USS West Virginia had one of the longest range hits recorded and was able to fire when other ships couldn't due to it's newly installed radar. So having inaccurate guns is a disservice, I agree. Pitch black, dead of night I might add.
I will point out that during the Battle Of The Surigao Strait, in PITCH BLACK conditions USS West Virginia got a radar lock on IJN Yamashiro at 42,000 yards. Admiral Oldendorf held fire until giving the order to open fire at 22,800 yards. The USS West Virginia scored a first salvo hit on Yamashiro and hist on five out of the next six salvo's. The MK 8 Rangekeeper fire control system was so good it made USS West Virginia one of the most accurate battleships to ever fight in combat.
@@grimreaperscreed5938 The Colorado class USS Washington (BB47) was launched but was never completed. It never had its guns or remaining superstructure installed. It was sunk as a target ship November 26, 1924.
Considering this is a ship that’s already in the game, I think it’ll either be the final reward of a collection, or final reward for some specific mission. Or perhaps a calendar reward. I like this ship, look forward to it coming to the game
USS West Virginia, a 32,600-ton Colorado class battleship built at Newport News, Virginia, was commissioned in December 1923, the last battleship completed for the United States Navy for nearly two decades. During the 1920s and 1930s, she served in the U.S. Fleet, taking part in "Fleet Problems" and other exercises as part of the continuing effort to develop tactics and maintain the Navy's combat readiness. With much of the rest of the Fleet, she deployed to New Zealand and Australia in 1925 in an important demonstration of the Navy's trans-Pacific strategic "reach". West Virginia's base was moved to Pearl Harbor in 1940, and she was there on 7 December 1941, when the Japanese attacked with an overwhelming force of carrier aircraft. In that raid, the battleship was hit by two bombs and at least seven torpedoes, which blew huge holes in her port side. Skillful damage control saved her from capsizing, but she quickly sank to the harbor bottom. More than a hundred of her crew were lost. Salvaged and given temporary repairs at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard, in April 1943 West Virginia steamed to the West Coast for final repair and modernization at the Puget Sound Navy Yard. The battleship emerged from the shipyard in July 1944 completely changed in appearance, with a wider hull, and massively improved anti-aircraft gun battery. West Virginia arrived in the Pacific combat zone in October, and soon was participating in pre-invasion bombardment of Leyte, in the Philippines. On 25 October, as a force of Japanese battleships and smaller vessels attempted to make a night attack on the landing area, she was one of the ships that stopped them in the Battle of Surigao Strait, the last time in World history when battleships engaged battleships with their big guns. Subsequently, West Virginia took part in operations to capture Mindoro, Lingayen Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, using her sixteen-inch guns to support U.S. ground forces. On 1 April 1945, while off Okinawa, she was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze plane but was able to remain in action, continuing her bombardment duties there into June. After Japan's capitulation, West Virginia supported the occupation effort until mid-September. She participated in Operation "Magic Carpet" during the last part of 1945, bringing home veterans of the Pacific war. Inactive after early 1946, she was decommissioned in January 1947. Following twelve years in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, USS West Virginia was sold for scrapping in August 1959.
A sad story about her while she was still at pearl. After the attack, three of her crew were trapped, they banged on the Hull to be rescued, but it was too dangerous to get to them. They survived for 16 days 😢
There were 3 Colorado Class ships that were completed and one cancelled. "Big 7" Club USS Colorado (BB45), Maryland (BB46) & West Virginia (BB48). BB47 "Washington" didn't make the cut thanks to the naval treaty and got used for target practice instead. Would've been cool for the history books/egos to have 4 spots in the "Big 7" Club
Every time I load in in the Arkansas people will just bounce and I get harassed non stop from a carrier. When you said doing circles around teammates you were speaking to my heart.
On the PC version we were asking Wargaming for a modernized West Virginia for three YEARS. When they announced it was coming we were all excited, until we saw that they were giving us a pre pearl harbor West Virginia, a ship NOBODY ASKED FOR! The fact that they are FINALLY putting it into the game...just pisses me off. Since Wargaming's chief marketing strategy seems to be to anger and alienate their customers....they are spot on here!!!!!
The 16-inch/45-caliber gun MK 8 gun of the West Virginia actually had a slightly higher muzzle velocity with the AP Mark 5 shell of 2,520 ft/s (770 m/s) than the Iowa class 2,500 ft/s (762 m/s) with the MK8 AP shell. So her shells should not be slow or floaty.
I dont mind this ship at all. Cool thing to note is that the USS West Virginia (after it got its refit) was the most modern ship in the United States Navy (EVEN more modern than the Iowa class BBs) when they first came out. IRL, the WeeVee was fucking INSANE.
I wish we had a way to display all.the ship nat once. I'd love a Kure harbor with all my kido butai ships on display at once or like pearl harbor itself where we can display our stuff. Devs don't realize how much stuff like this will help
I'm using Sims with Cunningham and di revel and been having some decent games in this ship. Nothing spectacular, but the dispersion hasn't been terrible.
Ive noticed all my American battleships shells velocity has really decreased. All shells from have really been slowed fown since they nerfed the damage of the American Shells
Sir, I was wondering if you know anything about ,D. Alighieri B after the second update secondary stop working . Also the campaign stop working i stop going throughout the campaign and reaching your goal.
Sounds like a Texas at T6. Btw the USA didn't just refloat and modernize some of the sunk battleships at Pearl Harbor. Some of those old battle wagons participated in shelling Japanese islands. Sweat revenge.
I think im going to write a blurb, maybe not. Wargaming needs to give us more stats or specs. Like m/s. Max pen for each shell. If ships have better accuracy at different ranges. I think they bring ships in that they have a planned role, but don't tell us. I wouldn't have known about the Russian ship dispersion under 12km, Japanese over 12km. I think USN have better below 12km but no too close. If some CCs didn't tell us. Ive been grinding the Italian BB line. Im at T6. I swear you get below 8km,all of a sudden super accurate. Now that play style with their smoke screen would make sense. But wargaming doesn't tell us shit. I bring up Worle of Tanks sometimes, because that game has more specs listed more ribbons that we could use. Like asissted damage to an immobile engine. It has a tutorial to tell people how to angle and explain over match. Which works different than this game. I know this game i more "arcady" than WoT. I think if they added some of this, people could learn to play better and have more fun. Anyway since the weekend LETS GO BUFFALO!
Colorado and this need a buff to their accuracy. They also need to give it colorados shell speed. These just feel so floaty compared to colorado. But who knows, I might be tweaking. Update: I'm not enjoying this ship at all. It just flat out refuses to hit anything at all, and when it does, I'm getting terrible damage. So far tonight, I've only gotten a 70k damage game. The only time I've had a decent time is when I'm in a carrier game. But when it's time to shoot at another ship forget it. You won't hit anything at all. This thing found a way to miss a battle carrier ffs. Accuracy NEEDS a buff. Otherwise Colorado is better by far. I'm tired of seeing 1339 pop up after I shoot a broadside Venneto. This thing is making Tier 3 battleships feels accurate. It's a real shame because Colorado is my favorite ship and the entire Colorado class is my favorite battleship class personally.
The funny thing is the WV 44 historically had the most accurate gunnery systems ever made. It was an evolution of what Wisconsin got. In trials it was considered the most accurate system in the USN at the time. WG comes in and has diarrhea all over her legacy. Way to go legends team.
I played against one of those and the guy didn't even know what he was doing (kept dropping torps way too close) and still was top of his team with all the metals. He partly missed me with skip bombs and still did over 10k and doubled fired.
@l77scmaro2 Ya man I hear ya. I fitted my Iowa with AA all around, sure I can shred planes but those skip bombs eventually hit and cause way too much damage to out heal and still try to battle other boats.
how come no one seems to be playing this with a secondary build? i think it could use some more secondary range, it sits at 8.6 with my current build, they could extend it a little bit more, maybe not 10.6 km if they are scared a tier VI can challenge tier VIIs in secondary range but at least the same range the italians can get, around 9-9.6 km
@@SpartanElite43 seeing how the guns are still inaccurate as hell despite running a dispersion build i think it has more potential with the secondary build unless they buff the main guns before release
