Blake didn't see Google show up as one of Harvard's multi-billion dollar investments, but that's no reason for us not to imply a baseless conspiracy theory...

Plus John Paulson, the man who benefited the most from the house market crisis by short selling, filled part of that gap with his 400 million dollar gift in 2015.

I don't subscribe to the Morning Brew newsletters but I love these educational/informative style videos on topics which are interesting to people my age (post college young adults). All the hosts are pretty good and I'm sure they will become even better at presenting as the content keeps coming out.

Now I just need to make a billion dollars, so I can give 100 mil to Harvard, so that they will accept my kids, and then pay me back the money to my hedge fund.

Business student at Cornell here, was looking into an endowment manager position when this came up. This has to be one of the most educational things I've seen re: this matter on RUclips, no idea why it doesn't have more views. Thank you for talking about this.

Went to Yale for a while, and a lot of people that need it do not get the money or resources they need there. It’s enough to look good, but once you get there it mostly turns out to be a facade

It's disgusting that they benefit from tax loopholes (like structuring as a non-profit) but then when times are tough, these schools refuse to use the money and instead ask more from poor students in terms of tuition. Even worse for the public schools on that chart. I bet these institutions could operate on their investment profits by now and run tuition-free if they wanted to (which they don't). For public schools, there should be something requiring a use of the endowment interest before they get state taxpayer funds. Otherwise they're harming taxpayers twice: once for the alumni who can write off their donations, then for the colleges that can profit tax-free. Wait, make that thrice, for then the public taxpayer money that public schools get!

It wouldn't be that bad if they dished out the money in scholarships. However, I think this is the future of education. education institutions with a secondary commercial business attached. My school is making a hotel to capture a tourism market. Universities are becoming corporations due to the rise of stem.

Are you wondering how a Flagship State school in Texas has money to play with the elite Ivy league titans? well its because of oil and some socialism. UT benefits form something called the PUF (The Permanent University Fund) basically in the 1870 some forward thinking Texans decided to take land in west Texas to support higher education in the state. Some years later oil was discovered on those lands so the state of Texas leases the land to oil companies and throws some of the profit in to the PUF. The fund was written into the Texas Sate constitution, and at the time only UT and Texas A&M existed so they are the sole beneficiaries, this effectively subsidize these two institutions. Texas A&M receives 1/3 of the fund while UT receives 2/3. Not 100% clear on the reasoning for that split, I have heard that because A&M stands for Agricultural and Mechanical it was treated more like a trade school back in the day and was deemed to need less money. The PUF is the seed fund that gives UT the ability to play in this league.

If they have 50 Billion with them and earn billions every year, they can easily remove tuition and make hardvard free for all students without losing any of this money just from the extra returns earn from market
    Why don't they do this?
