The Jennifer Walters trial you mentioned..kind of set a tone for the whole event. In it, she is representing a former costumed villain who was eventually convicted for "talking shop." He did not plan a heist, a kidnapping, or a murder. He didn't even have his costume any longer. But the guy was convicted, and Jennifer Walters defended him - vigorously. And then she does a complete 180 and gets on the side of Carol Danvers in this whole fiasco. At that point, I was out. No lawyer, I'll say it again, *no lawyer* would ever get behind a doctrine that punishes before the crime has taken place. Due Process, anyone? Fourteenth Amendment? Just blink if any of these words seem familiar. *Sigh* I hated Civil War II so much...
It's not like Tony's side was written any better. They manage to save the Earth from Thanos....and this justifies Tony kidnapping and torturing the innocent psychic who warned them? They had to make Carol's side into fascists, because otherwise Tony, with his rants about the natural order, looks incoherently psychotic.
But the point to me is to say, at what point would one ignore those rights? This is that context, so you would just be against Carol, it's good writing in that way. You relate thru disagreeing and seeing the obvious disharmony, so you'd be on the right side of history in that timeline. I would've kinda agreed with Carol but ultimately precogs aren't always right anyway so we should at least try to change our fate
If this book proved anything, it's that Bendis (minus the characters he invented) only knows how to write Spider-Man, IronMan, and Daredevil well, and this coming from someone who loves Bendis' work
Which is why the only big events that he writes and are good are ones like Secret Invasion where the characters he knows how to write are the main characters and all the other guys make minor cameos. However, with Civil War II all these characters that Bendis can't write are the main characters and the guys like Daredevil and Spidey only get five lines.
Ive always maintained that Old Man Logan should have been the one to kill Banner. His whole deal in his book at that time was preventing his future, and Banner was on top of his list. Would have advanced his deal and help showcase the perils of alt futures.
That would have may way to much sense, Bendis couldn't allow that (the funny thing is that he actually wrote a mini for him in Secret Wars, so he could have tied it to that) he has to go for the contrived route and pissing more fans along the way.
I mean, Bendis loves nothing above referencing himself, and he wrote OML, so I expected him to do that. It would even be a great Bendis moment of everyone freaking out about who this old guy is and why he has claws, and one of the extraordinary X-Men crew trying to explain hes from an alt future. He could ahve an entire issue of Bendis-speak of people interrupting each other and asking the same questions over again as a room full of idiots all talk over each other debating the thing.
Ian McKee Old Man Logan was there when they went to confront Hulk. Tbh, I would have thought that Old Man Logan would have lashed out and killed him right there. He had so much motivation to do it. Think: He wanted to kill Banner. He wanted to prevent the death of all the heroes. He should have sliced Banner's neck right there.
*Eternity:* "There is so much more to the universe, Ulysses. Come. Let me show you." *Ulysses:* "...That's a pillow." *Eternity:* "..Yes...it is..." _smothers_
Eternity "Poochie-ing" Ulysses away doesn't even make sense because at the time of CW2, it was a major plotpoint in The Ultimates that something or someone had physically bound Eternity with unbreakable chains in the multiverse... AND CAROL'S THE GODDAMN LEADER OF THE ULTIMATES!
Civil War II was doomed to fail from the premise alone... The whole struggle revolves around the conceit that precognition is a limited and recently-introduced resource in the Marvel Universe, which even the most cursory follower of comics can tell you is NOT TRUE. But like you said, HONEY BENDIS DON'T CARE
*At the end* Ben: I can bang my wife! But I can't lick my own ass.... Sal: *gasp* Sal: *hand movement* Ben: *laughter* me: my stomach is literally hurting cuz I replayed this scene like 5 times and I am crying laughing, I fucking love you guys 😂😂😂
The thing that gets me about Civil War 2 is... Both Tony and Carol were right in their own ways. But it was written in such a way that they humanized Tony's "you can't punish people for something they may never do" viewpoint and didn't focus on the very real and very logical possibility that Carol could just have SHIELD and superheroes stationed at the locations of potential catastrophes, stopping them as they begin and imprisoning the guilty culprits. Instead they just had Carol hounding people who, at the time, were just innocent of the crimes they were accused of. A good civil war story should show both viewpoints, bring logic and emotion into both viewpoints and make it a heartbreaking decision for the readers to pick a side. But with CW2, because of the way BMB decided to write Carol, there was no logic to her actions, she wildly accused people as soon as visions came in, instead of waiting for situations to arise and cutting down the threat accordingly. Preparation instead of accusation should've been her method and it wasn't so all the potential this story had just flew out the window.
The only future vision from the last issue I really cared about was Old King Thor fighting Loki (who is using the necrosword) mostly because I want to see that fight.
@@nerdking1019 I know and honestly at that point during that time i should've suspected from the very beginning that tie-in was basically a cash grab that went nowhere in the long scheme of things.
The problem with this was the same as the problem with Civil War 1. Basically, the characters all found out that the title of the book was "Civil War". So they all said "welp, I guess that instead of acting like rational human beings we better start civil warring".
What's funny is that Al Ewing in his Ultimates run, made Eternity prisoner of a bigger cosmic entity at the time of Civil War II. Which means that Bendis didn't pay attention to continuity again. -_-

He should've used his normal armour or Endo Sym armour or Bleeding Edge armour etc and he would've easily destroyed Captain Marvel. Putting him into coma was just done solely to introduce Riri Williams
It would have been better if Ulysses' power was making people see illusions and the inhumans thought he could see the future and they made everyone else think it, while Ulysses was just like, "I don't want to piss off these all powerful beings so I'm just gonna go along with it." Would have injected some actual stakes and tension in the story.
