In this video, The Lallantop's Nikhil Wath talked about the centrally sponsored schemes and the debate of Fiscal federalism in India. On 30th July 2024, while responding to the opposition's questions on budget Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman said, "Yesterday, the TMC questioned the budget that nothing has been given to West Bengal. Several schemes given by PM Modi have not even been implemented in Bengal and you have the audacity to ask me now." In contrast, the finance minister of West Bengal and leaders of TMC have been accusing the central government of non-payment of their share of expenses for various centrally sponsored schemes. These two situations have led to a debate about the centrally sponsored schemes. Nikhil explained how different categories of centrally sponsored schemes have different expense-sharing formulas and how these expenses lead to financial pressure on the state governments.
