounder, better driver though Bird could himself, and won more championships. Also dont make it seem like Birds team wasnt stacked as well. They had several hall of famers on their team.

    • @eddiebowles7903
      @eddiebowles7903 6 лет назад +1

      Sherman Robinson, for who was better at what:
      Scoring = Bird
      Rebounding = Bird
      Defense = Bird
      Passing = Magic
      Clutch = About even
      Longevity = Even they both had 10 all NBA teams, and 12 years with MVP shares
      Rings are won by entire teams. If rings are your argument then B Russell > Magic and Bird combined.

    • @shermanrobinson1178
      @shermanrobinson1178 6 лет назад

      Eddie Bowles I am so sick of this ring thing. I am talking about players who LED their teams to championships. Mike led his team to 6 championships with 6 Finals Mvps. Bill Russell did not LEAD his team to to those 11. And even if one wanted to say he did, that era was completely different. Back then there was no free agency, and way less fluidity of movement thru teams. The squad you had was the squad you had. So if you won a championship the previous year, you likely were gonna win won again the next. And when you have 8 hall of famers stacked on your team like Bill did, the chances of you ever losing are slim to none. So please stop using that silly Bills got 11 so hes the best argument ploy. It doesnt hold up. As for Larry being a better rebounder, he plays closer to the basket being a small forward. Magic is arguably the best rebounding PG ever. Magics role was different on his team than Birds on his. And having the great Kareem in the middle is definitely gonna take rebounds from your stats. And still Magics rebounding was outstanding. Larry was not a better defender than magic to me. As Magic was able to play center and could dominate all 5 positions, something i never saw from Bird.

    Larry Legend had the best eight year run perhaps in NBA history. Could of won 7 of 8 MVP’s from 1981-88. Won 3 straight from 84 through 86. The other 4 seasons he was runner up. True, his career was cut short. Remember what Pat Reilly said about him and taking the last shot in a game to save his life. MJ was very happy when he retired. Remember kings come and go. Legends live on forever.

    In my opinion, and in the opinion of a lot of his peers, Larry Bird was the best all around player who ever played the game. For me, it puts him right up there in the GOAT conversation with Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, etc. He is hands down the best small forward who ever played the game of basketball(see Michael Jordan's quote regarding that subject), and maybe the best clutch performer ever.

      @@PostDeathPostDeathPostDeath I agree 40 was an exaggeration. However, he would avg more due to the style of game today vs in his era. His avg would increase to at least 27 ppg but more likely 30+. Most experts agree that Bird would be better suited in today's game vs his era. Those avg are career avg. Not single season. It's not delusional to think that he would average mid 30's in his prime in today's style. Just the fact that he would take at least six more 3-pointers per game, if he just hit one third of those he averages 30 per game for his career. That's not far fetched or even remotely close to being delusional. That is almost a guarantee

    Magic Johnson won a championship in his first season, while Larry Bird won one in his second. It's either these two players were that great, or the NBA was less competitive back then. I'd like to think the former because that feat rarely happens for rookies and sophomores today.

    • @wrylyo
      @wrylyo 6 лет назад

      Something worth noting is that the Lakers and Celtics were both surprisingly good already when they drafted their respective players. The Lakers got Magic with the first overall pick only because they had secured that draft spot through some crafty trading in the previous years, so Magic joined a team already had a GOAT tier talent with Kareem. The Celtics got Larry with the 6th overall pick (other teams were hesitant to draft him cause he wanted to play an extra year in college).
      So neither team was as bad as you would normally expect when a GOAT tier player is about to be drafted.

    • @RudieObias
      @RudieObias 6 лет назад

      That's certainly true. NBA teams back then built dynasties through clever trades and draft picks, while today, it's mostly free agency and player collusion.

    I’m a massive Celtics and Bird fan, but I can’t say he’s the GOAT above Jordan. Had he never got injured he could have been though, and I’ll stand by that. He is, however, one of the top 5 greatest players of all time and certainly on the Mount Rushmore of Basketball. (Also, when it comes to Bird vs James I’m of the opinion that Bron’s a better SF all time but Bird’s a better player all time.)

    • @UltimaKombat
      @UltimaKombat 4 года назад

      @Mark Cianfarani Bird was a natural PF who moved to SF because of Kevin McHale's immense talent. LeBron fits the SF mold better, but if you put Larry Bird on a team completely tailored to him, he'd thrive more than Bron would.
