Billy held Ray Charles in such high esteem that he named his first daughter after Ray, calling her Alexa Ray. These two unbelievable artists really deliver on this song. Thank you for the great reaction. 👏👏❤️🥰

And although both play the piano in this song, Billy write it himself, though from his occasional airings on a paid radio subscription, he stated it took him awhile to figure out what to lyrics to write to share a commonality they shared, which of course is the piano. If I'm correct they did it in one take, though Billy stated Ray played all the flourishes and He played the basic piano parts. Note, although I'm positive Billy Joel is more than capable of doing the more complex piano fingerings,, I'm just guessing as Ray Charles is his role model, he was happy to allow him to play the complex and intricate flourishes. In this awesone song. Side note, it isn't just Ray's piano playing and singing, but the style of music, being rhythm and blues that Ray Charles such a huge role model for Billy Joel.

This was GREAT! Billy Joel's music is my generation & I have loved almost ALL of it. His great songs & great piano playing & wonderful voice mean that he is always a favourite with me. Ray Charles, even though a little before my time really - he just is IT. There is NO ONE like him! He has a FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC voice. I LOVE HIS special style of Blues & of course topped with impeccable piano playing.
This song, putting the two of them together & with Billy Joel copying Ray's style was WONDERFUL. Hearing & FEELING the VERY special place the piano has in BOTH their lives & hearts in a tremendous song, sung & played by the two of them in Ray's style was just pure excellence.

Amber is right, Ray Charles is one of Billy Joel’s idols. He even named his daughter Alexa Ray after him. Actually speaking of Billy’s daughter, he wrote Downeaster Alexa for her! If you haven’t reacted to that song yet, DO IT!

This song is such an underrated gem. Billy rarely ever recorded duets or collaborated with other artists. One other collab was with Cyndi Lauper, a deep cut called "Code of Silence," which she helped him write when he was having trouble with it. Tons of videos out there of Artists performing with Ray Charles. His last studio album was released in 2004, after his death. It was a collaboration album where he does songs with Van Morrison, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones, James Taylor, BB King, Gladys Knight, Diana Krall, and Mr Willie Nelson. Great album! Do some of those live performance videos😁

Tony Bennett with KD Lang is surprisingly perfect too. Santana's entire Supernatural album is a brilliant duet.
But Ray and Billy are two grapes on a vine striking chords so devine!

I have seen this videos many times and only just noticed that Ray Charles is reading the lyrics in Braille! Yes, yews, I knew he was blind, just never noticed the Braille. Billy Joel is one of America's greatest singer-songwriters. A bit of a genius.

So glad to see you got to Musical “Grad School.” 😉 Billy wrote this for Ray’s particular style in mind. He captured it brilliantly…✨
