Before beds, the nether, potions, when herobrine was still being referenced in every patchnote and the cobblestone block looked hideous. Good times. Simpler times.

My favorite memory about Minecraft is that summer when my friend had to go overseas to get a surgery, we were like 10. We couldn't meet in person during the whole summer holiday so we checked the timezones and found time periods when we both can be up and called eachother on Skype to play Minecraft. We spent the whole summer together, exploring caves, fighting with monsters, building our house, while being on the opposite sides of the planet.
I did this as well back then with friends!! A friend and I who lived in the same town had a neighbour who played with us in mc over skype as well! But unfortunately he had to move to canada, we used to find time to play together, it was like 4 or 5 am for us whilst for him it was 20 to 21 o clock, we used to wake up super early just ti manage to spend time together. I miss these times, all this, I miss all this. The people I met etc, unforgettable.
But then I had a very good idea. I used F5. See, using F5 gave me a whole new perspective and I was able to see a chest I couldn't have seen before. sorry, had to

Kids right now don't understand the concept of time. They will enjoy playing their favorite video games, make life long friends in those games, thinking it will last forever but we know the truth, we all know what happens in life. Most things don't last forever but a beautiful thing is that those memories we have will shine like gold in our memories.

My dad and I used to play Minecraft often, I always loved building in Creative, and my dad would build red stone powered mine cart tracks. He passed away 3 years ago, and playing Minecraft with him is still one of my most cherished memories.
I lost my father almost 4 years ago now and we did so much together. I modeled my life after his. We were both musicians, digital artist and hobby model kit builders. So much of what i am , he was and i think about not having him all the time. I believe i understand how you feel.

I remember this one cave. this was back in 1.5.4 ish and it was a cool intersection of 4 paths into the large clearing. my cousin and I decided to make our base there. I was brand new and he left me for a few minutes with all the gold. He told me not to use it for anything but I couldnt help myself and I made a helmet. I called it my crown and he got really mad and killed me a few times for it. we had a giggle after that and carried on. I miss those days. Putting him on speaker through the house phone and playing on the family computer. We built a house in the middle of a jungle river on another world. I remember that house. We had a water floor to look down and it was the coolest thing in my head. I remember we once both fell into a 1x1 hole and couldnt dig our way out without killing one of us. we screamed at each other over who would die and I won. but then he just left me in the hole lol. great times. I remember building so many towns and markets in the empty fields of the superflat worlds... I remember being a kid. and I remember being happy. now im 21. got a job and apartment. life isnt so bad and I just started playing again with my friends. and I think i have a little bit of that joy again.

This was wayy back in 2014 like a week after 1.8 released, and my dad wouldn't by my brother and I the full version at first so we just played the demo over and over again. We had no idea how crafting worked, so just spent hours building a fort on the little island close to spawn out of dirt and sand lol. Good times..

Cancer, and I remember that he he was in a terminal condition, with only a few months to live according to the doctor, but what were just months became 3 years, which he resisted, until in 2017... He died, the family He came to talk to me on his WhatsApp, and when I heard it I went into crisis, I cried... I’m 28 and my friend and I played this recently and it was crazy checking out all of our old builds. It was also sad to see our shared map with another friend who cut us out of his life. Seeing the stuff he built and remembering how the three of us were inseparable at the time. I thought we’d be the 3 amigos for life. That’s how life is. A lot of my childhood friends have just kind of faded away. Sometimes it was a falling out, but others it’s just been, mutual? They naturally start hanging out with others and I naturally start doing other things. Then you wake up 3 years later and realize you haven’t spoken in years…

Felt like home. Like happy. It was the escape you had for your childish problems. And where your brain was able to run free. Where you copied minecraft lets plays of your favorite creators that you watch periodically. You learned how to make torches…then furnaces…soon you had found your first village! Your first cat! Your first…bed. You furnished your underground burrow of fear that you kept out of love. Put up rugs and changed the floors. It seemed like every day you woke up that there was something new to learn. Some exciting discovery. And you could feel yourself begin to slip. Pull away from earth filled pockets. From hiding in the dark. From closing up your ‘doors’ each night. It wasn’t the same. It could never be again. You kept progressing and year after year your horizons broadened. Everything was easy for you now. You made world after world, hoping to find something new…and never did. Updates came and went and everything moved all too quickly. And now you’re here. Listening to that song you heard on the first night. That night in the hole with the dirt clutched tightly. Your breath hitched in your throat as you watched the screen expectantly. Then the sun came up. The noises went away. You realized you had a second chance. That song. That you listen to now. The memories of a time long past, your life as short as it is. It feels like forever ago. Why couldn’t it last? Why couldn’t you stay in that comforting pocket? Why couldn’t you be young with the world so vivid in color and music and life? You ache for the void within yourself to be filled but it never is. It’s more than just a game. It’s a feeling. It’s home.

I can’t see my dog ever again my first world was on my iPad when I was 8 and I played that world only but after moving 5 times in the past 3 years my iPad has gone just as many other things did I held on to that iPad because I knew it incased so many memories of what I grew up on and it makes me sad that I’ll never be able to see what I had built ever again or relive those moments but it’s ok I think
i remember i played minecraft on the 360 and the old versions were on there. i remember playing that and playing everything still on the old versions not even realizing that netherite, end cities, and so much more shit was on the versions that were out at the time. my family was broke as fuck so it was the only thing me and my sister played. lowkey was the best time in my life, but that 360 is probably lost in a storage unit, or the game disc is lost in a storage unit.

As I’m writing this I’m 19, I look back and realize how much time flies as you get older and how much you change as a person. I remember getting an Xbox for Christmas in 5th grade. I would always hop on and play different types of games with my friends. Over time we’ve just grown apart and I started playing less. Got into a bunch of different hobbies as I got older. Every time I would hop on a game like Minecraft or something else, it would take me back to those fun times I had with my friends. I’ve learned to enjoy every moment of your life while you can, because the sad truth is that you can never go back. You can only move forward. I remember my first minecraft world, wandering around the world in peaceful mode because I was scared of zombies. I traveled for days, until I found a village and I remember in that moment, everything changed. My cousin came for a visit and she explained me many basic things, like crafting or making bread. I remember making vanilla servers with my brother, we didn't know anything about the game, I just played and, honestly, I had fun by walking around with my brother. I remember my classmates and "friends" playing things like clash royal or just hang out, while I was playing minecraft, I remember being bullied because of it one time. One of the most beautiful childhood I could have ever asked for.
This makes me want to cry because i don't really remember anything from my childhood, but certain sounds or scents will just cause the memories to come back and then i realize how much better things were then.

I’m a senior in high school now, about to go to college. Every winter break since 7th grade I’ve hosted a Minecraft server for my friends and I. It has kinda become a major tradition for us at this point. These servers have been the highlight of the last few years for us and seeing these screenshots and this music now, at 2:30AM, I’m crying as I realize it’s all over. Usually when I close the server as break ends, everyone’s sad because they genuinely enjoy playing on it, but there’s always excitement for “next year.” But this time, there is no “next year.” To think that the discord server we spent hundreds of hours on over the years will have its last message sent before Christmas next year is heartbreaking for me. It hurts to know that I’ll lose touch with these people I’ve made so many memories with as we go out separate ways. It hurts to know that I won’t be pulling any more all nighters to drain an ocean monument. It hurts to know that there won’t be any more 20 person discord calls during the launch of the server. It hurts to know that it’s all over. Growing up is hard. You don’t realize it in the moment, but something so simple and small, can create life lasting memories. It’s true what they say, you never know how much you love something until it’s gone forever.
It doesn't have to be the end. Maybe not everyone will return, but you can still run the server at the same time and catch up with friends that show up. It could become an annual reconnection to catch up with everyone. But, even if not, you still have the memories. That might be enough.

i remember going to my dads house and playing minecraft for the 360 all day. At the time i didnt think things would ever change and i loved the moments where my dad would come into my room with something he cooked up to see my reaction to it or the late nights sneaking into the kitchen to grab drinks just to come back and play more. My buddy James and I would play this game forever together when he lived around me when I was still 8-10. Best years I had with him. We’d explore and build for hours together, his room in my castle on the 360 is still there, along with everything we made. His dog patiently waits for him to come back. I see that sign that says James’ room and I well up just a bit, I want my buddy to come back and just play one more game with me and build something we’d never forget again. It's so interesting to see the effect this game has had on our generation, how a simple game can be so nostalgic for so many people. But i guess we all did grow up playing it...
My siblings and I made a 2-story dirt house on our very first playthrough in the first tutorial map on Ps3. For months, we didn't know how to continue the story mode (We had to make Charcoal and didn't know how), so we were stuck in that small area at the bottom of the tutorial stairs. Due to the lack of materials, almost EVERYTHING was made of dirt with the exception of a glass hallway that extended out of the 2nd story. We'd collect materials from mobs that'd spawn, made a farm, and got very excited and alert whenever night time rolled around. We actually learned a lot by experimenting. For months we were ignorant of the vast world that was beyond the invisible tutorial world, and the fact that there was stronger armor besides leather, and stronger/more effective tools than wooden tools. Years have passed since then and we've built many huge, detailed, and creative buildings, but absolutely *nothing* beats that first sorry excuse for a first base. An ugly 2 story pile of wood, dirt, and glass. Our first home.
Its hard accepting we will never go back, but thats ok. Those times have passed but these memories wont for many years to come. So we need to remember those amazing nights sitting up late with our friends, playing minigames, looking for herobrine, but we also need to understand that the present holds just as much potential. We have to continue to live in the moment like we did back then, to make even more amazing memories. Sadly, we will never go back to those days, but we also have many more days to come that we can look forward to.
One day when I was at my friends house, she was fighting with her sister so loud. It was a sleepover, I just wanted to calm down and have a nice time. She was abusive, to both her sisters and me. I turned on the first thing I saw. It was Minecraft. I just stayed on the screen while silent tears rolled down my face, lying on the cold floor. It brought me a sense of peace, for a time. It has been one year. Shes been gone for one year. I have so much pain from her, but so many friends to help me on my journey. I'm grateful for everything that's happened to me. Perhaps it is the feeling of existing only as what you were as a memory. It is sad, don’t you think? Never knowing what you could be capable of. Never having the opportunity to try, at least. How could you describe such a feeling with one word? How can you do justice the loss of our history, our… friendship? Well, it’s hard to say. Maybe you can’t, maybe not with words. But we can try. insane how time works. I remember 11 year old me, rushing to my computer the minute my break started to play with my friends or my brother. now I’m 16, and looking back, i don’t regret a single minute of that. people that say it’s “just a game” don’t really know what they’re talking about. im forever grateful for this game and the memories I’ve made on it, and it warms my heart to see others sharing this in the comments
The worst part is when you try to go back an reminisce. You can't, can you? You can't go back with old friends that you've lost, you can't go back to the feeling of happiness and purity, nothing. Usually when I hear people talk about nostalgia, they talk about it like it’s a good thing, but deliberately nostalgic things like this almost always just make me sad. With that being said, I’m glad so many people can connect with remembering peacefully building a house with their friends as kids

My first Minecraft experience was with my friends, we created a server that we played on every day for hours. We had so much fun. One day a bunch of random people found out the IP to the server. They all join. I tried to stop them, but the grieved everything. Now we join on sometimes every now and then and look at all we built and how it all got destroyed. Our memories were never destroyed.
Now at 03:43 I came once again to realize how happy I was until before I was 11 years old, after that, a lot of things changed, I changed, everyone around me changed, even if a fraction of what I was remains, it's not the same thing, Minecraft was my favorite game for years, I was always a lonely child so I usually played alone, except a few times when I went to play with my cousin, these memories and so many others that make this game so special to me, every the nostalgia that this game left behind a big void in me, because I know it will never be the same, even if I play today, it will never be the same as 7 years ago (i'm really sorry for the mistakes, I'm Brazilian and I'm not fluent)

My favorite memory about Minecraft is that summer when my friend had to go overseas to get a surgery, we were like 10. We couldn't meet in person during the whole summer holiday so we checked the timezones and found time periods when we both can be up and called eachother on Skype to play Minecraft. We spent the whole summer together, exploring caves, fighting with monsters, building our house, while being on the opposite sides of the planet.

But unfortunately he had to move to canada, we used to find time to play together, it was like 4 or 5 am for us whilst for him it was 20 to 21 o clock, we used to wake up super early just ti manage to spend time together. I've always wondered what happened to those people that never logged on again for over a decade
My dad and I used to play Minecraft often, I always loved building in Creative, and my dad would build red stone powered mine cart tracks. He passed away 3 years ago, and playing Minecraft with him is still one of my most cherished memories.
I lost my father almost 4 years ago now and we did so much together. I modeled my life after his. We were both musicians, digital artist and hobby model kit builders. So much of what i am , he was and i think about not having him all the time. I believe i understand how you feel.

I remember this one cave. this was back in 1.5.4 ish and it was a cool intersection of 4 paths into the large clearing. my cousin and I decided to make our base there. I was brand new and he left me for a few minutes with all the gold. He told me not to use it for anything but I couldnt help myself and I made a helmet. I called it my crown and he got really mad and killed me a few times for it. we had a giggle after that and carried on. I miss those days. Putting him on speaker through the house phone and playing on the family computer.
We built a house in the middle of a jungle river on another world. I remember that house. We had a water floor to look down and it was the coolest thing in my head. I remember we once both fell into a 1x1 hole and couldnt dig our way out without killing one of us. we screamed at each other over who would die and I won. but then he just left me in the hole lol. great times.
I remember building so many towns and markets in the empty fields of the superflat worlds... I remember being a kid. and I remember being happy.
now im 21. got a job and apartment. life isnt so bad and I just started playing again with my friends. and I think i have a little bit of that joy again.

This was wayy back in 2014 like a week after 1.8 released, and my dad wouldn't by my brother and I the full version at first so we just played the demo over and over again. We had no idea how crafting worked, so just spent hours building a fort on the little island close to spawn out of dirt and sand lol. Good times..

We created a huge bond, I used the translator and learned English to speak to him better, the problem he had... Cancer, and I remember that he he was in a terminal condition, with only a few months to live according to the doctor, but what were just months became 3 years, which he resisted, until in 2017... He died, the family He came to talk to me on his WhatsApp, and when I heard it I went into crisis, I cried... i remember i played minecraft on the 360 and the old versions were on there. i remember playing that and playing everything still on the old versions not even realizing that netherite, end cities, and so much more shit was on the versions that were out at the time. my family was broke as fuck so it was the only thing me and my sister played. lowkey was the best time in my life, but that 360 is probably lost in a storage unit, or the game disc is lost in a storage unit.

As I’m writing this I’m 19, I look back and realize how much time flies as you get older and how much you change as a person. I remember getting an Xbox for Christmas in 5th grade. I would always hop on and play different types of games with my friends. Over time we’ve just grown apart and I started playing less. Got into a bunch of different hobbies as I got older. Every time I would hop on a game like Minecraft or something else, it would take me back to those fun times I had with my friends. I’ve learned to enjoy every moment of your life while you can, because the sad truth is that you can never go back. You can only move forward. I’m a senior in high school now, about to go to college. Every winter break since 7th grade I’ve hosted a Minecraft server for my friends and I. It has kinda become a major tradition for us at this point. These servers have been the highlight of the last few years for us and seeing these screenshots and this music now, at 2:30AM, I’m crying as I realize it’s all over. Usually when I close the server as break ends, everyone’s sad because they genuinely enjoy playing on it, but there’s always excitement for “next year.” But this time, there is no “next year.” To think that the discord server we spent hundreds of hours on over the years will have its last message sent before Christmas next year is heartbreaking for me. It hurts to know that I’ll lose touch with these people I’ve made so many memories with as we go out separate ways. It hurts to know that I won’t be pulling any more all nighters to drain an ocean monument. It hurts to know that there won’t be any more 20 person discord calls during the launch of the server. It hurts to know that it’s all over. Growing up is hard. You don’t realize it in the moment, but something so simple and small, can create life lasting memories. It’s true what they say, you never know how much you love something until it’s gone forever.

This comment is exactly my experience with hosting servers with friends. You hit every nail on the head.
It doesn't have to be the end. Maybe not everyone will return, but you can still run the server at the same time and catch up with friends that show up. It could become an annual reconnection to catch up with everyone. But, even if not, you still have the memories. That might be enough.

i remember going to my dads house and playing minecraft for the 360 all day. At the time i didnt think things would ever change and i loved the moments where my dad would come into my room with something he cooked up to see my reaction to it or the late nights sneaking into the kitchen to grab drinks just to come back and play more. Now years later ive greatly missed all those weekends and whole-heartedly wish i could go back

My buddy James and I would play this game forever together when he lived around me when I was still 8-10. Best years I had with him.
We’d explore and build for hours together, his room in my castle on the 360 is still there, along with everything we made. His dog patiently waits for him to come back. I see that sign that says James’ room and I well up just a bit, I want my buddy to come back and just play one more game with me and build something we’d never forget again. It's so interesting to see the effect this game has had on our generation, how a simple game can be so nostalgic for so many people. But i guess we all did grow up playing it...
This video felt like it was only 20 seconds, and yet also felt like the last 15 years of my life.
Despite the hardships of life, laying down and remembering the fun your childhood was is the best part of any day.
My siblings and I made a 2-story dirt house on our very first playthrough in the first tutorial map on Ps3.
For months, we didn't know how to continue the story mode (We had to make Charcoal and didn't know how), so we were stuck in that small area at the bottom of the tutorial stairs. Due to the lack of materials, almost EVERYTHING was made of dirt with the exception of a glass hallway that extended out of the 2nd story. We'd collect materials from mobs that'd spawn, made a farm, and got very excited and alert whenever night time rolled around. We actually learned a lot by experimenting. For months we were ignorant of the vast world that was beyond the invisible tutorial world, and the fact that there was stronger armor besides leather, and stronger/more effective tools than wooden tools. Years have passed since then and we've built many huge, detailed, and creative buildings, but absolutely *nothing* beats that first sorry excuse for a first base. An ugly 2 story pile of wood, dirt, and glass. Our first home.
Its hard accepting we will never go back, but thats ok. Those times have passed but these memories wont for many years to come. So we need to remember those amazing nights sitting up late with our friends, playing minigames, looking for herobrine, but we also need to understand that the present holds just as much potential. We have to continue to live in the moment like we did back then, to make even more amazing memories. Sadly, we will never go back to those days, but we also have many more days to come that we can look forward to.

One day when I was at my friends house, she was fighting with her sister so loud. It was a sleepover, I just wanted to calm down and have a nice time. She was abusive, to both her sisters and me. I turned on the first thing I saw. It was Minecraft. I just stayed on the screen while silent tears rolled down my face, lying on the cold floor. It brought me a sense of peace, for a time.
It has been one year. Shes been gone for one year. I have so much pain from her, but so many friends to help me on my journey. I'm grateful for everything that's happened to me. Especially c418's music, that calmed many raging storms in my mind. Thank you for making this video, it reminded me to be thankful for what I have... :)

I remember 11 year old me, rushing to my computer the minute my break started to play with my friends or my brother. now I’m 16, and looking back, i don’t regret a single minute of that. people that say it’s “just a game” don’t really know what they’re talking about. im forever grateful for this game and the memories I’ve made on it, and it warms my heart to see others sharing this in the comments

Usually when I hear people talk about nostalgia, they talk about it like it’s a good thing, but deliberately nostalgic things like this almost always just make me sad.

We all grow up and have our own lives, our own paths, but here we are. The same childhood memories.
Make yourself proud.
My first Minecraft experience was with my friends, we created a server that we played on every day for hours. We had so much fun. One day a bunch of random people found out the IP to the server. They all join. I tried to stop them, but the grieved everything. Now we join on sometimes every now and then and look at all we built and how it all got destroyed. Our memories were never destroyed.

Now at 03:43 I came once again to realize how happy I was until before I was 11 years old, after that, a lot of things changed, I changed, everyone around me changed, even if a fraction of what I was remains, it's not the same thing, Minecraft was my favorite game for years, I was always a lonely child so I usually played alone, except a few times when I went to play with my cousin, these memories and so many others that make this game so special to me, every the nostalgia that this game left behind a big void in me, because I know it will never be the same, even if I play today, it will never be the same as 7 years ago (i'm really sorry for the mistakes, I'm Brazilian and I'm not fluent)

Even if the worst part of nostalgia is realizing you can never go back, I think the best part, the best part is being blessed with these memories.
