That is a homicidal amount of power for a street sedan. you have to love it
especially when it weighs 500lbs less than a hellcat
@@harrisontabor3335 and can properly go around a race track.
@@harrisontabor3335 lmao hellcat is honestly a joke of a car, that chassis is absolute garbage. its almost criminal that they would put such a drivetrain on a chassis like that, people will die and probably have died because of the lack of handling
@@Mr.Thermistor7228 its really one of the worst platforms to become popular
@@harrisontabor3335 honestly man, like borderline negligent
Shocking how much relaxed (ferocious) power this thing has. Hats off to GM for such an amazing car, and the fact that they put the manual back in after taking it from the previous generation CTS-V. Love the simplicity of the interior, too.
I’d so buy one if I didn’t live out in the country where the roads suck.
Respect for the 6 speed, didn't expect that. 👏🏼
As Daddy Doug said: "The AMG GT and M5 are better cars BUT they don't have a manual" This Quote speaks volumes honestly.
They also cost 2x
@@uncle_salty_3675 exactly, very nice cars but not better
@@uncle_salty_3675they are better
M5 can come in manual?
@@sleepyghost4297Read the original comment.
GM puts out so much performance. Definitely underrated
The gap adjust feature would actually be pretty nifty for folks who are used to manually counting their following distance in seconds. But yeah, in the context of modern adaptive cruise control, gap adjust sets the wrong expectation
Great review as always. Funny how the video ends with a low fuel level light, an accurate representation of the reality living with this car XD
I would never get tired of driving it. Everything is perfect.
Thank you for also mentioning the outside temp in Celsius! Will be helpful for people from outside the US and select Caribbean countries!
Also the CT5-V Blackwing is such a car that no other company provides! A high-horsepower, fun to drive V8-powered sports sedan with an option of an engaging manual transmission! Quite cool actually!
Gonna miss cars like this🍻 to Caddy for making one of the best 4 doors ever made. Also digging the spec you have Toph
I don’t think we will stick with electric. CO2 is not a pollutant
electric is not going to happen. just another liberal pipe dream. it will fail and is already a failure. no one wants it. no one wants anything that is forced on them
@@Amor1990 you're tripping lmfap, we are switching to electric.
😮
@@roboticvenom1935 no chance
this is definitely one of the greatest sedans ever made
I haven’t lusted this much for a car in a while. Oooh boy I love this thing.
I was going to order a Charger Hellcat widebody next year but I’m definitely getting this instead…and it’s because of the 6speed manual. Since my love for the 89-95 Ford Taurus SHOs, a performance 4 door sedan with a 5speed manual, I’ve always searched for my next 4 door fast car. The search ends here. This car is amazing.
At 3:31 Topher says that he has a Honda Civic Hatback that he is "also testing" . With the Type R reveal set for 20th July, I have a sneaky suspicion , that the type r is what he is referring to! Can't wait for that !
The sound and shifts are just perfect
22:56 nice reaction!
A manual like the old days👌🏽
Big like for the manual.👍With V8 it's great to watch! Greetings to You from sunny Croatia!🇭🇷
I’ve come back to this review a few times. That is one hell of a sedan.
This manual version of this is really THE ONE!! omggggg
I love, as in LOVE your video! I am so much looking forward to getting one. Although different, I was wavering between the CT5-V Blackwing, which I most want, and the Mustang Dark Horse, as they both offer V8 and 6-speed. With your video, the Cadillac is the one! I have been driving manual transmission cars for 45 years, so I know how to and love them, but I also love that they finally put the gear indicator on the IP for the manual. (Yes, I know the Mustang has that, just something I thought about for years and now is reality) One more thing I wanted to mention that I do, and did not know that many did, was go from 4th to 6th. I see you do that rather often, as do I. Wow, what a wonderful video! Thank you so much. I cannot get enough of this video.
Being able to shift back jnto 1st at 40mph+ is amazing
If I only had the money!
Thank you for showing - b/c the stores will LITERALLY never have them on the lot for you to test-drive.
Not sure how I’d feel about adaptive cruise control with a manual, but that color combination is spot-on!👍🏻
What's not to like?
@@mitchellsteindler not so much what I wouldn’t like; rather wondering how it works.
@@jasone1290 like any adaptive cruise...? Yeah it'll have a limit for how much it can slow you down but would still be useful.
I have it in a civic si and it works well
@@jasone1290 I wasn't sure about it myself in a manual but I have it now in my Golf R and it's a fantastic thing to have. It'd be pretty hard to buy another daily without it. (wouldn't care if my toys didn't have it)
I just drove this car in Sebring, and I really got to put the power down. All I have to say is if you can buy one go get one because this car is just a unicorn when you combine everything that it is.
22:43 Nice to have such a sporty car for maneuvers like this. Would've sucked having to do that in some entry level eco car. 😂 23:40 Love the sliding action. 😈 This is my fav sports car out of anyy of the modern vehicles. And I'm usually someone that always prefers German sports cars, love me some M3's. Cadillac did someee damn fabulous things right here. This car looks too damn good, sounds amazing, looks like it drives amazing. I reallyy love the nice lil front splitter, and the carbon fiber spoiler. Great stuff. 😌
I saw one of these in person in the green color on black wheel's and it was a sexual experience.
The invisible hand Biden shakes😂😂
Love the manual and power!! What a beast ! Let’s keep gas emissions !!!!!!!
This is probably my favorite car out right now when it comes to daily drivers.
No one does it like Cadillac power and luxury in a complete package
We all know what happened, allegedly of course. You were drifting around that corner and rocketing through second gear and the video just cuts. 😈
This car is absolutely amazing. I am completely biased as 2018 CTS-V owner, but this really is just the pinnacle of sedans. The only thing that bothers me about the CTS-V (other than the 8 speed transmission shudder that I gotta complain to the dealer about) is the redline cutoff (its pretty abusive) and the delay of the manual paddle shift. The shifts are lightning quick but the paddle delay is about .5-1 second. These two things in combination really can be annoying, but if you leave the thing in full automatic it is a near perfect shifting automatic when you are pushing it.
So this car solved that issue by offering a 6 speed and the auto is brand new. But, I am wondering how the new 10 speed auto acts in manual mode with the paddles. In this video, the redline is handling itself much better and not cutting power until the car drops 1-2k RPM like in the previous gen.
I mean other than that what is there to say. A beautiful reliable engine with the amazing reinforced crank of the LS/LT engine line, a great proven 6 speed, the best chassis dynamics in the world and the best suspension in the world all wrapped up with some very distinctive stately but aggressive looks. It is pretty crazy that Caddy ended up in the argument for the best sedan in the world with the CT4 and CT5 BWs when the Germans, rightfully so, dominated the segment for YEARS! It’s disappointing that the race to the bottom cost cutting almost destroyed the brand but enlightening that once given some room GM still has some of the best engineering in the world!
dream car...literally..but all black...all black everything and automatic
Did you think the shorter gearing in the CT4-V Blackwing made it more fun at lower speeds?
Thank God that you can have these cars
jesus christ man that 0-60 was absolutely insane
'He lived!!' 🦡🚘
lol
Was that a cat?
The manual transmission puts this over the top…
I sold my Audi S5 manual (B8.5, Stg2 single pulley, etc) because while I absolutely loved it...the amount of time I could use the power vs the self control needed to stay out of jail, is just too much haha.
I want one of these (CT4V even more) so badly but I can't IMAGINE the self control needed for an extra nearly 200bhp AAAAAAAAANND controlling myself from wanting to hear that V8 music? Impossible, maybe.
Watching you drive this is getting me so hyped! lol stupid amount of power but just sounds amazing. Nice vid
This car leaves me speeches.
I like the idea of adding a foot cam when you do track days. awesome video btw
I sold my V2 in that color combo except it was an auto. I'd probably wouldn't daily one but I'd sure be cruising it on fun trips whenever I wanted. I really do want this one though.
I have a 2018 Honda Civic Si. 12:45 That first gear shift threw me for a loop!!!! I would lose my whole power train shifting to first at that speed let alone any speed that is not 0MPH lol. what a cool car that CT5 is.
Great video! Topher, do you think the carbon ceramic brakes are a must for spirited driving, or are the regular brakes sufficient?
I can't afford one of these now but I look forward to the secondhand market in a decade! Just hope (selfishly) that they don't go UP in price too much...
I wish you could hear the supercharger a little more but still a crazy cool car
I would love to have the opportunity to drive this car for a week, and maybe with 2 passengers, some baggage. And then do the same with the G80 BMW M3 for a week. And same with the F80 BMW M3, then E90 BMW M3. I think those are my 4 favorite sports cars, 4 door, RWD with a manual transmission. 😍 They're all sweet to be honest. The amount of fun you could have driving, and with it being so practical. We are lucky to have such options. 🙂
Some of the roads you were driving on had plenty of cracks and bumps. I'm curious to know whether the ride comfort (in the normal cruise modes) were jolting or actually tolerable. I realize that the MRC is great for smooth tracking, but I refer to the degree of feedback to you on the larger bumps.
I live in MI as well. Just bought a 150k anniversary edition of this model. I wish my driving skill is half as good as yours. 😂
well in my chevy SS sedan, the gap adjust basically is for the settting in HUD. It will show a green car in the HUD if you are following within the parameters of your gap adjust. orange car if you are nearing the limit of the gap adjust, and a red car if you are too close to safely brake. I suppose its intention is alert when you are in normal cruise control. I guess it's better than nothing.
Topher, would you recommend this over the CT4-V, or do they deliver similar fun levels?
Definitely not similar, I have a CT4 V and I can assure you that it is very very different the ct4v back seats are not spacious and the car itself is a little smaller in terms of width, and the V mode isn’t that powerful as the ct5v blackwing because it has 325hp.
@@gamingmasters2995 he eant the ct4v blackwing I think.
From what I've seen Ct4v:BW seems to be recommended because it's a little tighter, smaller, and with the manual it's in the shift ranges. CT5V:BW seems to be better if you need larger back seats or are really somehow using the extra top end regularly/drag racing. Also the 20k+ price difference. Really the Ct4 should be 60k and CT5 be 80k, but GM doesn't want to cannibalize the Corvette.
That's nearly a perfect car.. I really can't think of much more you could really do to get a better vehicle..
What an amazing sedan by Cadillac. But after watching this excellent review, driving this on normal street and highways sucks. All that power that you can't use without getting into some serious trouble. I just realized a slower car with similar engagement would be preferable to own.
That’s my dread car right now. I hope by the time I can afford one there still made them or at least keep the manual ❤❤
Hi Chris, I know it had to be a sad day when you had to say goodbye to the Blackwing!
i love how he admires all the cars he drives🤣🤣
we need to get topher's hands on like an SVJ or something wild like that
This is the the ultimate suicidal family sedan!! New GM products are really nice and not so mediocre.
The question isn't whether or not to buy a Blackwing, the question is which Blackwing?
That twin turbo v6 is mighty enticing too
If money isn't an issue, the v8 for sure. If you want value or can't overspend, the V6 seems like the sweet spot.
honestly, I think it'd been more appropo as a luxury car for it to have been a dct. plus you get the benefit of an automatic if you don't want to mess w/shifting.
No doubt this is totally badass, but I bet I’d enjoy the ct4 better. Still enough power and would feel less huge…..I’d love it if a friend owned one, but not sure I’d find this sustainably interesting
Same thing with the Camaro ZL1, it does feel big but it's a monster
What an awesome car! I think it’s so cool GM ended up making this vehicle. I’ve always liked the V series even going back to the V Wagon. Really bad A$$!!!
I just love watching reviews for this monster. Right now my budget only allows for the Elantra N manual which I’m very pleased with. But I hope to get the manual of this bad boy used in 4 to 6 years. I’m not an expert at depreciation but does anybody have a ballpark figure for what this car might cost used in about 5 years (assuming normal mileage and I could find one)?
Sorry my friend but 6 year old CTS-Vs (this car’s predecessor) are still hovering around $60,000+ for a good example, and they were cheaper when new than this car is now. These Cadillac V series cars don’t depreciate like an AMG or M car, which is astounding. 2 year old CT4-V Blackwings are still selling for roughly the original base MSRP of $60,000 right now, which is in stark contrast to their predecessor the ATS-V which depreciated like a rock out the gate but are stable around $40,000 now.
Wow~ Nice Blackwing !!
Dont press the clutch if youre not going to shift. It creates excessive wear on your pressure plate and throw out bearing. Youll be replacing your clutch and throw out bearing much sooner.
Thanks for the great review, as always. Can you comment a little on your feelings between the CT5 vs CT4 Blackwing? Thanks again!
⁰
Thought it was Miles' ct5v.. Great car!!
The only sedan I want
Man, I loved the 2009 cts v, I love the idea of this one, the rear end is just so not Cadillac to me. I really do kinda want one still though
ur a great driver
You get adaptive cruise control on the automatic
Stick shifts are the best.
I’d definitely take one of these over a Hellcat 💪🏾💯
In order to get the adaptive cruise control, you have to get the auto-tranny. It's not available with the manual.
Seeing a manual in a caddy is amazing 🥲
beautiful american luxury/ performance
Beautiful!
Love the peel outs :)
7:38 were you having some fun earlier ?
hands down im picking this over its foreign competitors
One car solution: Blackwing or RS6 Avant?
I think both are amazing but which makes more sense? I'm leaning RS6
You should test drive a B7 RS4 and compare to this Topher! Obviously a much slower car but could be a nice comparison
Probably not a popular opinion but I would go for the automatic for my super sedan. Effortless thrust and magnetic ride would allow some sport and luxury with my sedan.
I'd save the shifting for sports cars and maybe a muscle car.
A monster like that deserves only manual transmission. You want feel the power; tame the beast!
tbh i would kinda think the same thing, but the 10 speed just doesnt seem like my sorta thing, if it was an 8 speed it would be cool i suppose tho
@@abysswalker2403 Huh? The 10-speed is the world's fastest, claimed 37% (or was it 35?) faster than PDK in gears 1-4. Why would you want the older less capable 8-speed? (Or did I miss the internet sarcasm?)
Same here, I'll take the A10 for the track. I've got other cars including a manual when I have the itch.
They made it easy with the no lift shift and the automatic Rev matching.
Not to be that guy but the paint color is infrared tintcoat not torch red.
Thanks, I was questioning whether that was right as soon as I said it
A tune would bring this to 1000NM torque 😳
this car man 😮💨
Between 2020-2023 GT500 and this, which one?

These new Caddys making me want to get rid of my Bimmer
Which model is your bimmer?
@@christmasisawesome9348 would probably replace my X3 M40i but I do like having extra ground clearance

this is my dream car but over 80 grand!!!!!!!
nice interior!
Beautiful

good price, here in Atlanta Ga I kid you not theyre asking $138k for them
nice opinions...what about IS500 tho?
50% slower, 50% less handling, 100% more reliable
LOL. Absolutely no comparison. The IS has mediocre handling and a slow auto. That engine does sound fantastic though.
You sure that cat lived lol?
I'd get in a lot of trouble with this thing 😍
Can you do a vid on how you downshift. With rev match. Do you hit the throttle before putting it in gear. Or after.
