What an absolutely imperious performance. Jamaal Lascelles deserves an incredible amount of praise stepping in for Botman. The fact we have so many injuries and can still go and command a match in this way is just pure magic. A match and result we’ll be talking about for years in the NE.

I am a Newcastle fan and I feel like nobody outside our fanbase really understands us, because they don't want to take the time to understand what Howe and the owners are about. We've been making jaws hit the floor in the UK for 2 years now and all we're seeing is European fans doing the same - AC Milan dismissed us, PSG didn't even think we were capable of this (or else they wouldn't have played 4-2-4) and if Dortmund don't switch on, then they're getting it too. People keep thinking "Oh, surely the big money signings are coming, Oh, surely this is just Oil money, Oh, if Newcastle want to do anything like CITEH, they have to do it THIS way..." And none of it really applies. It's cognitive dissonance - when you don't understand how something is happening, you search for comforting explanations and stereotypes, like "Hey, let's put the fat belly NUFC man up again! Hey, let's make some Greggs jokes! Hey, remember when you punched horses?" Yes, the crowd was immense but it always is and the crowd alone doesn't score 4 goals against a £1Bn top-class side. That's fitness and skill and tactics, all day and all night. And people keep looking past us and put it down to a "fairytale". Because then it can be filed under F for Fluke. There is nothing flukey about this - we're not in the CL by accident! We got there because our manager is committed to continuous improvement and he's lifted up players who were being wasted and unlocked their potential, whilst he also brought in players who are just as committed to that vision. The club is absolutely united and the sky is the limit. And finally, let me kill the toxic gaslighting suggestion that we're "deluded" and that we think we somehow "deserve" this. No! That's the Liverpool fanbase you're thinking of- the air of entitlement and privilege. That's the Man Utd fanbase you're thinking of - living off past glories. That's the big London clubs you're thinking of - buying, buying, buying and SCREW FFP. And because we wanted a team that TRIES to be what we knew they could be, then "how dare we"(!) We got here by pulling ourselves up, so we're despised by the Cartel, because we've eaten their fourth gravy-train spot. And then we go and do this. Massacre PSG 4-1. Something that they dream about themselves. I have been following this club for 44 years and I have never been more proud of this club and my city and I don't care what anyone tries to tell me about NUFC. HWTL

Mate beautifully said - but you wrong about one thing - there are zillions of people OUTSIDE your fanbase that are in awe of what the new owners and Eddie Howe have achieved - and we do 'Get It'. Yes there are a few in the media and the usual mindless trolls that whip out crap statements - but they are definitely in the minority. As a Bournemouth fan I knew exactly what you were getting with Eddie - and now I too am in love with all things Newcastle - especially the fanbase.
I have also been watching loads of youtube reaction after that game and there is a massive amount of complimentary comments from opposition fans. You need to know that Newcastle are a lot of people's second favourite team (to their own) and just ignore the haters - otherwise you are just as blinkered as they are if you have an 'us against the rest' mentality. Mbappe, Dembele and a few others didn’t have a bead of sweat on them. There’s no excuse for losing 4-1 and not working your arse off.

Still reeling from last night, it was one of those moments in your life you know you will never ever forget. “Where were you when toon smashed PSG.” It makes you proud to be a Geordie. I wrote my thought down and realised the team play like the culture of working class geordies. Passion, character and unrelenting work ethic. Newcastle won because every player on the pitch works for every other player on the pitch. PSG lost because everyone of their players play for themselves. Longstaff had no right scoring that goal, he just wasn’t tracked. The nearest player too him had a body language of “someone else’s get him” which sums up their night. Gordon tracked back to get my apple to conced a foul in newcastles box - sums up our night. Great night for the North East and will never forget it.

Midfield was the key today, bruno brilliant in the first half (although lucky not to be sent off for punching the bloke), Longstaff and Tonali excellent in both, still think Tonali needs calm down when he does so well to win the ball back but in a game like this it was so valuable, the ability to run, at pace, to win the ball back. I've never had the pleasure to witness Newcastle in the champions league as the last time we were in the competition I was just 3 years old but from tonight's game all I have is pride and to have two Geordies score makes it that much better. I only wish I could have been there in person.

I loved this. I'm a Watford fan but Newcastle have always been my second team, my cousin supported them and Alan Shearer made me want to play football!
This team is way ahead of schedule. Still full of players that were there under Steve Bruce.
The superstars they had; Bruno, Tonali, Isak and Trippier.
Gordon was a big signing but he's still a work in progress, Nick Pope is third or fourth choice England keeper who came from relegation Burnley.
Jacob Murphy played, Jamal Lascelles played.
Almiron was a punchline until Howe came in.
PSG have a team of stars, almost every player walks into almost every other big team.
I hope this spirit and fight stays and isn't filtered out by mercenaries over the next decade.

Easily the best ever night at Newcastle during my lifetime. As we always said in the Ashley days we just wanted a team that tries and honestly I don't think you could find a more passionate and hard working team at the moment. Schar goal a testament- what a bloody screamer x

Toon fan here. That was a historic moment for us. No trophy. But we spanked France's best club. A club which happened to contain the worlds best player, apparently. Apart from a sweet cross in the opening 10 mins for a Dembele shot (close), he did F all. Or should I say our defence, and in some cases our Midfield, marked him out of the game. Cracking performance by our lot.

    I am absolutely buzzing.
As an American fan since right before the Ashley years, it has been a rough ride at times. The atmosphere of St. James and the hard work ethic culture of the club drew me in and I think tonight really encapsulated that feeling. We were missing Botman, Wilson, and Joelinton, all integral members of the squad. Lascelles and Longstaff start and play out of their fucking skulls. Then Schär scores one of his signature THUNDERFUCKS of a goal to cap it all off. I mean, truly a great performance and a game i'm sure I'll never forget. ⚫⚪

Totally agree with what u said about Newcastle playing in a flat line out of possesion. Felt like it was a risk because of zaire-emery attacking the half-spaces behind the midfield, but fortunately they were really wasteful and sloppy with the ball.

Have to say PSG looked pretty lazy for the most part.
Also both PSG and AC Milan seemed to have much lower quality passing than we are used to in the PL. some great inspired passes (from Milan at least)at times but they lost the ball to us so often it was like Christmas

Probably because Longstaff’s goal shouldn’t be being conceded by a professional keeper so it has a low xG component. Burn’s goal also had a lot of people around him who also could’ve won the ball I guess.

This win is a for management a win for Eddie Howe and a win for football. Yes we have spent some money like everyone else but 3 out of 4 goal scorers were pre take over players all classed as ‘not good enough for the prem’ 2 out of 4 of the goal scorers were local lads. Absolutely buzzing!!
