Hello Tommy, I am in a wheelchair and getting into photography, I am looking for a way to mount my camera to my wheelchair. Dealing with a tripod has been cumbersome and accessibility to most angles limits for some good shots. Once I am set up I am pretty well stuck in my location. I wanted to pick your brain to see if you have any ideas on using Manfrotto Magic Arm and Super Clamp. My camera body is a Cannon R6 and my lens is a Cannon 100 to 500.
If I got 2 would it be possible to mount it to a slider ? Potentially a light weight slider so that i can alter the slider height / slant ... hope I’m making sense . Great video and thanks in advance !
I really really need something like this but the back of my desk is only 3" from the wall and cannot move further forward. I presume the lever on this clamp sticks out too far for this to work for me? I really wish the tighten lever pointed downwards instead.
the set up looks good and solid, shame itis far too short to really be useful. Most webcam mounts seem to be around 2 feet tall (give or take) and that is far too short for a desk mount.
So, this may finally be what I am looking for: A way to mount my camera (and monitor and battery) to my walker or to my wheel chair. Both the walker and the wheel chair are built mostly from metal tubes. Do you think that would work?
If you have a lightweight camera, it could work. If you’re moving around / going over bumps it could get really wobbly though. What camera / lens are you using?
@@TommyCallaway Right now I have a Canon 5D Mk II with various lenses, but I am planning to get a Z-Cam E2 (757 g, 1.67 lbs) with the Portkeys BM5 monitor (350 g, 12.35 oz), and I have ordered the Sirui 50 mm 1.33 anamorphic lens (560 g, 1.23 lbs) for it. And, I will probably get a V-Mount battery to power the camera and the monitor with a single battery. I suppose I could get two of these mounts if necessary, one for the camera and the lens and one for everything else.

While that monopole is attached to possibly a dual desk clamp. I have looked quite a bit and I cannot find a camera shoe mount that is attached at the end of a pole anywhere. The pole will stand vertically and at the top of the pole is a standard industry camera shoe mount to mount a 35 mm camera at the top of that pole.
I have a question for you. I have the Canon R5 and I plan on buying the Canon VR180 dual fisheye when it's available . I'm trying to find a device that will let me basically put the R5 at eye or forehead level to give that POV affect. Do you think this device would work? Does my question even make sense.
The godox Is great on the budget.. but the aputure is better in every other way. Particularly for high frame rate or shutter speed, godox will flicker.
@@TommyCallaway It only flickers when you have it at 0-20% brightness + combined with a very high shutter. At 30% and above the flicker is non existent.

it's a camera bracket that comes with the Manfrotto 244 magic arm. However, it doesn't come with the 244N. I think Tommy made a mistake calling it the 244N. You can check it out on Amazon
Hey, great video. Could you use this to do overhead filming of tabletop product demos? Not at an angle like in your demo, but directly top down? It doesn't seem like the arms are long enough.
Been trying to track down a good desk-mounted camera arm for my BMPCC 6k. The one I'm currently using shakes the camera with the slightest impact on my desk. Does the Magic Arm provide stable support, or is camera shake still a concern?
If you have a lightweight desk then yeah that probably will happen, but would only be really noticeable if you're using the in-camera microphone (due to vibrations making the click sounds) - an external mic mic (or one mounted on your camera with a good shock mount) might help alleviate the issue.
Tommy can you do an updated video about Xcode and gpx files for Pokémon spoofing? I love all of your videos and your pretty funny too! There could be a bottle of scotch in it for you!!
I’m so excited! You really are impressive. If you make an updated Xcode with add a gpx file ‘how to’ (I have little doubt you can get though Niantic’s new barriers) I will send you a bottle a scotch ( I am a scotch drinker too). I am in Canada, so I could send you some Canadian scotch whiskey, or your favourite kind. I’ve just discovered Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Scottish Barley - which I really like. I’d like to send you a bottle for the video. Let me know your preference.
Nice video, but you confused this old man by calling it 244N. I spent two days looking at different sites trying to figure out why the thingie does not come with the camera plate you clearly show in your video. I finally figured out that what you are showing here is the 244 magic arm, not the 244N magic arm. The difference? The 244 comes with the camera plate, the 244N comes without it.
@@TommyCallaway Oh well. :) I am actually going to order one in the hope of being able to mount my ZCam to the side of my wheelchair because for someone like me who has been an avid photographer and videomaker all my life to have become disabled, so I cannot get too far without a wheelchair or a walker (I am 70) and I cannot carry a tripod anymore.
@@TommyCallaway It is what it is. :) Anyway, last week I ordered two Manfrotto superclamps from Amazon, to be delivered tomorrow. Last night I went to B&H and ordered the 244, plus a Manfrotto 3/8" stud, a pair of SmallRig 3/8" male to male thread adapters, and last but not least a Manfrotto 502AH video head. To be delivered on Friday (though delays may occur due to the season). Then I will experiment with mounting the video head directly to the superclamp (with the help of the 3/8" stud) attached to the W/C (wheelchair), as well as with attaching the 244 to the superclamp and the camera rig to the 244, as well as with the 244 attached to the superclamp, the 502AH to the 244 and the camera rig to the 502AH. And I will probably make a video on how all those experiments went, since I surely cannot be the only W/C user who wants to attach a camera rig to the W/C.
@@TommyCallaway And it has just occurred to me that hooking the video head directly up to the superclamp attached to the W/C might not be leveled (as every W/C user knows sidewalks are not perfectly horizontal, so even if the W/C handle is parallel to the ground, it is unlikely to be horizontal). So I started searching for a solution and found something I had no idea existed despite doing photography since my early teens: I have just placed an order for a _Manfrotto 438 Compact Leveling Head - Ball Camera Leveler._ I ordered it from B&H and it is supposed to arrive on Friday, just like the things I ordered last night.

Anyone got any knowledge about the difference between the 244N and the 244RC? Also, what spigots do I need to get to get this working with the clamp? Edit: I think the difference between those 2 is that the 244RC comes with a quick release system and the 244N doesn't. Also the 244RC is more expensive and I think most people will get enough out of the bracket shown in this video. (The Manfrotto 143BKT Camera Bracket). Super Clamp expects a hexagonal base in order to be stable. Friction arm base is cylindrical, and wobbles back and forth no matter how tight.
