Liberia President-Elect Boakai Pledges to Declare Assets, Curb Corruption

- Liberia's President-elect Joseph Boakai says he plans to declare his assets once his tenure begins, as part of an effort to weed out corruption in the West African nation. Boakai, a former vice president in Liberia, won the November presidential run-off election defeating incumbent President George Weah.
Boakai sat down with VOA’s Peter Clottey for an in-depth interview on his plans as he takes office in January 2024.

We need sidewalks, trash cans, dumpsters put in place, and public toilets, just to name a few. I Strongly believe that these items and facilities will help to maintain good a clean environment, hence improving sanitation and the overall health of our citizens. I like what I'm hearing so for from our honorable president-elect and eager to see them become a reality/put into action.
We NEED education on how to appreciate these things. All these things can only make a clean, sanitary environment if the people know their purpose and utilize them appropriately.

Please remember that our country is the 2nd oldest country in Africa but no good pave road connections in almost every part of the country, I hope that you will connect our road network in liberia because without good road, inflation will always take place. Auditing should not just start with the Weah government rather your vice presidential tenue in the Ellen government.
U are a fool. U are not to tell him whether to starts from. Wisdom. This is no witch hunt; but process every sound government will do.
Why Weah and his gang of thieves didn't do it.
It seems people are beginning to get warry already. Weah had the opportunity to conduct an audit when he took over as president but he wasn't interested; WHY? Instead, officials within his government were busy KILLING AUDITORS. All auditing firms in Liberia begin silent and fearful to attempt anything like an audit during the Weah's presidency; WHY? This an opportunity for Liberia to take a meaningful step forward and set up a system that no future president can ignore. Let's put aside the distractions so Liberia can at least make some progress.

Liberia has shown maturity and civility
Investigating corrupt officials is not witch hunting. It’s accountability and transparency in a democracy. Liberia has more than five billion dollars in embezzled funds and other assets overseas. Therefore, JNB need to setup a reliable economy development commission that will investigate, prosecute and recover all embezzled funds and assets, and to establish an economic development partnership with Japan, EU and United States. Let them help you develop.
I didn't vote JNB, but I love this press release today because it's about our country as a youth, but what's about the issues drugs that is spoiling our youths because if you are providing the jobs, there should be people to do those jobs as well.
