For real though, it is really is the difference between the various elements that makes it so fun. Also, we get to see it being made rather than just experiencing the end result. That also adds a major element of enjoyment because we're experiencing the process rather than just the end result.
I was immediately on board when I saw Dance Gavin Dance though, one of my all time favorites, also fairly certain one of Doo and Gibson's songs was heavily influenced by them.

Even with MIDI guitar (computerized guitars, essentially) musicians still do it since it creates a reverb effect that makes the sound of the guitar much better. Hell, I still even do it on some of my music I made. Although, I've been slowing down on doing so ever since I had to do college. That and art.

For the free app, I recommend using LMMS since, despite its clunky nature, you can still produce great quality songs out of it. But if you have cash to spare, I recommend getting FL Studio since it has a lot more options and has a better WAV/MP4 audio control than LMMS has.

It’s in one side of your ear because when guitars afe recorded they double track and record the left and right side sound separately usually
