My father use to repair fishing reels at a shop called Red Top in Bourne Massachusetts. He cussed all the time about the professional fishermen. They think they own the water and they would try to nickel and dime everyone. They also flip out in anger when neighboring fishermen make too much noise. One of the sneaky tricks they would do to my father, they would bring in a reel to be repaired and later bring it back saying it wasn't working. When my father would take the reel apart he would discover it was not the reel he worked on prior. It would be the same model but a different reel. My father would use different color greases to catch them.

Had a friend who custom painted HO-gauge model railroad locomotives. Ozarkers like to bicker, dicker. Guy agreed to have model painted for $75 ($150 was going rate at the time). Came in 1 day after job was done said he won't pay over 39.98, then left. My friend thought about about it, called him, agreed, come in a week to pick it up. Customer came in 1 week later grinning from ear to ear thinking about the deal only to find out during reveal my friend completely stripped model bare of paint job, left it as is. Told the scammer don't ever come back no 1 needs customers like you. Bicker dicker never came back but did find time to take his newfound el strippo model home, lol.

Hi - I just saw this video; I haven't seen any others of yours. I grew up fishing, and I'll offer my perspective. When I was learning to fish (in the early 1950s), my father really only used bait, so that's what I started with. For striped bass and catfish In the Sacramento/San Joaquin delta, we used pieces of sardines we bought from bait shops. We'd fished for years in a small reservoir that was stocked with hatchery rainbows, and also in some of the small streams in San Mateo County. I dug worms from our yard for trout, and we also used salmon eggs. I regularly read Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, and Field & Stream, and from those I learned about spinners and spoons, and I bought a gold-colored spoon (a 1/8 oz. Rhumba). One day at the reservoir I showed it to my father and told him I wanted to try it. He pooh-poohed the notion, but I put it on anyway; on my first cast, I hooked and caught one of those hatchery rainbows. I enjoyed actively fishing much more than merely passively waiting for a fish to bite the bait that was sitting still. Later I tried fly fishing, and found that more enjoyable still. One aspect of it is that what you feel when playing the fish is only what the fish is doing; there's no weight interfering with the feel. And the fly line doesn't stretch like monofilament, so it's a more direct connection. And the most fun of all is dry fly fishing, where to set the hook, you react not to what you feel, but what you see. Fishing is fun period, and as you progress from bait to hardware to flies, it keeps getting better. That fly fisherman you mentioned didn't behave the way he did because he was a fly fisherman; he behaved that way because that's his personality. He'd be the same individual whether he fished, played tennis, or bowled.

Mike, First, I want to say that I really enjoy your channel, and all your commentary! It’s very interesting and informative. I’m a fly fisherman, and really appreciated your discussion about fly fishing VS. Lure fishing! You made some great points, which made me understand the perspective of a non fly fisher, I’ve been a snob! Thinking my way of fishing is superior and more sophisticated, and is more difficult etc. However, I now have a better understanding, and have a whole new attitude and acceptance for lure fishing, (bait fishing also). We’re all just outdoors enjoying the beautiful scenery, trying to catch a fish, so how we do it shouldn’t make one better than the other! Thanks for bringing this to my attention and making me seriously think about this issue! Steve

Awww the familiar roads of home! I agree with ya Mike on the chain law. Many, many years ago it was more of an option not a mandate. Anyone who drives these passes knows when chains need to be used and most times snow tires are fine. Its a learned art and skill with practice and being raised there comes naturally with experience. I think thru the years with the influx of people movin there from no snow states learning and practicing on these roads mess it up for everyone....like you said it only takes one to mess it up for everyone. Always thought it'd be a good idea to have out of staters movin from no snow states to retest after a snow course class would be beneficial. Yeah...in a perfect world Lol
Stay safe Mike! Thanks for letting us ride along. Always look forward to your videos.

On Sept 30, 1995 I delivered snow making equipment to Vail Ski area just after an 8 inch snow fall. Ski area workers helped me chain up with their chains so I could bring the load to the half way point on the mountain. The road was snowy, muddy, and had a lot of horse manure mixed in. What a stinking mess! The workers teased me about being out of shape because I was sweating and couldn't catch my breath. They told me we were about 10,000 feet elevation! On the way back towards Denver I was stopped at the EB scale because the DOT man could not read the company name thru the mud all over the cab.

Mike. The worst place I was ever looked down on fishing was in Bennett Springs, Missouri. Not sure if you have been there but it is also camping and a trout hatchery. They have 3 sections. Upper part for fly fishing, middle part for fly or artificial lures, and the lower for bait. Fly and lure fishing can move around from area to area. But not bait. We were always seen as lower class. Didn't matter if you were good with fly and lures. The minute you went bait fishing that was bad. You should give it a try sometime. Nice area, view wise.

Did a lot of I-70 West from Denver to Frisco, Breckenridge, Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Basalt. Once to Aspen, and once to Silt. Used to bring full for 7-11 stores out of Denver. Pretty much everyday from 2001 till 2005. You know Haz Mat aren't allow through Hainsenhower tunnel, so Loveland pass.
Oh, you just mentioned Gypsum, I brought jet fuel to the airport, and forgot to mention the 7-11 of Steamboat Spring. To get Steamboat one need to drive through Berthoud pass and Rabbit Ear pass. Some times I needed to chain up twice.

That's the attitude of many people, "your just a truck driver". I drove OTR flatbed for 5 years and it's a tough damn job. If a non-trucker would think about it and realize that while they have to deal with the traffic and nutty drivers on their commute to and from work a truck driver deals with that on a full time basis, Not to mention the weather and road condition issues and the problems that go along with getting in and out of large cities and dealing with DOT, scales, logbooks and government regulations. You spend an enormous amount of time away from home, family, friends and pets so that the goods that everyone wants and needs in Walmart, Safeway and Home Depot are there when they are needed. I hauled a variety of cargo but primarily it was construction material. Pipe, concrete, bricks, roofing, steel and rebar. Truckers haul everything that keeps America growing and prospering so all you four wheelers out there keep that in mind and give them a break. And all you truckers driver responsibly and safely and set the example for how to keep the roads safe for everyone. Share the road and share the lakes and streams!!!

As far as that McDonalds lawsuit, the truth is a little more complicated then people usually realize. The 79 year old woman who spilled the coffee in her lap had serious 3rd degree burns over something like 5% of her body that required skin grafts and a week in the hospital, then another month of convalescence in her home where her daughter had to take care of her. Initially they asked McDonalds for $20,000, most of which was her medical expenses and a few thousand was her daughters lost wages from that month where she had to take care of her mother, but McDonalds offered $800 and wouldn't negotiate, so they sued. During the trial it came out that McDonalds was keeping their coffee more than 20 degrees hotter than other food establishments, and that they had settled about 700 lawsuits over the years for serious burn injuries, meaning they knew that the temperature was potentially dangerous. They also knew that lowering the temperature by 10 degrees would give people something like 10 extra seconds to clear the scalding liquid from their skin before it caused permanent injury and lower the number of serious burn injuries by nearly half, but their bean counters had determined it was cheaper to settle the occasional lawsuit than lower the coffee temperature or even issue a warning to customers other than "it might burn the roof of your mouth". So McDonalds was doing something they knew was dangerous, was outside normal industry practice, and couldn't be bothered to change it because it was cheaper to dare people to sue them than lose some of their coffee sales; kind of exactly the behavior that lawsuits are meant to try and change for the common good. Also, although the jury did award her a settlement of about 3 million, the judge immediately lowered that to $600,000 and she ended up settling for an undisclosed smaller amount in the end, so she didn't exactly get rich off the lawsuit. You might know all that and still think the lawsuit was stupid and frivolous, which is totally fine, but like I said, a lot of people haven't hear the whole story about it. So if you didn't know, now you know.

Fly fisherman look down on lure fishermen because the lure fishermen are bent down picking up fish. Keep on trucking....

I've had guys snub me because I used a level wind for Steel-Head and a couple days later I show up with a Center-Pin and they thought I could walk on water with them (same fishin hole, same old farts) and wouldnt stop gabbing.

@@omegaseamaster1550 Its the same in any genre of hobby Bob. I ran a photography group where there were the usual guys with their ££££ equipment when the new 16Yr old girl shows up with a phone camera and blows them outa the water. They then bitched about camera phones rather than facing the fact that its not the equipment which brings success but the conviction and heart in freestyling.

#45 Yup, they closed I-70 on me, too! My RV is high and light, 11,500 lbs. I tried I-80 and they closed it, too! Waited out the weather in Sinclair, Wm. across from the Police Station. Happy Valentine Day, Mike.

I hooked a carp in the gill at a spillway once. Only fish I ever caught. I wanted to throw it back. No way would I eat a carp. My father took it home and ate it. Yuk! Lol
Did you get your wipers fixed?
    Beautiful scenery.

Hi Mike: great video today. I don’t think fly fishermen have any animosity toward lure fishermen? I do both and like you I don’t bait fish. I find the best time to fish is when the waters still cold. Had my best day one Christmas Eve at Inn of the mountain Gods next week the lake froze over. Glad you were able to make a deal on the property you wanted. Good luck with that. It’s snowing here in El Paso today don’t like the snow but we need the moisture. Keep safe and we’ll catch you next trip. Edward
