We agree, drawing is something that everyone can learn to do, if it's presented well like we see on this channel! Creating distinct overlaps is one thing that people new to art often miss, but when you consider that a contour line in drawing is basically the boundary between something in front and something behind, it makes sense. The more information we can encode into the lines (in front or behind, light over dark or dark over light, longer or shorter, etc.) the more believable our art can become!
Hi! Thank u for the tutorial, could u maybe do one on faces. I can draw (for the most part lol) faces facing straight forward, human pretty ok at, but animals get me. Tilted faces of any kind get me😂😜it's bad LOL. Please and thank u!
I definitely need a lot of help with my drawing skills. When I was younger I was always drawing but then I got away from it as life became more complicated. I really need to start doing this more. This was a big help and I would love to see more videos on drawing. Thank you for the video and great information.
Thanks Emily, this was kind of putting the dot on letter i. Very helpful. I would definitely like to see other videos regarding drawing. As we know, a bad drawing would never result in a good painting :)
Thanks so much for recommending this book! I’ve been illustrating for a while but lately I’ve been really wrapped up in concept and character design, so I bought the book to practice drawing fundamentals. This is a great book! I like it so much I went to their website drawing with Bruce and bought two more of his books. I just love them!
I love your teaching techniques. You make things seem so simple. You have taught me a lot. I do want to suggest that you should say "farther" away, not "further" away. Although many people use the two words interchangeably, ther has to do with distance, such as how away in the distance something looks.
Could you do a session on what colors to use to do shading on things (not shadows…shading)? Also how intense to mix that color and how to blend it in. Thank you for your videos.
Hi Emily, Thank you for your perspective video something I have a hard time with and I will work on. I love to learn about drawing and painting animals and I love landscapes, seascapes!
Excellent Emily. My 2023 goal is to draw everyday. Drawing is my least favorite part of the watercolor process but probably the most important if you're not an abstract painter.
Easy to understand tips on drawing perspective, clear descriptions coupled with simple demonstrations make a perfect combo for beginners like me. Instantly, I find drawing perspective a bit less intimidating. Thanks, Emily!
Emily, I just found your channel a few days ago and subscribed immediately. You are amazing!! Youre so good at teaching and explaining, Im learning so much from you. I tried two of your tutorials so far and they turned out so pretty (not as good as yours but way better than my previous paintings!) I am so grateful to you for putting in the effort, caring and teaching.
brilliant! Thanks Emily.I started to learn all about drawing, colour pencils and watercolour at 68 just before xmas, and in that time i had 6-7 patreons to try and learn, but dropped them all when i found you Emily.Your Watercolor Mastery Membership is amazing as you are the best teacher and you have a lovely and simple way to help guys like me, so many projects to learn from.i'm a fan for life cheers. yes i also would love more drawing please.
The surface lines genuinely blew me away. I know that phrase gets used a lot lately, but somehow it's the only one of those I never knew about...because I've never noticed it before. You put the lines on that first leg and I was like "But that's not helping at all," and then somehow after the second leg...it was like watching you and other artists going from ugly-stage painting to finished: I watched the whole process and it STILL looks like magic. 😂 And the donut honestly does the same thing! I never would've thought to change the lines on the back half!
Love these Emily, so helpful to just name the concepts. Please include examples of poorly drawn subjects and how just a small adjustment can make them right. I struggle but sometimes don’t know why it’s wrong.
Thank you Emily!!! I use this textbook with my son for art class in homeschooling…he is learning much earlier than I did and it shows! I would love to see more drawing lessons especially for portraits and figures…your watercolor portraits are so awesome because your drawing is so awesome! Any tips for portrait drawing would be wonderful!!!
i believe anyone can draw, its just that someone along a persons life told them they couldnt 😕 but they can if they really wanted too and with some encouragement 🙂
