- In this part of the mini documentary The Making of Like a Phoenix we record the drums and bass in the studio. We explain how drum recordings work, and a little bit about what microphones we used and where they were placed. You will hear Emlee record a take of the song.
Mona record the bass for the track and you will hear her play through the song as well.

1)emlee, do you play to a click track? 2) mona, when i mess up, i make the same face. hahaha 3) guernica, your speeded up vocals before the pitch correction are hilarious. 4) WE NEED MORE!!! lots and lots more
1) yes, we always record with a click track, but also stems so that emlee gets to vibe along with the song. For this song, Johan Randen made stems (that is - isolated guitar, isolated bass, isolated vocals) for emlee to have in her headphones. With stems she can choose the perfect mix between the instruments to record to. For example a little less guitar but more bass.
For the album, I prepared all the stems for the songs by recording demo guitars and bass at home. Guernica recorded her demo vocals at home also, so we did a lot of the pre production ourselves to keep down the costs by being effective.

3) it’s actually emlee that sings on the original demo. We later changed the key to a higher one for the song to suit guernica better. So what you hear is emlee pitched up 😊
4) you’re in it for a treat. Three more parts of like a Phoenix bts is coming up, and we filmed a lot while recording the full album ❤️
