- Kent LaVoie (born July 31, 1943), better known by his stage name Lobo, is an American singer-songwriter who was successful in the early 1970s, scoring several U.S. Top 10 hits including "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo", "I'd Love You to Want Me", and "Don't Expect Me to Be Your Friend". These three songs, along with “Where Were You When I Was Falling In Love”, gave Lobo four chart toppers on the Easy Listening/Hot Adult Contemporary chart.
"I'd Love You to Want Me" is the title of a popular song from 1972 by Lobo (the stage name of Roland Kent LaVoie). He wrote the song, which appears on his album 'Of A Simple Man'.
Released as a single in the fall of 1972, "I'd Love You to Want Me" was the singer's highest charting hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it spent two weeks at No. 2 in November of that year. It was kept from the top spot by Johnny Nash's hit song, "I Can See Clearly Now". The single was the second of four of his songs to hit No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart, where it had a one-week stay at that top spot in December 1972. It became a gold record.
When originally released in the United Kingdom in 1972, the song failed to reach the UK Singles Chart; however, a re-release of the single in 1974, on the UK label, peaked at No. 5.[5]
The song also topped the music charts in at least seven nations, including Australia (Kent Music Report, two weeks), Canada (RPM Magazine, one week), and Germany (Media Control Charts, 13 weeks in 1973-1974).

I first heard this song when I was in the US Army, age 29, and I was stationed in Germany. I am still listening to this song and I am now 73. A true classic. I am still happily stuck listening to the music of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Those were the best years of music, in my opinion.

I remember meeting him and wife Susie at bingo in Cherokee NC . They came often and all I knew they were Kent and Susie . Friends had a get together and my wife talked with Susie and asked her how they met. She shared with wife and then I knew who he was. Came home that night and went to RUclips and listened to all his songs. Wife took picture of Kent and Me . Haven’t seen them in a couple years. Great people ! !

This was my grandfather's fave song. He always play it in our cd player before, along with other lobo songs. He died 2 years ago because of old age. I played this just days ago with our bt speaker and put on full volume when I noticed my mom going into their room. I know she's crying tho. She still cries when she sees his pictures.
