Not using double-deckers is a big mistake. My grandfather was a tram driver from 1920 till 1953. I can remember trams lined up outside the Villa ground by the dozen and they cleared the crowds quickly. They maintain that these new trams hold more passengers, but that's only because they're much longer and take up more room on the streets. Before the war they had plans to put the trams underground, and that's what they should have done here. They travel so slowly amongst the pedestrians that you might as well walk.
The Tram bring the culture back to Birmingham, the Busses is are foreign object in the nice city in the last 50 years.
