    All of the songs are so good. These stories, the visuals, the cinematography, the colours... everything! This series of videos is incredible! I have been sleeping but no more. OnlyOneOf is objectively brilliant.

    As others have said, the pairings began during a songwriting contest (the pairings were called Only, One & Of, of course), but the pairs came about pretty naturally, since there had been previous interactions between the pairs (e.g. Mill and Nine being the maknaes, and Nine and Love hanging out because they did a lot of songwriting and producing).
    In the solos, Nine and KB were the members most involved in the songwriting and production. Btw, if you are interested in that side of OOO, I think the YT-ber Lou has a guide that focuses on the members as producers and choreographers (even though it is old, from ot7 times).
    I love the solo mvs not just because of the storylines (queer representation mixed with bl tropes galore, and the nonlinear storyline in Junji and Rie's mvs), but just the cinematography and colours. Very influenced by the movies of Wong Kar-wai, and each couple having their own colours (Kyujung: blue and pink, Junrie: yellow, orange and muted green, Wooksoo: red and green), but occasionally it blossoms into a full rainbow (at the cafe dance party in 'be free', the light prisms by the bed and at the pool in 'because').
    They also use colours very effectively in other mvs. Most people have recommended most of the recent ones, but I'd add in the older 'Sage' and 'sOng of ice and fire', and the Japanese mv for 'tsurui Onna'.
    All of their dance practices and covers are also fire, but I'll especially recommend the ones for songs without mvs, like 'dOra maar', 'bOss' and 'designer'.

      oooh the details about the colours!! I absolutely love stuff like that!!

    "Hate this city" on Yoojung's song could reffer to Seoul (wich we all know is not so lgbt friendly). On their most recent comeback, the description of seOul drift talks about the loneliness and struggles of youth on a place like seoul that appears so glamorous and nice but still there are minorities that are pushed to stay hidden. So yeah, that part of the song could be talking ahout how Yoojung's character hates a place where he can't openly love the person he's attracted to, hence "when you're free from prejudice freedom will begin".
    On another line, i'm glad you're liking OOO, i'm excited to see what new thing you'll discover 🥰

  • @Jay-cg6yn
    @Jay-cg6yn Год назад +13

    As the top comment said, the general consensus is that the cafe scene is the end of the story, but what they didn't mention is one of the pieces of evidence that supports this! In the first pool scene that comes up Rie is wearing the same sweater that he is in the opening cafe scene with the kiss, and they both look a little hesitant when Junji gets out of the pool and they look at each other, and after that, that's where we start to see the fight happen and the flashbacks. It seems like Rie came to see him and then they went to the cafe to talk everything over and make up!
    I'd also like to add my voice to the many that are telling you we'd love to see you watch all the behind the scenes videos! It's great to see how much care they put into these videos, some longer cuts of some of the best scenes, some extra tidbits of their storylines you can't quite pick up on in the music videos, (like the reason Rie decided on for why they're fighting), and how much they all (especially Yoojung) love to squeal over the romance scenes.

      since many guys are asking me for behind the scenes video, I'll definitely record my reaction to it haha
      as for the story in Rie's song, I do understand now that the cafe scene is probably when they make up! They talk it through and move forward. Someone also mentioned that seOul drift is like a loose sequel and the guys maintain their pairings. I can't wait to watch that as well!!

    I'm so happy you liked this series!
    You know? They are going to do the real life of the webtoon bl "bump up business", apparently the protagonists are going to be Mill and Nine (the guys from the last 2 MV's), but they are all going to appear in the series, it premieres this year, but we still don't know when.

  • @gmbO48
    @gmbO48 Год назад +39

    Yoojung confirmed that in his video for 'begin' it is the first time that the two have met. Also, each pair of videos are not directly connected with the others. Instead, the telephone box that keeps appearing is representative of a link that joins the three stories together from different universes (very Doctor Who, if you ask me!).
    The general consensus on Rie and JunJi's story is that they argued, but the scene in the cafe, where Rie appears quite distant towards JunJi yet allows him to lean in for a kiss, is the conclusion and that they do get back together (as seen in the seOul drift' MV that I mention below).
    OnlyOneOf do write and produce their own songs - mostly through Nine and KB, with help from a small close-knit team of producers that they have worked with since their first album. They aren't that well known outside Korea, however they are probably more popular outside Korea if that makes sense. They are popular enough to have just completed a tour of smaller venues in North, Central and South America.
    The pairings in OnlyOneOf have been set in place since before 'libidO'. So over two years. It's not a concept for an album release, this is part of who OnlyOneOf is. They initially split into three 'units' (that's how the members refer to it) of JunJi & Rie, KB & YooJung, and Nine, Love & Mill and each unit wrote and produced a song as part of an internal competition and the fans voted on the winner. The songs are 'cOy' (JunJi/Rie), 'nightflight' (KB/YooJung) and '? (questiOn mark)' (Nine/Love/Mill). They used the same units in the MVs for 'libidO' and 'skinz' and have continued with them ever since. YooJung has said that they have all worked very hard to build the chemistry with their unit partner.
    May I take this opportunity to suggest reacting to the behind the scenes videos for each of the 'be' series MVs - they are just as delightful to watch! (all available on the official OnlyOneOf channel). It's a great way to learn more about the members themselves - they really are the nicest, most humble and down-to-earth people, not to mention ridiculously funny. And also 'seOul drift', which is a very loose continuation of the 'be' series. Not really a continuation, more of a brief glimpse into where each of the couples are afterwards.
    I see that someone else has already mentioned the fact that OnlyOneOf are starring in their own BL series this year. I don't believe it's been confirmed which members have the lead roles, but I know they will all do an incredible job.

    • @monochromeUji
      @monochromeUji  Год назад +15

      oh wow thanks for giving me all these details! Especially the part about how the pairings came to be. It's very interesting that the units existed before the concept of coupling them up in romantic storylines came in.
      I went to their channel to see what videos they've been uploading and I'm so happy to see that they're getting appreciated outside of Korea, even though it's only small venues. I hope they can get the same recognition inside Korea as well.
      I'm so excited to check out more stuff from these guys. they're taking over me quickly! ☺☺

    they have choreos for the solos which are mainly solo choreo (+backup dancers) but have moments of pair choreo with the units! also they are definitely more popular outside of korea than within, korea is still too conservative for queer music. as i said already the members are all involved in their work and they're also really close to the people they work with! they call each other their family and hang out in their free time too, fans often call their producers the "extended family"
    also i think the contrast between mill's mv and song are perfect, the song shows what he's feeling inside: frustrated and with a strong wish to stand up for himself. but he's outnumbered and realistically can't do much, which is what we see in the mv. even when nine does stand up for mill, he ends up getting beat up

    • @gmbO48
      @gmbO48 Год назад +8

      I completely agree with you about the juxtaposition between Mill's hard line rap and the softer MV, it IS perfect. All of his anger and frustration explode out through the song, but the video is left to (mostly) show the gentler side of his relationship with Nine. I think they were right to go down that route.

    • @monochromeUji

      Yeah, in the mv you can even see that Mill has the glasses on (representing his meek self), except when he's in his mind rapping, or alone with Nine, expressing his inner feelings, and then he doesn't wear the glasses.
      They draw a clear line between the shy mask he shows to the outside world, and his real face (both his frustration at the bullying, and his romantic feelings).
