I think having Gotrek and Felix not being famous heroes is a key part to their success. They let King (and others) tell small stories in the warhammer world were you get to know the barmen rather then Karl Franz
I listened to this book for the first time and loved it - genuinely funny, the misadventures and plotting of the skaven is hilarious. Also, hats of to the guy who reads the audiobook, he does a bang up job and seemed to be channeling Les Dawson for the voice of Gotrek 😂
This and Daemonslayer are the strongest books in the series. I love that most of the people of Nuln think Skaven are a made up story to scare kids, hilarious when one of the Skaven ends up crashing a fancy dress party and everyone thinks this is a costume.
The first story, Skaven's Claw, was my very first read of warhammer fiction and it first appeared in White Dwarf 152 & 153 as a two parter. The collection Skavenslayer didn’t appear until 1999.
Oh dude legit re-listening to this on audible as we speak! Best part: "Lament Skaven! Tragic news!" Thanquol said, and even the coughing stopped. "Mighty warlord Vermek Skab is dead, killed in a terrible accident involving a loaded crossbow and an exploding donkey. We will have the traditional ten heartbeats of silence to mark his return of his soul to the Horned Rat." Immediately, all the Skaven began to talk among themselves. Ps. Big shout out to Johnathan Keeble for those incredible Skaven voices! He said in an interview they always f'd his throat.😂
Thank-thank you, man-thing! Most hour-long videos take the leaders place at the rear of my vast and mighty Watch List, but this one I'm watching right away ... I have very fond memories of the early Gotrek and Felix novels, with Daemonslayer in particular having a lasting impact on me (by convincing me that giant war-airships are cool).
Been saving up a listen for this episode and not disappointed. The book club is great and I really wish more would tune into this one as they’re informative and provide excellent chat on a really fun area of cLassic GW fiction. Has inspired me to read more books (I do a lot of audio). Especially ones I missed out on as a kid. Thank you for the chat!
Skavenslayer was an early Black Library book (though the first short in the collection was originally published in an earlier White Dwarf and might have been intended for the unpublished 4th anthology of Warhammer Fantasy stories that was planned for GW Books. Had so much fun chatting about one of my favourite ever Warhammer novels.
Me too!
William King's early Gotrek and Felix novels are PEAK Warhammer Fantasy.
It just FEELS so Warhammer doesn’t it!
It’s the only true Gotrek & Felix
I think having Gotrek and Felix not being famous heroes is a key part to their success. They let King (and others) tell small stories in the warhammer world were you get to know the barmen rather then Karl Franz
That’s a very good point, and it’s definitely more fun seeing them working with the down & outs!

It’s such a great read, so many fun moments!
WHQ was a classic of the era! Keen to see more content on it
The only thing better than Stu or Jordan is Stu AND Jordan. Great review! Looking forward to your WQ game!

I’m not surprised about that, Keeble really gives it his all!
this one is my favorite Warhammer book
It’s rapidly taken a place high in my list of favourites!
somewhere in my deepest vaults i have those two metal minis...
They’re classics! @miniaturerealms recently did a fantastic video painting them up!
Skavenslayer, fantastic! Go through the whole G&F series!
Don’t tempt us!

I’ve heard great things about Daemonslayer so I’m very much looking forward to it!

Great discussion, as always, and this one focusing on a Skaven book! You guys are very much selling me on some of these Warhammer novels.
They wrote some real good stuff for the setting!
My favorite BL novel - three great characters before they were memes. Thanquol as the tragic hero steals the show.
I am just halfway through this one on Audible
I recently read the 1st Omnibus and it was fantastic. Wish I could get hold of the 2nd as paperback.
Read thar recently, great Book.🤩
It was such fun!
@Jordan Sorcery - you might want to warn viewers of the massive spoilers in this discussion. :D
Do you have a list of the 17 original books? ty
(And Skaven Slayer isn't one of them?)
