    I own a Plug-In Prius and I had the same bad impression on the range of electric only, but for me it works pretty well. It really depends on what type of commute that you normally do. I for instance work less than 5miles from work, so I have been going to work electric only which is great, no gas on my daily mandatory commute. I've got 700 miles on one tank recently, and bare in mind that it's only a 8 gallon gas tank. So there's your answer. I love my Plug-In Prius.

    Owned since September 22, 2012. The mpg is enhanced by the battery even if you are not using it EV only mode. It also has a higher capacity for regeneration via braking. It is not fair to compare the Prius Plug-in vs. the standard and say it is $8,000 more. The plug-in has better wheels, navigation, and options found only on the more expensive models. I drive it to work and back and plug in at both places. I see nearly 60 mpg if I drive 55mph on long trips. I log all my fill ups for mpg.

      How many miles are you getting now on your battery if you still have the car while when you last had it are you still getting 10 plus I'm thinking about buying one 2012 Prius Plug-In was 48000 miles on it

    • @nybravest

      I opted for the level 4 Prius 2012. I got everything the Plug-in has plus so many more features such as, a Sunroof, large display screen, navigation, HUD, premium JBL radio, Heated seats, Solar panel, Leatherette seats, and more. According to my naysayers, it's the best looking Prius they've seen. lol.

    5:41 will answer your question. The high cost for the EV range is due to the HSD drive train, which is more efficient than the Volt's. If you drive less than 11 miles a day and unable to access any form of public transport, then the Plug-In Prius is worth buying as it costs less than the Volt. If you drive around 40 miles, the Volt would be better, but if you drive well above 40 miles, then the Plug-In Prius would be more affordable compared to the Volt.

    The Plug-in Prius is nice because it has a nice open hatch and the battery does not take up extra space. The C-Max Energi Plug-in has a huge battery taking up space awkwardly in the back.

    I don't know why Toyota don't bring their plugin PHEV Priuses and Rav4s to Australia, where the EV range exactly matches the average daily commute. Strange decision.

    Which is why they need to make a Hybrid diesel. That should produce some really good mpg numbers.

    I don't mean any harm but, I don't think your complaints met with listening ears in the manner of which you meant. They instead became more of a constant whine. Good interview 'cept for the whining. And to the "beeping", if you're too close to the line or the bush.... it's suppose to beep because..... You're too close! :-)

    My question is can the battery be fully charged just by driving on the hwy. I live in an apartment don’t have an outlet??? Anyone know??

    • @ralstm1
      @ralstm1 3 года назад

      Can the battery be charged while driving it around?
      Basically, the answer is now. You get a tad of charge from Regen braking. But there is not scenario where the engine is directly charging the hybrid battery.
      There are other vehicles who can pull that stunt, but it is just a stunt, and not an efficient way to charge a battery.
      If you want to charge the battery, you have to plug it in.
      It is now almost a decade since Toyota gave us our first plug-in hybrid (PHEV). There are many more options now. Look at the Kia Niro, PHEV, for example.

    65 imperial miles per gallon. 51mpg in the US is a much larger figure when converted.

  • @jojo0827
    @jojo0827 12 лет назад

    In the US, efficient, small displacement diesels are non existent. Also, mpg aside, carbon footprints of hybrids tend to be better.

    volt is more than 36 mile. basically the Volt is a EV (36 mile range) )with extend gas engine.

      and the Prius Prime can go 600+ miles no stop.

    • @arispelius600
      @arispelius600 7 лет назад

      Eman 08 why would you want to drive for over 7 hours straight without a break to stretch your legs. Sounds to me like that 600 miles of range is kind of pointless unless you live in a world where the next gas station is 300 miles away.

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 7 лет назад

      Ari Spelius Pointless? 😂 it's about being economical, driving green and saving thousands of dollars. Would you spend 40 a week on a pickup or fill up once a month? These cars are Taxi Cab fleets. Go to LA, you will see thousands of them.

    • @arispelius600
      @arispelius600 7 лет назад

      Eman 08 I am not criticizing the Prius Prime's efficiency, I am criticizing the use of the total range metric as a measure of importance. Once a personal vehicle has a range of 300 - 400 miles any added range is low importance and might even slightly hurt the vehicles efficiency as you are carrying around the weight of the extra gas. This is of course talking about a persons personal car rather than a commercial vehicle where downtime for refueling would cost the operator income.
      If your goal is to be green than you should use a PHEV with as much electric range as you drive regularly, if possible.

    My son made a bumper sticker for my wife's Prius that says "Polluting Discretely." The car gets great mileage, but isn't really a green vehicle because of all the pollution required in the building of it. Also, since we don't drive too much, we don't get much use out of the oil. It is changed at 5,000 miles or every 6 months which ever comes first. So, really, don't buy it for the savings to the environment, and more to impress your liberal friends who don't know any better.

      Dee Jay Laughing all the way to the bank? Yes, yes I am. Shockingly cheap to run, with extremely frugal use of petrol. Over 600 UK miles out of 45 litres of fuel - aye! I’m laughing alright. My daily 34 mile round trip commute costs me a total of £70 a month in fuel bills. My previous vehicle was £210 a month for the same commute. And that’s £70 a month on an old very reliable 2008 Prius! A Laughing stock? Laugh it up fuzz balls (as Han Solo said). I bought this vehicle 2nd hand, and it’s already PAID for itself over 5 years. David Bowie comfortably summed up the attitudes of technologically ignorant drivers towards the Prius advanced automotive HSD propulsion systems with the immortal line in his song “Is there life on Mars?”. And the line? “Look at those cavemen go...!”. Yup! Cavemen laughing at a Prius. That’s funny! 😌
